Love my 2022 Beta 300rr. Oil injection and I didn’t need to do anything to make it Colorado street legal. I put on a FMF muffler/ spark arrester, Fastway pegs, Kobel link, skid plate, disk gaurds, Seat concepts wide seat, Bark Busters and mounts. Having grown up on 2 strokes with several chases on the street under my belt in the late 90s it is truly and awesome feeling ripping past law enforcement on a fully legal 2 stroke
My advice is to buy what your riding buddies have, and buy from a manufacturer that has spare parts in your area that are usually available. That way you can all build up a spare parts inventory and share it amongst each other when stuff breaks. What they didnt talk about is seat heights. If you are short the Beta has a lower seat height. They also didnt mention the KTM group suspension is subpar out of the box and will cost money to get it working properly.
I'd say buy what you can afford and what you're comfortable with. Do your research and get the right bike for you. KTM suspension has gotten much better over the years, but is still prefer kyb. Most riders will revalve and spring to suit anyhow so I wouldn't give the edge to anyone.
Yup, I’ll take the beta. My 2016 300 race has never overheated and the engine had tons of power but is very usable. The map switch does clearly help in slick conditions

I've raced my bike a lot over the last year, and never felt any fault from BrakTec components. It is a real world non-issue. No fading, good modulation. These brakes aren't inferior to anything.
I have the 21 GasGas. Which is practically the same as the 23! In my riding group I get to ride the Husky and KTM variants often and had 8 KTM 300's myself. KTM gets a lot of flack for selling 3 different bikes that are basically the same thing. In practice they all feel very different. I chose the GG because the ergonomics fit me best and its the most playful to ride with a perky motor. Complaints on the brakes are valid, they could be better. At the end of the day I bought the one that suited my riding best and was the best fit out the box. My thinking on the less premium bits was I upgrade suspension on every bike I buy and spend money on bike protection regardless. So why not buy the cheapest one? Looks mint too...something about red.

I just bought a new 2023 Beta 300RR. I’ve had four WR 450’s over the last seven years and still have one. I was looking for something lighter and two stroke. I agonized over buying the YZ 250x for some time as it was thousands of $ cheaper but…no six speed, no starter, no battery, no counterbalancer etc, etc. The Japanese manufacturers are, or should I say, DID, miss out on the HUGE enduro market. Unfortunately it’s - 29 here in Kingston Ontario this February morning making riding season seem very far away at the moment.
All great bikes - they got it right, KTM is the best IMO. The other bikes are right there by an inch...and better than KTM for other riders. We are lucky to have such great two strokes when environmentalists are trying to kill them all.
All this KTM but I wonder if these other companies would have pushed the 2t technology like KTM did for several years when every other brand was walking away from them. Should be grateful for the persistentcy of KTM of supporting us woods guys through thick and thin
@Joshua Van Zuydam I know. It was a bad purchase. I watched a guy and he was riding in areas similar to mine and was praising that bike. I hadn't been on a 2 stroke in almost a decade and it sounded awesome. Bad move. Should have stuck with 450X's.
‘Old School PDS’ HaHa you have that backwards kids. KTM developed PDS as an evolution to linkage, by replacing the rising rate linkage with a position sensitive shock they were able to save weight, gain ground clearance and simplify the motorcycle.
@@cyclenews Yes but since The PDS System was an evolution of the linkage system, (Ktm had linkage before PDS) and is vastly different than the actual Old School non linked dual shock setups from the 70’s that you are comparing it to, so calling it old school is misleading at best. Whether or not it was a step forward is be debatable, as it obviously has some disadvantages for closed course racing…
Depends on where you live and what you want from your bike... For example the good thing about TPI / TBI bikes is that you don't worry about jetting. If you live in a region with lots of elevation or temperature changes, then that might be a huge plus for someone who just wants to ride and spend as little time as possible in the garage.
@jugurttipurkki The motor is great. But the suspension and it's lightweight sucks in the Mojave. I totally regret buying it. I should have got another Honda 450X and molded it.

