If the inlet / outlet values were removed during the last cleaning, then unless those values get tightened enough, there won't be any prime. The outlet value - uses a 1 1/4" wrench and needs to be tightened till it stops. The inlet value needs a 3/8" square (steel or wood) diy tool that measures about 3 inches long. Insert less than 1" through the plastic adapter that came with the sprayer. Then using a wrench, slowly snug down that inlet value by turning that steel or wood plug. Slowly turn the value down until the sprayer starts to prime. I've never bottomed out tightening the inlet value before getting the sprayer to prime.

Briley... can't THANK YOU enuf for your extremely helpful video... at my wits end (had begun googling where I might have to rent a paint sprayer 😔)... your tip to depress the screen several times, along with waiting several min, in the event of a dry unit, saved my bacon 🥓!!... wala, finally water started to flow via the primer tube, then thru the sprayer itself.
God bless you for your help.

I bought my sprayer new in 2007. Never used it. I plan on staining my new deck soon. That primer screen might be a problem.

I was told by wagner tech support to change out all ruber o-rings because of certain dry rot

I have always heard that all paints must be screened.

I ran mine thru the paint t sprayer and didn't run it thru any separate paint screen and didn't have any trouble.
