    • @OutperformOfficial
      @OutperformOfficial  5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Hey Joey, one of the best ways to developing the arch is to do back-overs. Check out this video on how to perform them th-cam.com/video/KTdjOOjb7Ng/w-d-xo.html Also, there are 2 different cues that work really well during jumps with an approach you can try: 1) Tilting your head back after take-off and landing on your shoulders or 2) Getting your eyes over your shoulder of the lead arm. Experiment with each one and see what works best for you.

    • @jonathanmerino9251
      @jonathanmerino9251 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Probably late on this, but yes back over do help. Although, during your approach you want to develop a lean away from the bar. While clearing the bar, you want to flex your lower back and your butt.. This will give you your arch. Then big kick, that’ll throw you high shoulders.

    • @OutperformOfficial
      @OutperformOfficial  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jonathanmerino9251 Absolutely second that, leaning into the bar should be avoided at all costs. We actually go into this a bit more here th-cam.com/video/NJOfhjP28Z8/w-d-xo.html Thanks Jonathan!

      Great performances start with the right mindset. Every great athlete visualizes their success before the event. "The victorious strategist only seeks battle after the victory has been won, whereas he who is destined to defeat first fights and afterwards looks for victory." That is a quote from the art of war, basically you want to show up to the meet after you have already won it in your head. Good luck!

    Can you please do a video on what to do while in the air

    • @OutperformOfficial
      @OutperformOfficial  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Rohan, so this video actually covers a bit of air mechanics (what to do in the air). The rotation in the air comes from your approach and takeoff position. As far as what to think about or what to do in the air, it really depends on the athlete and what works for them. Watch this video starting at 3:40. Coach Baily covers some tips (getting the shoulder blades to the back corner of the pit, land on the shoulder blades etc). Timing is really important, if you are patient with knee drive and lifting the will really help you to hit the correct positions. Another tip that works for some athletes in the air is to tilt the head back or look over your lead arm. We posted another video with some drills that will also help with positions in the air, check out the 2 footed back-over with hip slap th-cam.com/video/KTdjOOjb7Ng/w-d-xo.html. We'll be posting a few more videos during the season to provide some additional tips as well. Hopefully that helps answer some of your questions.

    • @OutperformOfficial
      @OutperformOfficial  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      That’s quite the surprise challenge! For a quick start, focus on the basics: Run up in a curved path to help create the rotation needed for the jump. As you approach the bar, drive your knee up on the side nearest to the bar and lean back slightly to clear it. Swing your arms up to gain height. Even without equipment, practicing the approach and knee drive can be very beneficial.
      Most importantly have fun and don't put any pressure on yourself. Good luck-you've got this!

    I am a high school track coach and am having trouble with one of my jumpers. She is getting a lot of height on her jumps but no rotation. Her upper body is always higher than her legs, and she is landing on her butt rather than her shoulder blades. What do you think might be causing this. Her approach into the pit seems to be the right angle, so I'm not sure that's the issue. Is this a problem of not enough lean away from the bar?

    • @thisisssanja
      @thisisssanja 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually i would think she ist scared of landing on her shoulderblades. Maybe try to practise that with her. She has to really bring her shoulder up and also open up her body to "bend" over the pole. That's a really "scary" thing an might need some time. She has to learn to trust herself that she'll land safely even when she jumps "head first" over the pole.

Work on high jump specific plyometrics and drills, strength training and flexibility. Have fun with the sport and don't become overly focused on hitting certain heights. Hi Darth, if I understand your question correctly - If you are jumping off of your right leg your approach should start on the left side of the mat and your J (the curve you run) would arc to the right. In other words the foot you jump off of should be the one furthest from the mat.

    So I'm a high jumper, and every time I jump, I do a combination of a scissor kick and a flop. I jump like I'm gonna scissor the bar, but I life both my legs up like a flop. So I always mess up and can't get the flop technique down because I do arch my back and I don't go go over in a straight line, but more sideways because I don't rotate. Any suggestions? And whenever I'm about to jump, I swing my arms back, then swing them back forward right before I jump. But whenever I do that, I lose all my momentum because of my arms. Any way you could help me with that?

    • @OutperformOfficial
      @OutperformOfficial  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try doing back-over drills and really focus on proper mechanics. You can also practice with a shorter approach and gradually move backwards. Remember that the rotation is a result of the approach. It takes some time but learning how to run the 'J' or the curve properly will help. Check out th-cam.com/video/-wBdunFVlxk/w-d-xo.html
      In the 'Jumping Smarter, Jumping Higher' master class coach Baily does an amazing job teaching how to build an approach so that is another option.
      Humans are creatures of habit. If you've logged a lot of reps with incorrect technique then naturally that is what your body wants to do. Be patient and understand that you have to 'rewire' the nervous system with a lot of reps done properly.

      Glad you found the video helpful! A good vertical jump is great starting point. It sounds like your coach understands your potential which is great. The high jump is a technical event so working on technique will help you to maximize your talent.
      If you want some ideas for drills and training we just posted this guide on high jump workouts that should really help. outperformsports.com/high-jump-workouts/
      Keep at it and remember that like any skill it takes time to develop, good luck!

    could you explain what it means when your foot is angled between the to corners?

    • @OutperformOfficial
      @OutperformOfficial  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Daniel. Sure thing, the angle of your takeoff foot should between the corners of the mat that you are facing when you jump (check out 2:12 in this video to see an example). In this case it is between the back left corner and the front left corner of the mat. If you jump off the right foot you would want it in between the back right corner and front right corner. Hopefully that makes sense.

    • @OutperformOfficial
      @OutperformOfficial  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Tony, rotation should be a result of your approach. If the approach is correct the body will naturally rotate over the bar.

    • @9812514
      @9812514 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OutperformOfficial Well that is absolutely correct! I just wonder if bringing the knee towards the shoulder helps because the thigh is more aligned with the body.

      Certainly not! The high jump, like all sports, is a journey. Your current performance is just a bookmark and doesn't define you as an athlete. Keep working at it and enjoying the sport, the results will take care of themselves.

    My daughter is in 8th and has a bad habit of diving into the bar shoulder first at times limiting her ability to regularly get higher. She's consistent at 4'4 but has got 4'9 before when ahe was jumping more backwards. Now she's landing more on her left arm side when she's diving too much rather than jumping. She jumps off her right foot.

Bare in mind I'm year 10 and my best competition in all local schools etc is my mate 😂 we both get the same score and everyone else gets 1.45 or less. We doing well for our age or?
    Edit: I changed the measurements and I get 5.29 in terms of ft
