One thing I love about this fight is that you can literally see Hayden pulling his punches, it was stated in an interview with both Ahsoka actresses that Dave Filoni had to get Hayden to hold back because he was going to fast paced for them, against Rosario and Arianna due to their lack of experience and technique with lightsaber combat and props, it shows how much skill and commitment Hayden has towards the character Anakin Skywalker and Starwars.
I could be mistaken but I swear I read that the speed of duel at the end of RoTS was real. Hayden and Ewan had practiced so much that they really were going that fast. Hayden really is that good with a lightsaber and I'm so happy he can be Anakin again.
@paulstehlin6130 yes, I believe this is accurate. In either the Phantom Menace or RotS, they had to slow down the footage because they were too quick

Also makes sense in canon for Anakin to pull his punches against Ahsoka since there’s no way she’d win
To be fair, he's been doing this for years so it makes sense he's slightly better at it
"you lack conviction" Always sends chills down my spine every-time I see this specific scene, Hayden does a really good job in portraying the dark-side of Anakin in this scene showing Ani's hatred and tenacity altogether in this beautiful masterpiece of a scene

Hayden is the best Duelist. The others seems slow and lackluster. Hes a natural. Ewan is great as well
No kidding. That footwork and stances, he still nailed it. Months of training with a metal stick decades ago, then do it again now with a plastic stick yet still nailed the combat scene. Something that Disney Star Wars has yet to show even in the box office: a well choreographed and narrative rich lightsaber fights

Asoka seems like she doesn’t know how to respond to the question because she sees her mentor is now full on Darkside. Her response is more out of fear than anything else and Vader can sense it

Seeing Ahsoka and Anakin in live-action gave me chills to my spine. Reminds me of Ahsoka fighting Darth vader in live-action from rebels.

Fantastic performance by Hayden. You can clearly see that he is testing his student. With Obi wan his blows were brutal, fast and heavy, but here you can see that he is much lighter, although it transpires that he is the most powerful being in the galaxy at this point.
Honestly a big part of it is that Rosario Dawson can't keep up with him. Disney's choreography doesn't hold a candle to George's work.

Love how when he turns to Vader , his fighting style changes to when he was in ROTS
the deaging, and costumed design surpassed my expectations, hayden stepped back into the role like it was nothing

Anakin was the best part of the Ahsoka series so far. To see him again in his prime is truly a gift for the fans. Hayden and Ewan made Star Wars what it is for me, and I am sure I am not the only fan who feels that way. I absolutely love how these scenes so perfectly capture how Anakin fights. The way he uses his lightsaber is iconic and glorious.
Yea and they highlighted the problem with Obi Wan series, Both Ewan and Hayden wanted a more epic feel to it but studio interference stopped them from doing that
agreed, hayden and ewan made star wars for me as well. He does stand out fighting. I think the best scene are darth vader hallway scene, luke hallway scene and then anakin ahoska scene in no particular order. Tho i lean ahoska cause he probably is my favorite character (plus i liked Hayden in Jumper also) and it cool to seem him controlling both sides of the force, let alone just to see him again.
Literally the ONLY reason I signed up for Disney + was for his scenes in context.

You know a scene’s becoming iconic when there’s still beimg recreated. The Ahsoka theme while she was killing Mandos and Duel of the Fates cutting in when she fought Anakin as Vader gave me chills.
The show hasn’t even been out a full 2 months. Now if scenes are still getting recreated 20 years later then those are the impressive ones
This whole sequence in a vacuum is fine, damn fine actually. In the context of the rest of this terrible show, it's pointless and accomplished nothing. It will eventually be forgotten like most of this Disney trash.
This is the power of music and good sound effects.
When watching the series I was hyped but watching THIS I went through millions of emotions...

Honestly Hayden has been the ONLY decent duelist in the Disney era... the rest of them look stiff, slow and untrained. Hayden just sets the bar

Not even that it’s 100% back ground choreography. So many of them have been great and have the backgrounds to do cool shit, but Disney loves there “cool pretty shots of lightsabers hitting each other” more then badass stunts and fight scenes.
I read that it’s because he practices his lightsaber skills during his free time for fun

You forget Maul VS Ahsoka who were portrayed by real people (including Ray Park).

3:05 that is the most badass entrance of all movies. Pure perfection.
Whoever was in charge of continuity did an amazing job. All the little things, like Anakin's saber style being a combination of his pre-Vader and post-Vader moves, the red lightsaber sounding different to the blue one, Ahsoka having the appropriate lightsabers during each flashback... it all adds up to awesomeness.
I used different variations of the themes to avoid copyright but to also add freshness to the themes, and these composers did that really well.
It is cut differently to avoid copyright as well. The original version is on my patreon.

This shows that nothing edited in would make this scene better. It was just plain horribly choreographed and the dialoged tried to push terribly thought out storyline.

A daily reminder that this is Hayden christensen at 42 years old . Vader in ROTJ was 45 . So this is a pretty accurate vader that never got beaten at mustafar ... Obi wan really did him dirty .
@@thomasjones4570 correct, no re-editing or re-scoring could save a poorly written and poorly choreographed sequence. I feel bad for Hayden Christensen, who you could clearly see was having to slowdown muscle memory from saber training back in the day, to fit this "sequence". And so it goes for Disney Clown Wars. RIP Star Wars December 2012.
This show may not have been great, but this was awesome. I do like how he changes to his red lightsaber to teach her new things. She already knew everything Jedi anakin could teach, but redeemed anakin, skilled in the power of the sith, has much more to teach her about the force than what the Jedi would teach
The lore behind the red lightsaber is when they turn to the dark side, it cause the crystal to bleed red. Never switch lightsaber, he just turn to the dark side.
@@elkitesaga999 Usually yes, but not with Anakin. He had to make a new one after Mustafar. Obi Wan took it. So it's a bit weird here because i think they just made anakin's saber red, even though it was with Obi Wan in episode 4.