You got it
All this KTM but I wonder if these other companies would have pushed the 2t technology like KTM did for several years when every other brand was walking away from them. Should be grateful for the persistentcy of KTM of supporting us woods guys through thick and thin
Does the wet weight include gas, or just oil/coolant?
We measured with fuel ready to ride.
Beta 300
Hell 3 of the 5 are the same bike.
Pick your colour shoot out… ???
@@jorjimaco5331 I've got a KTM 300 XC-W. Poor choice on my part. It's a terrible desert bike.
tm racing ????? rieju???? Where are they ? 😂
@LW You bought a Hard Enduro Machine for Desert riding. You should have ATLEAST gone for a 300xc. But probably a 450xc or 500 xc would have been best
@Joshua Van Zuydam I know. It was a bad purchase. I watched a guy and he was riding in areas similar to mine and was praising that bike. I hadn't been on a 2 stroke in almost a decade and it sounded awesome. Bad move. Should have stuck with 450X's.
All great bikes ! I love my beta 300rr race
Well said!
I was gonna ask where’s the TM but looks like everyone already did.
It'd be nice if there was more then just 3 different bikes (the other 2 color options don't count), you don't see TM or Rieju very often
Thank you, we couldn't secure either of those bikes in time for this test.
So rejue? No TM?
‘Old School PDS’ HaHa you have that backwards kids. KTM developed PDS as an evolution to linkage, by replacing the rising rate linkage with a position sensitive shock they were able to save weight, gain ground clearance and simplify the motorcycle.
Correct, it's their way of having no link but technically linkage is newer "tech" than non-linkage (PDS)
Beta 300 rr race edition also has a map switch. Maybe you guys didn’t notice any difference with it?
I picked up my new Beta 300 rr race edition last month. Haven’t been able to take it out yet. Was hoping the mapping is noticeable.
Yes, the Beta has the map switch but like the Husqvarna, it does not make much of a difference.
I own a 2020 300RR and the map switch is VERY noticeable. The 2023 should be similar…
@@cyclenews Maybe your dealer forgot to update the program?
KTM wins even with the average explorer fork that everyone seems to upgrade ? Wheres the TM EN300?
They did want to compare the TM becouse will win the contest
Best bike
Needs a TM included. It's a fine bike with all the good stuff. Even the carb models still work great, if not better in ways...
Thanks, we couldn't secure one in time for this test.
TM makes good stuff
TM?
Looks like he dropped the Husky Lol All great bikes. Prefer the carburetor, like the hit. Rather have the KYB suspension too. Great video.
Thanks 👍
I friggen love the AssGas bikes.
Mr pro 300 2-stroke rieju more bang for your buck
Can’t compare the TM 300 EN. Only one with aluminum frame. 😂
Don't forget the YZ250X. Easily upgradable to 300cc when the bore wears out. The yz will spend much less time in the shop too.
I prefer steel framed bikes. More comfortable to ride. KTM, Sherco, and Beta all know what they're doing.
So what do you recommend most for casual trail riding (slow to mid speed, not wide open)
the 450 4t
Depends on where you live and what you want from your bike...
For example the good thing about TPI / TBI bikes is that you don't worry about jetting. If you live in a region with lots of elevation or temperature changes, then that might be a huge plus for someone who just wants to ride and spend as little time as possible in the garage.
Crf50
I have never got why the exc is called xc-w in the us 🤨
You me and all the rest of us here too lol
I have one. Terrible in the Mojave desert. No link is just plain dumb.
@@lw3918 i have a 125 exc supermoto and its nice on the street
the "w" stand for wide ratio. the name is CrossCountry Wide ratio or XC-W. it just has a wide gear ratio
@jugurttipurkki The motor is great. But the suspension and it's lightweight sucks in the Mojave. I totally regret buying it. I should have got another Honda 450X and molded it.
Thats one sexy GasGas, screamin eagle 3.
