      They're over 2.5k just for the engine. It'll already be pulled and either they'll say "ran when pulled" or it has a kdp rod through block.

    Great Video. I have watched POWERSTROKEHELP also, he is very knowledgeable about Fords. I am seeking a Duramax or GM. Do you have any cautious advice for year models to seek/avoid? Also, problem areas to identify? Also, how would you rank Dodge, GM and Fords for diesel reliability, serviceability? Thank you, ROB

    • @DEBOSSGARAGE
      @DEBOSSGARAGE  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Robert Settle Im subscribed to powerstroke help as well. Very informative and he is involved in a charity as well. Duramax are great, but also packed under the hood pretty tight. 05 and before had some injector issues but after that are pretty reliable. I do beleive they cheaped out after 08 as they did go into bankruptcy protection. Paint, rims and interior are all lacking. I would buy an 06 or 07 personally. Cummins is great but the 5.9 are still more reliable than the 6.7. Dodge puts a million mile motor in a hundred thousand km truck though. I would stay away from Powerstroke period. Anything with all the emission crap on it does not pay for itself though. One breakdown and the increase in maintenance cost does not cover the fuel savings.

    Turbo play will be there when there is no oil pressure it's fine as long at the point that the fins of the compressor start to clash with the housing ... They have some movement even when brand New

    • @SirFloofy001
      @SirFloofy001 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They are not supposed to have any play at all, if they do then wherever you are getting them from is using cheap bushings or bearings. A tiny amount of play in a used turbo is fine but brand new i wouldn't even bother putting it on the engine, you risk blowing your seal and that leads to a run away engine.

    Cummin's does their compression test by hooking up a gauge that reads inches of water off the blowby tube. It works. we read 24" of water off a 4BT and that thing wouldn't even fire with ether. Modern diesels use the OEM software program to run compression tests based on amperage off the starter. Powerstrokes will have a high note spot when cranking over indicating injector issues or weak compression and the obvious hard start. Duramax's-leaking coolant-Blown head gasket and smoking indicating bad injectors.

    Thanks for your vids. I appreciate the info. They're logical and informative. That being said I'm looking at a Volkswagen TDI 2012-2015 model years. I'm not deterred by "dieselgate" and I understand what VW did with the emissions, etc but I don't wanna go into it completely blind. They're most likely 1 owner, 40k mile max drivetrain.
    What would you inquire about and look for, to convince you to buy a German diesel vehicle???

      I like those vehicles my brother has one. Very smooth and good on fuel. I would recommend a tuner to shut off all the emissions equipment to keep it more reliable. Otherwise great car. And not sure why but I checked out like 10 of these cars and they all have blow by. It seems to be a common thing with them

    I'm looking to buy a 89 f-350 7.3 non turbo and I'm looking to see what I should look for that I should avoid.

    $1,000 is a damned good deal for that engine so long as you are selling it as a complete drop-in long block with all accessories still on it. I don't have a use for a Gen I CTD though. Also, you live much too far away from me to make it worth my time/money to buy from you. Good info though Rich. I'm sure you've helped some newbies out. As usual, I enjoy watching your videos, when I get the time.
