In ROTJ, the rebel pilots first took out the Super star destroyers shields and even after doing that a rebel pilot had to kamikaze himself into the bridge.....

As for the armor then thats just budget reasons or simply lack of thought because they probably thought that the cannons would have shot down anyone attempting to do what poe did way before he got that close to the ship so putting armor on them would have been wasted money.

Your forgetting that Star Wars battles are based on WW2 battles. When B-17 bombers would fly bombing runs over Berlin, they were all sticks of dynamite with almost no fighter protection. The enemies would always target the bombers first, and most never made it to target. This was very accurate

The First Order clearly did not learn any lessons from the mistakes that the Empire made when they lost the first Death Star ("The Empire doesn't consider a small one-man fighter to be a threat, or they would have a tighter defense." - General Dodonna, Episode IV) Yet here they're stupidly watching a small one-man fighter destroying all of their turrets.
You could have had a nice callback to Empire Strikes Back, a ground Ion Cannon disables one of Hux's Star Destroyers, then the dreadnought arrives, eradicates the base then is waiting for the guns to recharge or cycle before they fire on the fleet. I got nothing for the shields.
Because they had hyperspace tracking technology so that wasn’t the priority. Plus if they destroyed the ships first, they wouldn’t have discovered the other rebel base on Crait.

BlueMind As boring as those scenes may be, once you understand what is happening you realize just how important each of those scenes were shaping the future for the galaxy. You can actually watch as Palpatine slowly manipulates the galaxy to fall within his plans. Yes there were MORE political scenes, and they were interesting, but they were cut due to length of the film and that the movie can survive without them.
Bernardo Aguilar Actually it was a suicide mission. Everyone who agreed to join was not coming back. That is why the New Republic should’ve supplied the Resistance with better equipment. The time to fall back had long since passed. Recalling when Leia did would bring about more unnecessary deaths, the Dreadnaught would still be intact, and the Resistance ship would be destroyed. There was a LOT of poor leadership in this film.
This was such a military f*ck up. We see three Star Destroyers appear along with the Dreadnought, but they stay far behind it. One should have stayed up front with the other two staying behind as rear guard. The lead destroyer could have engaged the Resistance cruiser with no problem while the other two guarded the Dreadnought as it powered up its orbital bombardment. For a Dreadnought class destroyer, how is it possible for the cannons to be so easily destroyed? One shot, and they're down for the count. I understand they're trying to show off what a great pilot Poe is, but there is no way anyone without plot armor can evade a mass barrage of cannon fire. Again, I point out, there are three Destroyers, plus the Dreadnought... and they can only muster a dozen TIE Fighters? Each vessel can carry hundreds of fighters; the Dreadnought maybe a thousand. Why the blazes didn't the Admiral maneuver the Dreadnought away from the bombers? An argument could be made, I suppose, that they had to remain at that spot to target the Resistance base, but why not move the Destroyers into position? Their cannons were operational and could have easily formed a tactical defense against the bombers. It seems like the whole point of this scene was solely based to set up General Hux for slapstick comedy.
and one more thing. im always wondering why poe didn't just blow up the star destroyer's bridge, rather than shooting to the turrets. just need a couple of shoots were already more than enough to destroy the turrets even with 100% shield strenght. And btw nice editting movies.

Not only was the design incredibly stupid and didn't really fit Star Wars (there's several videos as to why the bombing wouldn't have worked) but the formation was completely asinine. You never ever EVER have bombers in close formation; EVER. (As we see when one piece of debris takes out most of the bombers like a row of dominos.)

knight jaguar One of the most crucial jobs of being a director is understanding how a scene works. Were it me, and I didn't have a tactical mind, I'd consult people in the military regarding formations and mechanic- engineers for vehicle design. Just an example; the First Order is supposed to have learned from the mistakes made by the Empire. The formation they're in (quoting Vader here) is as clumsy as they are stupid. Another example is the battle itself. Those destroyers could hold hundreds of TIE Fighters, whereas the cruiser could hold maybe a couple dozen X-Wings and A-Wings. Through sheer force of numbers alone, the bombers and (I'd say at least most of the) wings should have been wiped out in seconds. And considering how slow the bombers were moving, they would have been easy targets for the escort destroyer's cannons/missile launchers. I could go on and on about this movie, but the truth is, this whole trilogy needs to be scrapped and the writers need to go back to the drawing board. Take the time to really think these things out.

Even Warhammer 40.000 get's this shit right. Just because it's a giant capital ship, doesn't mean it's only defence weapons should consist of two dozen oversized gun turrets. Such a massive vessel would have been littered with hundreds of cannons, and all kinds of smaller and different size rapid fire point defense and missile batteries. Because what's the point with having that much redundant space and storage when you don't use any of it.

