  • In this review of the 2024 Nissan Leaf SV Plus, we take a look into the car's design, range, battery, and performance. With its affordable price point, the Leaf remains a practical choice for city commutes, but does its outdated technology and reliance on the ChaDeMO fast-charging standard hold it back? Find out if the Nissan Leaf is still a good buy in 2024 and how it stacks up against the competition in the EV market.

It's inexcusable that Nissan let such a popular car fall so far behind in technology. The cost would have been minimal so that's not a good reason. Money was spent on body panels and stuff but not on thermal management of the battery or updated charging port? Just dumb.

Even without fixing it they could have given a better battery warranty and a guaranteed low price on a replacement battery, sold a billion

@@rp9674 I believe other automakers will start using long battery warranties to compete the way KIA did a long time ago with ICE power train warranties.

Thanks for the new video! That's concerning they're still using ChaDeMo and air-cooled battery. As a short commute city driver if you have L1/2 charging at home, this would be fine, but if you're looking at driving 80+ miles a day, probably better to look elsewhere.

    Cool video.
I think it's great that you show all the vehicle data at the beginning of the video.
But for that price you can get a Tesla Model 3, can't you? And it's better in every way, ..., and it comes from the USA!😉
Just today in a German podcast they talked about the Nissan, and also criticized the charging port.🤨
What I don't like is the one camera angle that you look past. I hope you don't mind me criticizing it. 😶
So your dog MUST definitely get more screen time in your videos!!❤
I'm not sure if the translation is correct. I hope.
I wish you a nice weekend from Switzerland.

Qué bueno… otro video de Lorena para empezar el fin de semana. You already know that I loved my 2012 LEAF… and still miss some of its features. I'm not a fan of the newer "cut off" center arm rest, and front-to-back cupholders. I think that Nissan should still offer the LEAF, but… they need to give the battery TMS, and a CCS1 charging port. One good feature is that it has 1-pedal driving -which Nissan doesn't offer in its new Ariya. Bummer. The LEAF's charging speed is just too slow on roadtrips. Two weeks ago on a roadtrip, I was amazed that my i5 was always still pulling about 157kW when reaching 80% -and averaging only 14 minutes per fast charge! Wowza! LOVED seeing Calla: he fits the LEAF perfectly!

the price is way to high for what you get. charging is very, very limited and getting more limited each year. Needs to be in very cool area for the battery to stay healthy. Nissan fights you when your battery fails. I Have direct knowledge. Lastly, it limits you from working and going home. Any road trip would be a challenge

    • @EpicDrew15

I learned early on with my Leaf you do not want to go to the dealer for anything EV, I held on to it after I got my Y for errands & for work I sometimes park in a construction area. The paint has held on very well.

Please, if you review the Leaf again or do a follow up-the only reason to buy this car is for the V2X that works today. That would be great to hear about from your perspective. I don't think you've done a solar charging or blackout backup video yet.

Drove a 2016 Leaf SV (used) fro August 2019 until 2/14/2024. Loved the car, though the range was a limiting factor, and kept dropping. Traded it in on a 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric for under $30K. The Kona Electric has a 261 mile range, and showed a 376 mile range recently when I charged it to 100%. The Leaf was giving me between 5-5.2 miles per kW - the Kona is equally efficient, if not better; hes more interior room, and uses CCS1 for charging.

  • @rp9674

Started at the end of 2010, gave their lead away. SV has spicy zero to 60, would be interesting if it was well under 30k.

Thanks. Your video is very helpful and informative and I learned a lot. For example, I had no idea that it uses that charger.
I’m in the market for a new car and I was hoping to get an EV but as I’ve been doing research I’ve eliminated nearly every one for various reasons. The only one I hadn’t eliminated was the Leaf. Now I’ve eliminated that one too. 😿 Oh well. Maybe by the 2030s they’ll be an EV I like.

Nissan's biggest problem is that they're aiming at moving goalposts with the Leaf. Other EV makers have moved technology on greatly since the Leaf first hit the market, and Nissan hasn't kept up a programme of steadily evolving the Leaf. Still, they should find plenty of takers with existing Leaf owners who want to stick with the brand...

    • @nemesis1134

I love my leaf, I would upgrade my Leaf battery if costs for it come down, but doesn't make financial sense new compared to other models. My loyalty to my own Leaf is that I put 100k miles on it and it was my first EV (2012) and it runs great, but you understand the ins and out of charging, Now owning model Y it's not a fair comparison. To name a few having used Tesla FSD to work so I can compare convenience of having an extra pilot, reliable maps, having better safety (no front buffer - Leaf would be frunk is all packed with metal parts) and there is the reliable charging network. Main case I see is the people who want budget used EVs until there is more supply, and those that want to avoid Teslas. I know three other Leaf owners who also moved from Leaf to Y.

@corrycorry6734 Agree but time to get rid of it was 5 years ago. I think Chademo is still widely used in Japan so I can see them just designing 1 charge port configuration for all markets.
Imo it appears Nissan hasn’t invested much in improving the car last few years so keeping Chademo was prob cost saving.
With all that said car is still pretty cheap, there seems to always be great lease deals on these. If you’re looking 2nd hand a lot of quality used ones on market. As a commuter, a 2nd car or even 3rd car if you have teen/senior drivers in your home the Leaf is still an awesome choice.
