    It's 2023 and I'm looking at this '17 as a next upgrade from my '15 200xcw. The new engine is smoother, and best of all is carbureted! I know the newer FI bikes are pretty solid, but nothing more bulletproof than a carburetor (which I will most definitely be switching to a SmartCarb , no more fueling issues ever!). I only wish they had kept the plastics from the '15, so much cooler.
    This '17 may be my off-road unicorn

    So I FINALLY got to ride my 17 xc after looking at it in the garage for a month. I rode two 40 min loops in very tight north east single track. The bike was TONS of fun! Coming off of a 250f with a rekluse on to a 300 2t (my first) Is a big learning curve, but I managed it. I'll definitely be turning out the clickers and I'll mess with the jetting a little more after its fully broken in. Overall very happy!

    good job on the comparison!! keep them coming. I'm on the verge of getting a 17 300xc. currently I have a 13' 300xc which isn't much different than the 15. do you know if the vforce 4 reed cage works with the new mikuni? trying to see what a can transfer to the new bike from my 13. I know the slavens high compression cylinder head won't fit. things like bpr sub mount, scotts stabilizer and SX cdi will fit so those are going on the new 300. just not sure about the vforce 4.

    Just a quick note, my 17 KTM 300xc is about 4.5 inches longer then my 2012 KX450f from wheel to wheel. The KTM feels so nimble and steady. I also flipped the bar mounts around and it really opened up the cock pit for me. AWESOME bike. thanks again for the video.

    Kyle, great videos. Very professional and informative.
    I would like to know more about your opinion on the new AER forks.
    I had my 2015 4CS forks tuned by KTM factory suspension services but they are still too harsh in the tight and technical stuff.
    I am thinking about buying the 2017 XC and the main reason would be; to get the new suspension.
    Is it worth it?
    Thanks in advance.

    • @dirtbikesam
      @dirtbikesam 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the AER forks are better than the 4CS. With that said the 2017's whole package is better than the 15'

    I'm picking up a 2008 xc 300 in a week. I was going to go with the yz250x, but that means I'd have to finance some of it whereas the ktm I can buy with cash. I'm 40 and started riding 2 seasons ago and have been riding a 2013 ttr 230 on our single tracks. So anything is going to be light years ahead of the ttr as I've pushed that bike as far as it'll go. What I did like about the ttr is it's seriously a little trail tractor.

    Can we pressure you into a "subscribers ride" lottery? :) 5 lucky riders that are subscribed (plus the originator of this awesome idea...) win a chance to ride with you and your friends for a weekend? Winners have to supply their own airfare/bike and lodging....and video camera so that we can see that you actually wreck sometimes....haha! I am sticking with this idea as I currently have no plans next summer except to the west coast to ride again. I would love to hit Moab, or Four corners area in Colorado, perhaps even Idaho...Epic terrain.
    Minimum requirements....Riders must be qualified by being able to ride in second and third gear while wrecking (and post video proof of that ability), be able to wake up after 9am EST time and scrounge enough change from the couch to poison themselves with taco Bell daily.
    Ok, we have established that I qualify. Who is next?

      I watched it, love the electric MX movement. Surprised this did not happen sooner. Can you imagine if Hanson was on an electric bike and how far they would have gone? Not that I am knocking Tim, he did AMAZING for being retired for 3 years. Just impressed overall, although I thought this year straight rhythm was easier than the previous and also missing the 2-time defending champ.....

    Hi Kyle, Can you comment on the XC forks compared with the EXC forks on the 2015 (Closed Vs Open Fork). Do you prefer one over the other and on your personal bikes do you have your suspension done by a professional?

    • @DirtBikeChannel
      @DirtBikeChannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The XC-W (EXC) forks are simply softer than the forks on the XC line. Depends on the type of riding you do most as to which is better. I have only had my suspension done by a pro once and it was pretty much a waste of hard earned dollars from my vantage point. Others would argue that point to the death though...

    great video as usual! now does the 300 xc have more power than the 300 exc? or is it just different gearbox setup? cheers in advance

    • @DirtBikeChannel
      @DirtBikeChannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gearing and suspension are the major differences. The ignition map is slight different on the XC, but not really enough to make a major difference.