My problem is with the dialogue in this movie. No one's tone sounds like they are actually in distress or in a battle. It's just not believable. Sure, theres shouting.... but I dont feel the anxiety of the moment. But, this was a very very good edit. Well done!
To be fair commanders are supposed to be calm and composed at all times. Half the point of being a leader is being a steadfast, reassuring presence even as hell is breaking loose around you.
I think the singe X-wing taking out a capital ships worth of point defence cannons was a bad start. In ANY of the other star wars films there has never been such an OP single pilot. Not without some degree of death shortly after anyway.

Yeah that’s my point, it’s a joke satirizing that the resurgents aren’t helping despite the obvious trouble it’s in since it’s been rendered defenseless by one fighter which resurgents coincidentally had a pretty effective weapon against that was shown previously. We all know it was Hux being a clown (like he is most of the movie) but it’s the same vein as the joke about darth Vader’s Star destroyer not firing at c-3po and r2-d2 escaping in the family guy Star Wars movie. Granted I think it’s there’s a great discussion to be had on how hux idiotically follows in the footsteps of the empire by never using support ships, and expects the super weapon to succeed (yeah remember when the Death Star went to tried and blow up the tiny rebel faction on its own? That went swell)
A lot of the comments seem to be attacking the scene in the movie, so I just wanted to say good job on the editing. Really ties up the action together in a quick, cool scene with my favorite character in the new trilogy.
You know, people say that Poe was just a hot head, not a leader. But when you take out all the forced, "you were being a hot head" dialogue, he did what any LEADER would do. The base was not evacuated, so he needed to distract the enemy. And once the Dreadnaught was in place, it could have easily destroyed the fleet after effortlessly taking out the base. Transports were still making their way up to the cruiser. They were even still docking AFTER the Dreadnought was destroyed. So if Poe had not sent out a squad to bring that ship down, one of two things would have happened. The entire Resistance Fleet would have been wiped out. Or the fleet would have been forced to jump to light speed, leaving at least half a dozen transports behind to be destroyed or captured. Poe made the decision to attack the Dreadnaught, not because he was arrogant. But because it was a calculated, tactical move. So, what was with the "we need leaders, not heroes" line from Leia? Besides, there were only that many losses on the mission because the bombers were designed to be giant, slow moving targets.
Aside from all the dumbases in thr comments, this scene is how Squadrons got green lit and to this day its the best star wars fighter game that's ever been and will be. It was a good decision either way. These bombers aren't the Torpedo equipped X and Y wings the Resistance needed. Trading them for a dreadnought was a net profit. Shame about the crew, but their lives are owed to the idiot who acquired the bumbling strategic B-wings over the more tactically flexible X and Ys to begin with.

The way that Poe Dameron led this attack against the Dreadnought was amazingly critical. If he had listened to Leia and actually aborted the attack, then the Resistance could have been wiped out easily, thanks to the fact that Snoke's large flagship would be there for assistance. That being said, he didn't deserve to get demoted for that. Even though Poe disobeyed Leia's orders and lots of lives and ships were destroyed, I still think that this attack was necessary to keep the Resistance alive and in the fight.
I still remember sitting in the theater being STOKED and then the prank call came and I could tell something was off, unfortunately it just kept getting worse.

A real issue with the new star wars is how the rebels destroys immense super powered starships way to quickly. We get introduced to one of the coolest looking ships (Dreadnought) and within 10minutes we see it destroyed. WTF. Where is the military competence? Also, pointing out the elephant in the room - why don't the rebels take more prisoners? They actually seem just as trigger happy as the Storm Troopers - just different targets. The premise of these rebels seems so weak.
Kinda shows that it doesn’t matter if you are better than us. We have more ships and bodies to risk than you do. They can sacrifice themselves better/more

I agree. And if Po truly IS the "best pilot in the resistance" then the writer should let us know that. Let us know (through the officers on the Supremacy) that what Po is doing is amazing. Stripping away all the surface guns on a warship with a single fighter should not be something that just anyone can "do." Then, you can avoid the whole "Po's fighter is too small and too fast to hit" nonsense, because what Po did was completely unexpected. Also, if anyone can do this, then it makes the First Order look like total fools by not preparing for it.
I guess that in Star wars universe there aren't smaller ships, like frigates, designed to destroy fighters and protect the bigger capital ships from pesky bombers. Also, are you telling me that the dreadnought only have the big turbolasers to defend it self? I expect for that ship to have thousands of smaller laser turrets designed to destroy smaller and annoying fighters and bombers, while the turbolasers deal with other capitalships. Who te hell design this ships? And the shield and armor is a joke, only a few laser shots from a x wing and the hull is getting torn apart.
Why should we root for the resistance or republic? You're telling me the Empire was annihilated and the FIRST threat to appear (First Order) eliminates their entire fleet in one attack and takes control of the galaxy? So indirectly saying the Empire had a more peaceful rule.

