for Sonic Mania without spindashing, I did forget about the lava reef elevators. my bad, I don't think theres any way to avoid those entirely so it probably isn't possible
for the no dpad one, using a keyboard or control stick still counts. probably could have come up with a better name.

Btw, some interesting info: You can beat Spyro The Dragon: Reignited Trilogy without using the moving joystick and D-Pad.
You can use the charge button, the look button and roll buttons and jumping and gliding to help you move around.

It is based off the function of the button. Sonic Mania operates off of digital input with acceleration over time. The challenge is to complete the game without directional input.

6:14 Yes it is possible. Every version of the game doesn’t need the dpad. On the consoles, just use the control stick, and the PC version doesn’t even have a Dpad!

I’m actually in the process of trying to beat sonic mania without spindashing, problems with the run is the entirety of hydrocity zone and lava reef zone but I’m going to try to find different paths for those zones

Generations was my first 3D sonic game. I didn't know boost was a thing for quite a while. I did plenty of homing attacks as air boosts.
I actually made a challenge for myself once for Sonic Forces, where Sonic couldn’t boost, homing attack, double jump, stomp, or slide, the avatar couldn’t use wispons, and Classic Sonic couldn’t use the spin dash or drop dash, it actually got pretty far, but the final boss couldn’t be beaten because you’re required to boost to get near Eggman.
And that day my soul was shattered from failure-
But seriously, I was surprised I got so far into the game, only finding that the final boss is where it stopped the challenge.

I think theres like 1 or 2 parts in the last zone or second to last zone that make you trick forwards to break open a wall

For the D-pad route- its 100% possible on green hill 1 and 2. Chemical plant forces you to take a loop, which has tricky timing but can be passed through, however I never got past chemical plant because i'd spend all my time on the loops. Possible, but idk past chemical plant

I don't count anything out of the player's control against a challenge. If there's a move normally in the players control then one small section of gameplay where it automatically triggers it no matter what you do or if it's in a cutscene it doesn't count

id like to see sonic spinball challenges, no right/left would prevent you from moving in midair, turning it into normal pinball, and minimum score would be a diabolically hard, but very entertaining challenge
I remember making my own challenge during all of this, can you beat sonic 3K or other sonic game without running for more than 10 seconds?
These challenge videos are still classics in my eyes, shame they ended but that’s okay.
Using Tails flying ability and your partner you can get the Lava Reef Zone without spin dashing but without you partner it is impossible.
ANY Sonic game, but someone tells you what button presses to do, and you're blindfolded. Done, an easy way to go insane
I reckon the Mania No Spindashing is impossible because in Lava Reef there's the platforms you need to spindash on but I didn't look into it for too long.
In the final boss of Sonic Generations, if you go to the controls section of the pause menu, it lists actions that you can only do in this boss. In it, it mentions that X is the boost button.
This means Sonic Generations without boosting is not possible.
When I was like 9 years old I played sonic 2 for the first time, and even though I’d never even seen a sonic game that’s not secret rings, I just instinctively knew how to spin dash? I don’t know a lot about game design, but I’d love to know what exactly sonic 2 did that subconsciously teach me the spin dash.
To beat shadow without boosting isnt too hard. Just did it. What you have to do first is be within distance of shadow until he comes close to the purple thingy and then you pass him the A.I will take about 4 seconds to start boosting. If don e correctly he should hit you with the boost exactly after the animation of you getting it finishes
for the spindash challenge it may actually be impossible cause of the obstacles in lava reef which you have to spindash to use i dont know if these are possible to skip but yeah
My take on the "Without touching the ground" challenge is that you can touch anything BUT the stage itself. Like being able to land on Item Boxes or Enemies or Springs
Beneficial boss fight review get the power up and you start boosting even though you're not clicking it it doesn't count as boosting
I can confirm Green Hill 1 is Possible without a Single directional input, as I have in fact, done it using a fair bit of trial and error
Funny thing about spindash.
My first Sonic game was S&K. And when I first time play this I stuck on the first act of Mushroom Hill Zone, with that leaf chain trap or what is that.
My dad accidently found the spindash move. Without him I can't beat the first level I guess XD

Ok, here’s a challenge relating to the Sonic Advance 2/3 stuff...
How much of Sonic Advance 2/3 can be beaten without right left, starting from the beginning of each character’s level set (i.e. Sonic might only be able to clear 2 before a right press is needed but Knuckles can clear every Knuckles stage)
i did try to do a boostless run of generation and i think the only required boost is rooftop run at the falling ceiling and maybe the final boss when going to it I also forgot about shadow so yeah him too
Final edit: rooftop run is possible i just forgot about d-boosting

Tails can carry sonic without sonic jumping and can damage bosses. The only problem I see is the entirety of Death Egg and Doomsday, but I think everything before is possible.

Beat a sonic generation only clearing the stage with super sonic (ones you reach 50 rings you had to turn super sonic and if you run out of rings due to your super form, you failed the challenge)
I remember playing sonic 2 but I didn't know what spindash was and I had to learn it in sonic 4 episode 2 using the monitors that help you learn the game
Until I came across the help menu

I actually didn't know about the spindash for like 6 months
It’s not possible because of press garden zone, it forces you to do a spindash and there isn’t enough rings to turn into super sonic

When i first played sonic 1 mobile (yep i grew with the mobile version) i accidently spin dashed in green hills 3
Now here's a challenge that you can try.
Sonic Generations Modern Sonic, but only using a Sonic Adventure styled move set.
Rules are:
Allowed moves: running, jumping, homing attacking, air dashing, light speed dashing, "SPIN DASHING" (you only PRESS the boost button and not HOLD it down), and wall jumping.
Not allowed moves: sliding, drifting, quick stepping, stomping, switching rails normally (you are allowed to physically jump to them, like in Sonic 06), performing tricks and continuous boosting.
If a not allowed move is performed by the game, and not through user input (like the counterattack boost in the Shadow boss fight), that is still allowed.
Mandatory level gimmicks like wisps, and snow boarding, etc. are permitted.
Levels/challenges to clear: All Modern Sonic stages, All Modern Sonic boss/rival battles on Hard mode (Time Eater excluded), Speed Highway Challenge 1 and 4 and Seaside Hill Challenge 5.

I wonder how long this trend is going to go to take on these video game challenges. I wish I had joined in on the action. My channel used to almost be entirely gaming footage so it would have been a good idea to try this. maybe could have helped my channel for once I reach partnership. I have a bad tendency to try trends way too late like my steamed hams parody video.
I think that the trend died a while ago but that doesnt mean they dont still get views. If you have a good idea for one and think it would be fun I'd say go for it, it could turn out to be successful

Angel Island Zone in Sonic 3 (yes, _both_ Acts) can be beaten with _just_ the jump button. As in, no climbing up or down with Knuckles either. _One_ jump button, both acts.
