- After 15 years, the community has more or less picked apart Dead Rising of all the hilarious and confusing "engrish" and mistakes it has to offer. Today, we discover some from much earlier versions of the game, which are a treasure chest of unfinished nonsense.

A lot of the spelling mistakes were caused by confusion between the L and R sounds. In Japanese they're both merged into the same sound, so Japanese speakers mix them up a lot when they're dealing with English text.

So basically Dead Rising’s early development stages were just a fever dream? Not gonna lie, I was put in fight or flight mode when I saw shadow Otis like he was a secret character in fnaf or some shit 😂
My guess for the treadmills is that they were used as debug/testing to teleport to different areas of the game quickly. And then they removed that functionality for the vegas demo.
Or maybe it was a slightly awkward way to communicate that the treadmills weren't working as treadmills yet. It didn't seem like they were rolling like they normally do in the video.
Or a copy and paste of the function from a teleportable interaction to be rescripted to it's proper function at a later date

Even though some of labels and signs had engrish or nonsensical words, it was there and made the game feel more alive and detailed. Most modern games would’ve probably added nothing or made it blurry so you can’t make out what it says.
3:44 here's your actual answer: this is probably because interaction points can be programmed to do different things. the interaction point of an item is programmed to attach it to franks hand and load any weapon data, for instance. before you pick it up, it's just an object. this is most likely on a hard-coded level, so to that extent, these treadmills' interaction points were probably programmed as "doors" as placeholders, since they hadn't programmed them for the special interaction of "start the treadmill" yet.
Great video STiPO an interesting thought I’ve always had was how did the vehicles and the prisoners get into leisure park? Since there’s no real entrance to get there not even in the maintenance tunnels. Maybe no real explanation but it’s hard to think about it 😂
I can only hope for the 20th anniversary of this game, Keiji Inafune comes out and explains how the hell these tunnels work LOL.
It’s also strange that military jeep appears early in the game since you see a similar one at the end of the game so maybe it’s just a idea they cooked up on the spot

I love this channel its like Fact Fiend. You're not meant to watch everything as it comes out, you forget about it. After a year you come back and binge waych everything. One of the best ways to build a channel in my opinion. The night you remember it, its a good time of new content.

Gotta agree with the game being as buggy as it used to, to what it eventually became, it is a rather well polished game for the time period it was made it and how quick it was done. Yeah some bugs are still there and the ai could've been better. But man it's always a joy to replay , again and again. Good stuff as always my dude.
4:17 that reminded me of something. apologies if I’ve already asked this on a previous video, but have you ever considered diving into that Eldritch abyss which is barely able to contain the half-life franchise’s cut content? I really enjoy your editing style and clarity in which you present things, and feel like your video style would mesh well with the content and stand out when compared to others who have made videos about it. If I recall correctly you’ve said in the past that you only wanted this channel to be dead rising stuff, but if you made it a separate channel I’d be subscribed to it in a heartbeat. I’d also understand if you didn’t want to though, valve’s recycling bin has consumed the souls of lesser mortals and it can take awhile to shift through all the information and borderline urban legends involving the topic.
A second, more general channel on stuff like that has interested me for a while, still considering it!

The Ice Sand makes some sense when you take into consideration that it's common to cut words short in Japan. There are sandwich products with the word "Sand" in the name.

Just guessing, but they may have intended to make working out a minigame that you loaded into (and then scrapped that idea very quickly) which would explain the treadmills have locked travel entities
You might not be interested BUT I'm pretty sure there was some sort of dead rising mobile at one point, well if there wasn't it brought me to the idea of emulators lord and behold There is a wii emulator that just so happens to run Dead rising Chop Still You Drop real well on your phone. I'm currently testing it for my niece (she loves this game) but the game runs 100% like OG Dead rising:CTYD on Android.
Case in point you should try it as something new. Every form of dead rising is interesting to me.
Dead Rising has a port on iPhone, but of course it's more like the Wii version of the game, just even worse lol

my guess with the treadmils is that using them was supposed to trigger a minigame loaded via loading screen originally, but mid development they must have opted to go with more realism with the "minigames" makes you wonder if that was supposed to apply to the spinning racks and the dishes in the food court, assuming i'm right anyway

Listen I need to know something and I can't find any information. There is a survivor, Gordon Stalworth from 'The Coward' when he dies, it plays a cutscene. It seems like a variety of parameters can change the cutscene. I had him die with a gun, and I got a cutscene of him using it to commit sewercide. I just seen another one of him getting 69 eaten, and the background locations match. Anyone know how many alternate cutscenes there are?