Poor Captain Canady, he literally has to yell at his officers to make them do the most obvious shite. The 10 seconds that his officers wasted by telling him the cannons were charged literally cost them the battle.
This scene's goal: To establish how excellent of a pilot Poe Dameron really is as well as set up the overall conflict for the rest of the movie. This scene's actual achievement: Established how excellent of a pilot Poe Dameron really is and showed how completely inept the First Order is at defending its most valuable asset.
I remember watching this in the cinema and being blown away. Episode 8 is my favorite of the sequel trilogy and I remember leaving the cinema in love. After watching episode 9 I left the cinema trying to convince myself I liked it. What a shame.
They got Tie/FO, the Tie Advanced variants and didn't bother to use them, oh i know because they are the antagonist! They knew the good guys will always have some plot armor, that's why they didn't bother to sent out a horde of starfighter as an escort of the Dreadnought!

You could have had a nice callback to Empire Strikes Back, a ground Ion Cannon disables one of Hux's Star Destroyers, then the dreadnought arrives, eradicates the base then is waiting for the guns to recharge or cycle before they fire on the fleet. I got nothing for the shields.
Because they had hyperspace tracking technology so that wasn’t the priority. Plus if they destroyed the ships first, they wouldn’t have discovered the other rebel base on Crait.

As boring as those scenes may be, once you understand what is happening you realize just how important each of those scenes were shaping the future for the galaxy. You can actually watch as Palpatine slowly manipulates the galaxy to fall within his plans.
Yes there were MORE political scenes, and they were interesting, but they were cut due to length of the film and that the movie can survive without them.

Actually it was a suicide mission. Everyone who agreed to join was not coming back. That is why the New Republic should’ve supplied the Resistance with better equipment.
The time to fall back had long since passed. Recalling when Leia did would bring about more unnecessary deaths, the Dreadnaught would still be intact, and the Resistance ship would be destroyed.
There was a LOT of poor leadership in this film.
This was such a military f*ck up. We see three Star Destroyers appear along with the Dreadnought, but they stay far behind it. One should have stayed up front with the other two staying behind as rear guard. The lead destroyer could have engaged the Resistance cruiser with no problem while the other two guarded the Dreadnought as it powered up its orbital bombardment.
For a Dreadnought class destroyer, how is it possible for the cannons to be so easily destroyed? One shot, and they're down for the count. I understand they're trying to show off what a great pilot Poe is, but there is no way anyone without plot armor can evade a mass barrage of cannon fire. Again, I point out, there are three Destroyers, plus the Dreadnought... and they can only muster a dozen TIE Fighters? Each vessel can carry hundreds of fighters; the Dreadnought maybe a thousand.
Why the blazes didn't the Admiral maneuver the Dreadnought away from the bombers? An argument could be made, I suppose, that they had to remain at that spot to target the Resistance base, but why not move the Destroyers into position? Their cannons were operational and could have easily formed a tactical defense against the bombers.
It seems like the whole point of this scene was solely based to set up General Hux for slapstick comedy.
and one more thing. im always wondering why poe didn't just blow up the star destroyer's bridge, rather than shooting to the turrets. just need a couple of shoots were already more than enough to destroy the turrets even with 100% shield strenght. And btw nice editting movies.

Not only was the design incredibly stupid and didn't really fit Star Wars (there's several videos as to why the bombing wouldn't have worked) but the formation was completely asinine. You never ever EVER have bombers in close formation; EVER. (As we see when one piece of debris takes out most of the bombers like a row of dominos.)

knight jaguar One of the most crucial jobs of being a director is understanding how a scene works. Were it me, and I didn't have a tactical mind, I'd consult people in the military regarding formations and mechanic- engineers for vehicle design.
Just an example; the First Order is supposed to have learned from the mistakes made by the Empire. The formation they're in (quoting Vader here) is as clumsy as they are stupid.
Another example is the battle itself. Those destroyers could hold hundreds of TIE Fighters, whereas the cruiser could hold maybe a couple dozen X-Wings and A-Wings. Through sheer force of numbers alone, the bombers and (I'd say at least most of the) wings should have been wiped out in seconds. And considering how slow the bombers were moving, they would have been easy targets for the escort destroyer's cannons/missile launchers.
I could go on and on about this movie, but the truth is, this whole trilogy needs to be scrapped and the writers need to go back to the drawing board. Take the time to really think these things out.

