This build is awesome! I grew up fishing out of my old man’s Quintrex Fishmaster, the cabin version of this exact boat. I remember the brown colour pallet well. You could digitally add my dad into all the old footage and you’d never notice anything out of place😅
Hi Rod, big fan.
Anyway, my first boat was a Fishmaster, in the same colour scheme.
A great boat with a massive deck space for the size.
Sometimes wish I still had it.
Great boat great video well done Cap
@mightycarmods, would love to see your boat on your second channel sometime, didn't expect to see you here.
3 minutes in and this is one of the best intros to a YT vid I’ve ever watched. Well done 👏
Thats one of the best videos in the. captain series , awesome work resurecting the Quintrex , but I loved the old footage of your old man hunting goats and shooting some revolvers as well as camping and fishing. They were the days when Australia was free and people worked hard but were left to enjoy their time away with relatives and mates. . Im old and fucked now but I reminisce about those days. 👍
The Quinny Fish Finder was my Dream boat as a young 15-18 year old. Im now 54 and still hold them in my heart. Well done Salty Mob on bringing one back from the brink of extinction Lads.
I was shocked to see my truck and boat 😂👌 cheers guys great build 👍
I would’ve drilled through transom and filled holes . I refloored a 4.6m quiny not long ago by cutting marine ply to fit. Couple coats thick paint . Beach sand flicked over 2nd coat when wet then a third coat to finish it. Came up really good and is a cheaper option for most of us watching $. Great vid mate. Great finished product 👍🏼
Bloody beautiful guys Love those old Quinnies. They are still the best. Enjoy.
Good too see an episode with less "wank" factor. I get over 7m plate boats and 200k rebuilds
That early quintrex flared bow is a beautiful ride in rough weather.
Absolute dream boat
What a superb build. Love when there's some nostalgia and meaning to a restoration build and this is a beauty!
That was fkn awesome. made me reminisce.. my first few trips with the oldman,...jumpin pin down the goldy with our green savage envoy with a mercury tower of power! We have had a Quinny fish finder b4 too, really old though and ur guy is right, Dad had plenty of Alloy tinnies and once they crack at the seams no matter who tries to weld them, forget about it! ... So many memories...
Epic - I did an old Clark abalone so this reminded me of that. Put a CMC tilt trim with the old Johno 2 stroke. It was a beast
What a great video…… no more to say.
Loved it from start to finish.
This is my favourite video so far, loved it! Well done boys.
Noice mate! Been tryna get the wifey to sign off on this free boat 200kms away and retromodding it.
Your video makes me wanna do it sooooooo bad!
Great video mate, I just picked up a 50 year old sportsman.
Accidentally came across your video ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC ya done the Ol Man proud 😇. I’m a bit OCD and am proud of it.Mate ya dad would be so honoured to have a son like you someone who appreciated the blessings you received from your memorable childhood😊.Appreciation like yours puts a lump in my throat.✌️👍
What a video,,just love the simplicity of the video,,totally entertaining also love the restoration...also i have an old 435 fishabout Quintrex box gunnel sides 115 chrysler and a reinforced transom..im a welder by trade
Loving these older builds.
Love that I found this video ,,,I'm about to buy an old dehavilin and centre console it👍
What a cool thing! That steering system is nice but is very pricey!
thank you for producing this fantastic video
Gents!
What an outstanding video and story!
Great videography as always!
Awesome build! Love the sentiment!
Haha great work lads I love it! 🤣🤙😎
Dream boat hope to have one similar
Epic mate 👌
I feel the sentimental side too, they are truly awesome boats the old Quintrex.
I’ve got an old fishnipper (because old Quintrex are better) in the same colors and would not change a thing.
Thanks for putting that video together, perfect 👍👌
Cheers 🍻
Aussie Boat Guy 😎
Awesome story an build.. our Neighbour worked for Quintrex an got my Dad a deal on the first Cruiseabout .. adding the glass deck to alloy hull was an engineering first ! Had a 70 evinrude on the back an paper Furuno as well .. all sat on a Girlock tilt trailer ..an our Kingswood 202 up the front.. Dad traded in 2002 for a Legend still runs a Yam 2 banger!
outstanding.. great story and well narrated
Up the two stoke! Awesome video 🤘
This is so awesome. Love the nostalgia attached to the project and how well it turned out. Great video
Back when you could enjoy yourself
Pretty sweet. My dad still has his quinnie parked up in the garage in rough shape
Love the old Quintrex can’t beat em. Wow your old man knew how to have fun. No way would you get away with the guns this day and age.
