    The 2017 KTM 300 XC is the most well rounded dirt bike I have ever ridden. Anyone who rides this bike comes away with a smile on their face. The 2015 300 XC was previously the bike that I thought was the best overall dirt bike in the world for the type of riding that I like to do, which is a little bit of everything. I now believe that the 2017 is better in nearly every way. It’s not worlds better, but it’s enough better that it sort of makes the 2015 feel a bit obsolete.
    I’m not telling all my viewers out there do drop their older bikes and spring right away on the new model, but I am saying this is an improvement. The motor still has the low end grunt we’ve come to love. Sure, it might be a touch softer on the bottom since it’s spinning a counter balance shaft, but if anything, I think that simply makes the power more linear and easier to control. Too much is being made about the perceived problems with this motor, carb, and so on. I think it’s great. My advice is just ride it, get used to it, and love it.
    The Mikuni carb is fine. The airbox is fine. The power delivery is fantastic. The AER forks are really, really good. I love them so far. You don’t need to make a bunch of mods on this thing. Get it jetted for your altitude and then just have a ball. There are always going to be guys looking for things to pick on, but IMO, KTM took something that was extremely good and they improved it in many ways.
    Special thanks to my $10/month patrons!

      +Genesis Sports Nutrition it would suck to buy a 250x then have Yamaha come out with a real woods weapon with e start, bigger tank etc

    I think the greatest compliment you gave to the new bike, was that you didn't say much! By that I mean it seemed to just put you in the zone and you were just busy enjoying the ride. Sometimes less is more.

    The fact that they switched to a 38mm carb from 36mm may be one of the reasons the bike has less snap down low

    Great video - were you able to determine why the 2017 feels like it has more cockpit room?

  • @sk2283
    @sk2283 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    well done Kyle, very good review especially from a 'real riding' view, the suspension being able to let you just ride & not worry or second guess what it's going to do along with the improved bounce/reaction sounds like the suspension is very good out of the box.
    The engine also being smoother is a major improvement on the 300 - I've had a 2013 300XC and now have a 2014 250XC - my next bike is going to be a '17 300 :-)
    Just wondered if you felt it starved at the top end as some have said ? is the airbox restricting in your opinion - does it rev out on the pipe ok ?
    keep it up !

    • @DirtBikeChannel
      @DirtBikeChannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't think it needed any of that IMO. This sucker was running even better than the 2015 300 XC every time we rode them back to back. I think that airbox stuff is just hype IMO (I can't say about the husky's since I don't own one). And I'm testing them back to back with the older models.

    The 8-9 thousand dollar question is.....would you buy this 300 XC over the YZ250X? Great videos by the way. I recognize some of the trails. Keep up the good work.

    • @DirtBikeChannel
      @DirtBikeChannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would certainly. By the time you put a 300 kit on the 250X and hydro clutch, and desert tank, it would be more money than the KTM. That doesn't even take e start into account!

    I have both bikes and i ride about 600h in year so my experience for the mikuni its bad because it needs more gas than kehin and it works bad on the trial tracks kehin is much better, i have tried also jd jetting but nothing helps, just the kehin on the ktm. I had also an tpi ktm 2018 it’s also not better than the kehin carburetor for hard enduro and slippery terrain

    • @DirtBikeChannel
      @DirtBikeChannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No, I love the gearing on the XC better at this point. I'm going to try a Beta 300 next year which is basically a "red" XC-W from what I can tell.

    • @orangeblooded4005
      @orangeblooded4005 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The reason I went back to the W is in the last couple years we've been on extremely rocky and technical terrain and I find myself getting hung up on the linkage even with the fast way guard on it

    great video once again. just wondering if you have done any mods to the air box. I drilled some holes in my 17 and cut a little off the air box cover. it really helped the low end and seems to breath a lot better. I didn't do anything major just a little bit more air flow.

    Hey Kyle. Another great video! Wanted to get your opinion real quick. I have been planning to go for the 17 this year. But recently a 15 300xcw 6 days came up for 1k less then a new bike. It has 80 hours but has the stillwell performance "A kit"on it. Would that suspension be worth trading everything the 17 comes with? Thank you!

    • @DirtBikeChannel
      @DirtBikeChannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'd do the 2017 over a 2015 no matter what the suspension set up is. That 2015 should be like 2500-3000 less than the 2017. Easy choice there. I wouldn't pay a dime more for someones suspension tuning.

    I am really into technical enduro-style single track and I am wondering if a 300 would be right for tight and technical as opposed to a 250 2-stroke or a four stoke?

    • @DirtBikeChannel

      There isn't a better bike for technical single track than the 300 two stroke.

    Is it possible 17 felt better due to the bearings and seals being brand new? I know those items can make a huge difference.

    • @DirtBikeChannel

      No, that isn't it. Multiple riders wouldn't be grinning ear to ear over new bearings.

    At that pace, how far ahead are you looking down the trail, too often I have a tendency to look 5 to 10 feet in front of the front wheel and become too concerned with smaller features that I shouldn't be concerned with.

    • @DirtBikeChannel
      @DirtBikeChannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I try to look 30-60 feet out when possible. Sometimes you have to "watch" an obstacle all the way in, but I try not to do that. I have a video talking about keeping your head up in my feed.

      i just get back from my local KTM dealer, and sat on the 2017 300 XC, man, this bike feel light like a mountain bike under me, looks much better in real than on the pictures we can find on the net. The seat is verry firm! looks like an awesome motorcycle! Nice it came stock with this small orange hours meter, verry sleek. It is me or the KTM bikes vs Yamaha offer more room to work on it? More accessible

      cadwarrior yeah, not a fan at all of the 17 graphics or plastics. 08-10 was the golden years to me though, for plastics styling. 17 xcw looks better than xc and SX though. The black helps a lot.