Even Warhammer 40.000 get's this shit right. Just because it's a giant capital ship, doesn't mean it's only defence weapons should consist of two dozen oversized gun turrets. Such a massive vessel would have been littered with hundreds of cannons, and all kinds of smaller and different size rapid fire point defense and missile batteries. Because what's the point with having that much redundant space and storage when you don't use any of it.

My problem is with the dialogue in this movie. No one's tone sounds like they are actually in distress or in a battle. It's just not believable. Sure, theres shouting.... but I dont feel the anxiety of the moment. But, this was a very very good edit. Well done!

Yeah that’s my point, it’s a joke satirizing that the resurgents aren’t helping despite the obvious trouble it’s in since it’s been rendered defenseless by one fighter which resurgents coincidentally had a pretty effective weapon against that was shown previously.
We all know it was Hux being a clown (like he is most of the movie) but it’s the same vein as the joke about darth Vader’s Star destroyer not firing at c-3po and r2-d2 escaping in the family guy Star Wars movie.
Granted I think it’s there’s a great discussion to be had on how hux idiotically follows in the footsteps of the empire by never using support ships, and expects the super weapon to succeed (yeah remember when the Death Star went to tried and blow up the tiny rebel faction on its own? That went swell)

You know, people say that Poe was just a hot head, not a leader.
But when you take out all the forced, "you were being a hot head" dialogue, he did what any LEADER would do.
The base was not evacuated, so he needed to distract the enemy.
And once the Dreadnaught was in place, it could have easily destroyed the fleet after effortlessly taking out the base.
Transports were still making their way up to the cruiser. They were even still docking AFTER the Dreadnought was destroyed.
So if Poe had not sent out a squad to bring that ship down, one of two things would have happened.
The entire Resistance Fleet would have been wiped out.
Or the fleet would have been forced to jump to light speed, leaving at least half a dozen transports behind to be destroyed or captured.
Poe made the decision to attack the Dreadnaught, not because he was arrogant. But because it was a calculated, tactical move.
So, what was with the "we need leaders, not heroes" line from Leia?
Besides, there were only that many losses on the mission because the bombers were designed to be giant, slow moving targets.

Or take the fleet to light speed, leaving half a dozen transports behind to face the Dreadnaught.
The film portrays his action as reckless to make a point. But in actuality, it was the best strategic move that he could have made.

The way that Poe Dameron led this attack against the Dreadnought was amazingly critical. If he had listened to Leia and actually aborted the attack, then the Resistance could have been wiped out easily, thanks to the fact that Snoke's large flagship would be there for assistance. That being said, he didn't deserve to get demoted for that. Even though Poe disobeyed Leia's orders and lots of lives and ships were destroyed, I still think that this attack was necessary to keep the Resistance alive and in the fight.

A real issue with the new star wars is how the rebels destroys immense super powered starships way to quickly. We get introduced to one of the coolest looking ships (Dreadnought) and within 10minutes we see it destroyed. WTF. Where is the military competence?
Also, pointing out the elephant in the room - why don't the rebels take more prisoners? They actually seem just as trigger happy as the Storm Troopers - just different targets. The premise of these rebels seems so weak.

I agree. And if Po truly IS the "best pilot in the resistance" then the writer should let us know that. Let us know (through the officers on the Supremacy) that what Po is doing is amazing. Stripping away all the surface guns on a warship with a single fighter should not be something that just anyone can "do." Then, you can avoid the whole "Po's fighter is too small and too fast to hit" nonsense, because what Po did was completely unexpected. Also, if anyone can do this, then it makes the First Order look like total fools by not preparing for it.

I guess that in Star wars universe there aren't smaller ships, like frigates, designed to destroy fighters and protect the bigger capital ships from pesky bombers. Also, are you telling me that the dreadnought only have the big turbolasers to defend it self? I expect for that ship to have thousands of smaller laser turrets designed to destroy smaller and annoying fighters and bombers, while the turbolasers deal with other capitalships. Who te hell design this ships? And the shield and armor is a joke, only a few laser shots from a x wing and the hull is getting torn apart.

Why should we root for the resistance or republic? You're telling me the Empire was annihilated and the FIRST threat to appear (First Order) eliminates their entire fleet in one attack and takes control of the galaxy? So indirectly saying the Empire had a more peaceful rule.

Poor Captain Canady, he literally has to yell at his officers to make them do the most obvious shite. The 10 seconds that his officers wasted by telling him the cannons were charged literally cost them the battle.
This frames poe really well as both an incredible pilot and resistance leader. Well done.

I remember watching this in the cinema and being blown away. Episode 8 is my favorite of the sequel trilogy and I remember leaving the cinema in love. After watching episode 9 I left the cinema trying to convince myself I liked it. What a shame.