Incredible.
Great job 👏 👍
Now I think I need to find some aviators!!
What a retro ripper. My Dad had virtually the same thing 2 decades later in a Quintrex Coast Raider, still with a paper sounder (initially, then followed by a eagle digital sounder). I would love to do the same if i found it again.
Awesome build! Boat is layer out great!
Crazy good little boat👍👍👍
Going through a budget refit for a 1980 4.5M Quintrex Lazeabout. The hull is in amazing condition. We got rid of the runabout fibreglass insert. Next was weld up the old transducer and speedo mount. My mate had a tiller 50HP Tohatsu so we cut down the motor well for tiller steer. That is about where we stand.
About the heavy transom plate. That is factory!
Great size boat had a centre Console Only Note is you should have a lanyard for the kill switch around wrist I got saved by mine
Very cool. Also run a 2 stroke tohatsu, albeit a 25hp. Hasn't missed a beat... beast.
I love these videos
Very cool 👍🏻
The only thing better than serenity is a 2 stroke at full throttle
Man you guys have got way to much money, time on your hands & obliging friends😝😝😝😝
Love it
To funny the ply marine or not basically all timber soaks in water from the edge or end grains....!
99% of the time that is were the water starts to seep soak draw in.!
Sealing the top of the ply can be done with just multiple coats of timber preserver and flowcoat.!
Fibreglass is only really good for strength top/bottom if you do not fibreglass the edges all of them perfectly...!
Great show great tradies love all ya work
Eden is a great place to fish
My wife has always loved me for being a 2 stroke man 😂
Great boat 👍. I have one of those but mine has a half cab and a pod the paint looks like shit and I mean it looks crap but the boat is very good condition with some fresh paint my boat should look like a new one
Very cool 😎
At 1:34 - that was a MASSIVE KG Whiting!!!!
Great build. I retrofitted a no feedback mechanical helm in my boat, much better than a standard teleflex helm. Many of the benefits of a hydraulic without the cost and effort of the hydraulic install. Probably not as nice as a proper hydraulic setup, but for not much $$ and an hour of work, I definitely would recommend it to anyone with a teleflex helm.
Excellent video loved every bit of it and I will be checking out your other videos.
I'm just wondering if you have done a build where you have had to do some bent repairs and new paint.
Was that uncle chop chop there ?
Come on man! Now the cost of these is gonna get pumped 🤣Go the quinnies
Nice build! Did you guys end up finding the paint code for these old quinnies?
Fantastic video...is it possible you can scan the old brochure front and back please ??
which part of the coast was this filmed? looks amazing
Looks like two fold bay in the far south coast. Where he's sitting and talking to the camera looks like the kiah/towamba river mouth.
Should do a project boat shoot out
Did you glass or seal both sides of the floor boards?
Or did you leave one side open?
Has anyone tracked down the deck armour diy kits talked about. Their website says no to fitting it yourself
Beers, 4wds, revolvers, rifles and a tinny.
Simple times, youd be on the front page of the news these days for less 😂
Almost unthinkable now isn't it?
There was one on facebook marketplace yesterday I wasn’t quick enough 😭😭😭
Did you do anything to the underside of the ply?
Can you tell us more about that nautiglass we don't know about!
Lol igloo playmates cooler wish I had videos of my dad from 80s 90s
anyone know where to get the deck armour kit from
Heat the sika from the inside comes away easy heat gun
I have a ffish raider that ive customised the shit out of and i love it why didnt you paint the inside while you gutted it i did and it made it so quiet also carpet marine on the sides no slap no noise same floor 17mill ply centre walk through cab one of the best sea boats ive iwned 😊😊😊
12mm ali transom doubler?!
Are we going to talk about the state of the factory floor ......... ha wow
Back when quintrex was made by tradesmen that took pride in their work unlike all the ice addicts that work for telwater now.
No fat guys back then.
Wait wait wait...u telling me there was no pin holes in the bottom of the boat?? This thing ever see saltwater in 30plus years..
The algorithm fucked up recommending this video to me, I was watching aboriginal street fights then this played. oh well im going to buy a tinny now. And not the vb kind
Nice build but maybe loose your gutter mouth language especially when the kids love watching.
im sure they'd say f*** off
What the f*** didn't you pay for in this restoration video.
How is this your project boat when you just out source all of the work. The only work you guys did was move the boat from A to B and C etc. Don't say you're rebuilding a boat if you do none of the work and only rely on others. Stick to making short films.