    Hey kyle, I'm from east Tennessee and I have been looking for a bike for a while, just waiting for my 4 wheeler to sell. Right now I have a KTM 250sx 2001 just to see if the two-stroke was what I wanted and its fun but it vibrates a lot so I was wondering if the 2017 300 was smooth or not. I also have two friends who just got new ktm 350 xcf-w's and they ride like a dream. I do alot of trail riding on tight trails with rocks and also do open stuff in fields and singletrack so im just trying to decide on which one to get a ktm 300 xc or ktm 350xcf both 2017 models.

    If you have a leaking front seal on the new air forks does that mean the bike is unrideable, since there's no spring to support the weight or am I misunderstanding how it works.

    the fork angle on the 17s is different from the 15 (less offset), so u saying it feels longer is true ,the 17 has longer wheel base.

    • @2wheels4life27
      @2wheels4life27 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      im not 100% sure lol but im pretty sure the triple clamp offset was 20 mm on the 15 , i know for a fact the 17s have a 22 mm cause i have one.

    • @2wheels4life27
      @2wheels4life27 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      when u guys are both beside eachother the 15s forks deff look more straight up and down, the 17s deff look more angled which would give it longer wheel base , 17s wheelbase is 1495 mm and the 15 is 1482 mm so the 17 is 13 mm longer wheelbase which isnt alot but im sure u can notice it.

    Where does the 2016 fall in comparison? Is it closer to the 2015 or 2017? Just asking cause I just bought one. Definitely would have loved to have the AER front fork, not a huge fan of the 4cs so far, but I just put the dal soggio kit in and am about to start testing it :) I love everything else about the bike. Also has RK tech head, fmf fatty pipe, q stealth muffler, and map switch, throttle hits hard but I came from old school YZ so it wasn't anything I couldn't handle :)

    • @Fmontes
      @Fmontes 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey - I know the comment you left is old, but I just bought a 2016 300xc with 38.2 hours on it and just starting to get familiar with it. From what I know the '15-'16's are the same. Do you/did you enjoy yours?

    • @dainwright1573
      @dainwright1573 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Fmontes Yes! I still have that bike, I love it, my e start doesn't work but it's so easy to kick the 2 strokes. I'm going to do some mods to the e start at some point. Absolutely love the bike otherwise, I've rebuilt the front forks twice since I bought the bike. I think it depends on the riding but I really get that bike dirty some times and the seals blow, then it's time to rebuild. Definitely invest in a seal scraper if you do anything dirty. Rebuilding the 4CS isn't hard, the tools and seals are relatively inexpensive. I know people complain about 2 strokes being finicky but this thing just runs hard all the time. Seems like the only thing you gotta do is mix gas and make sure the air filter is clean and it'll run. I've put something like 150hrs on the bike now and I've only fowled 2 plugs. And I do all kinds of different elevation and the bike requires almost no tuning. I should also note that the bike has had a lot of work done to it before I got my hands on it.

    • @Fmontes
      @Fmontes 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dainwright1573 Awesome - thanks for the reply! Everything is still relatively new on my bike (even on the first set of tires). My starter only seems to work when the bike is warm. Otherwise, it starts on the 1st kick 98% of the time.
      Thanks again!

    So i Been away from dirt bikes for a while. But when I stopped around 2008 the 2 stroke was just about dead. I had a yz250 back in the day, and it couldnt compete with the 450's. What are somethings that make this 300 a good bike? Is KTM the only company that is investing in the 2stroke line? Do they compete with the 450 now?

    • @DirtBikeChannel

      For the type of riding I do, they never stopped competing with the 450s. It's more about the rider than than the bike anyway.

    Sounds like the difference is completely mental and all about personal comfort and preference based on how you like to ride and what your used too. Sam is just used to his bike and naturally will look for those same characteristics in other bikes. Clearly the bikes have some handling differences though.

      The 2017 has some MAJOR improvements over the older models. I ride enough of these bikes to know. The 2015 and 2016 are great bikes, but the 2017 has raised the bar again IMO.

      Yeah? I have a 2014 Husaberg te300 it only got 14hours, i haven't hade time to ride to much work, but the problem is that the 2stroke takes to much fuel so my friends have 4strokes can run the dubbel time to me.. So often we have to turn around and go home because my tank is empty. And i have 11liters and they got only 9liters, they have Husabergs and Beta 4strokes. So i think off getin a 350 or 450 it would have to work at motocross to and we don't get the Xc`s and Fx over here, so its a Exc or Fe and mod the suspension.