I was thinking the same thing but Ahsokas movements look stiff.
The cgi ahsoka was on point though.
The choreography in the prequels was terrible minus Darth Maul.

I need to see more of baby gamora as ahsoka, she was so fucking excellent in that one scene during the siege of mandalore. Her speed her movement the way she spoke, she fucking nailed it.

The fact that you can see and feel Anakin/Hayden pulling his punches here is a testament to how serious he took his role. Disney needs to up their dueling cause the differences in the eras shows.

3:06 its scare to think how unstoppable Vader would've been if his limbs didnt get chopped off. This is Vader's heavy attacks boosted by Anakins acrobatics and speed.
We need a what-if saga. This Vader would have been a literal force of nature, one even Sidious feared.

I love how anakin was throwing his weight on her, to show how he never held back even on his student. Anakin was always a straightforward and tough mentor in the cartoon. I'm so glad Dave filoni was the one who wrote this. Dave made anakin so much more likeable and Wise, and it shows here. George wrote anakin well but alot of people had issues with how melodramatic and serious anakin was most of the time in the movies. Dave fixed most of those issues. The issue was never hayden. This episode made me want to see more of Hayden during the clone wars with Dave filoni's writing. The banter between young ahsoka and hayden as anakin is so good. There's chemistry there. Like an older brother trying to toughen up his younger sister.
Fun fact, Rosario is actually 2 years older than Hayden

This Thrawn’s entrance and the Ahsoka Morgan fight were my top 3 action moments. Though her fights with Baylan were cool too.
I am not a huge star wars fan, but this duel was great. The power and grace that Hayden shows is great. Beyond his performance in prequel movies.

Ahsoka (and this edit) has put me in the mood to see more of Anakin's character going forwards now that scenes like this show it's a possibility - not just have him as a tertiary character like force ghosts of Obi Wan or Yoda, but as a force like this - representing the duality, balance, and completeness of the Force - as a master for a future Jedi (or better a, a force sensitive with no faction allegiance). The new season has shown there is continuation of his character and he can still be a part of a future story. (And Hayden is pure awesome at this point.)

Rosario did such a good job, you can tell Ahsoka is wary of Anakin, but even the atrocities committed by Vader couldn't erase the love she has for Anakin. He's like an older brother to her. They are so similar in so many ways. He sets a perfect example to her to be wary of how easy it is to fall to the dark side, it seems Shes taken his lessons to heart.

Funny how slow ahsoka actor is vs Hayden in the speed of movements.
i love the quick shot of anakin and obi wan when he says 'my master' and then the shot of obi wan and qui gon when he says 'his master' that was great.
hayden pulls of this perfect look of 'this requires no effort' on his face in this scene, just like when he cut off dookus' arms and then caught the lightsaber, he had the same look in this scene.
This was the best Star Wars I’ve seen in years

The cocky, over powered Hayden/Anakin without the suit, just makes one imagine the "what ifs."
It is weird to be reminded that Ahsoka was a literal child all the way up through Order 66. You don't think about it watching Clone Wars, but seeing it in live action, it's a whole other thing.
Watching Anakin swordfight is so pleasing. You can see that he's a master, with his smooth moves and forms, unlike Rosario who's just tapping.

It’s a damn shame we haven’t gotten a newer series on Vader/anakin. Instead we get a side character series.
He is literally the most important character, his journeys and adventures while getting used to being Vader are truly brilliant stuff. His hunting of the remaining Jedi masters. His building of his lightsaber. The building of his castle on mustafar. Etc. so many frigging stories and Hayden deserves the limelight back, dude is by far the BEST duelist with a lightsaber.
The interspersed Rebels shots are the best part.
Anakin with a red lightsaber is something else. I wish he already had it in his duel against Obi Wan in EP3

As TSWG pointed out, they were not really fighting, they kept aiming for the other person's saber, instead of their bodies , if you were trying to kill someone. Didn't use any force moves at all

you can clearly see that Hayden is so comfortable and fluid with a lightsaber that they need to dumb him down a bit so that others can catch up with him. even young ahsoka actress is faster than Rosario.
crying because I wish we got more out of this show than we did. These were the incredible moments we never expected, but I wish the other parts of the story were this rich and dedicated.

After so many years in the role, Hayden absolutely nailed his portrayal of Anakin slash Vader in these scenes. Completely believable. The scenes are "just" a part of a TV show, but they close the circle of Vader's sins and redemption so much better than any of the movies. He was a bad guy, yet he was a good master, and he's still pushing ahsoka to be better .. in this case, to live.

I feel this should’ve happen also in kenobi. While I understand jumping to directly after episode 3, it was kinda weird that they ignored the events of the clone wars especially in the flashback sequence.
The dueling performance of the younger Ahsoka was actually really well done. Her acting chops were pretty on point with the animated character as well. Wish we could have seen more of it.
