Inspiring! I've recently bought a second hand seasprite 3.9 with a 15 hp on the back tiller drive. Love what you've done with your boat mate. Got some great tips off here
Great & informative video mate! I did a similar resto on an old alloy runabout 20 yrs ago using similar techniques (orbital sanding, rudimentary paint application, DIY floor & interior etc). The beauty with doing these old boats from scratch is that they're a blank canvas and you can customise the finished product to exactly match your needs. Wish I'd known your tip about only having to use the etch primer on new aluminium, as I etch-primed the entire bloody thing (20+ yr old weathered, scratched & coarse-sanded hull) and thus added several un-needed hours to the process it seems!
Thank you and I’m sure your boat came out awesome. It’s great fun restoring old boats. Abit challenging recording it at the same time but fun. Thanks 😊
With the r6 camera look at getting an md filter helps reduce the over exposure behind the thing your filming or look at fildling with the stteings a bit, love the work to this boat it inspires me for my one which is similar looking
@@lethosadventures I had the same boat 'Seasprite' unpainted with a 15HP Evinrude tiller for about 20 years. My brother then had it for another 10 years with a 25HP Johnston tiller. When it was sold the hull was still in perfect condition, never had any dents, holes or corrosion. Great little boat that provided many memorable fishing trips.
Hay bud I got them from eBay for about $8 for two here’s a link www.ebay.com.au/itm/2x-Medium-Car-Mesh-Storage-Holder-Adhesive-Net-Pocket-Phone-Bag-Card-Black-Truck-/114890668078?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l6249&mkrid=705-154756-20017-0
Hey mate. So after two years how's the paint holding up? Looks great in the video. Reason I ask is that I recently got a '99 4.3m AllyCraft Intruder with a 40hp mercury that I'm slowly doing up. I've just finished gettiing it right mechanically and electrically and I'd really like to do the same as you did with the paint... but I don't want to pay someone else to do it if it's the sort of thing I can do myself.
Hay bud I have sold the boat but when I had it the white paint at the bottom chipped a bit but not much. The reason it did is because I used a white one bit paint to do the bottom and not a two bit (with hardner). If I did it again I’d do the same thing. The reason I used a one bit paint is so if the bottom got damaged the paint will be easier to remove to weld the bottom. Hope this helps bud good luck ✌️
Great job mate! Just picked up the identical boat and will be doing something similar! Question.. have you taken it out on the ocean? Looking to only go out say 500m-1km on calm waters obviously.. can they handle it?
Hay bud thanks for the message. I haven’t taken it to sea yet we normally on the rivers. Im not sure how it will handle on the bar bit I know people and have seen people take smaller boats out to. I have has some close calls in this boat when the weather turn bad. It does start to fell a bit small in bad weather and big waves
Hey Man, Great Video! I have exactly the same boat and was planning something pretty similar (love your idea of the hatch in the floor... may steal that). Just wondering which Bimini and Rocket launcher you purchased that fit?
Hi thanks for the awesome feedback really appreciate it. I use a 3 bow Bimini. I purchased it from eBay here’s a link www.ebay.com.au/itm/3-Bow-1-7m-1-9m-Black-Boat-Bimini-Top-Canopy-Cover-w-Rear-Poles-Sock-/191510454114?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l6249&mkrid=705-154756-20017-0 I’m planning on installing another hatch near the back seat aswell ✌️
Same size tinny as mine, but it looks a lot bigger due to the forward steer I think. Mine only has a 15 on it though, I often though it should have a 30 on it. Have you had any experience painting galvanized steel? I made a box from gal steel, used etch primer, then top coat. Within a month or so it was flaking off.
Hay bud before I painted the boat I wiped it down with a bottle of turpentine to make sure there was no Greece on the boat. On the bottom of my first boat seams to be flaking abit now but not much. Next time I paint the bottom of the hull I’ll use etch primer first it’s a bit more expensive but it’s will last way longer thanks bro 😎
@@Kdjoao that’s cool aslong as the outboard is good along with the trailer, then you can redo the boat how ever you want it to look. Fix holes ect… Have fun bud tri make a video of you restoring it and send it to us so we can have a look 👀
