The bluetooth audio actually sounds decent and I've heard mixed results from other reviews. My biggest gripe so far is that you can't enable 32 bit float recording using the transmitter alone. It requires another DJI device such as the Pocket 3, Action 4, or the DJI Mic 2 receiver. In other words, if you buy the standalone transmitter kit, you can't turn on 32 bit float recording unless you have one of their other devices.

its great but if you cant use the native iphone app, that kinda sucks, might as well just use it as a receiver and sync later but for 300-400 clips I take, yeah, annoying. Time to plug the receiver in haha.

Awesome thing about Samsung native camera app is that all you have to do is use the Pro Video Mode and change the audio to BT Mic and it will use the Mic 2. Also I've found in testing the Mic 2 on the X3 and my S23U....that if the device the Mic 2 is paired with via Bluetooth has Wind Reduction, you turn that on and the sound of wind blowing over the Mic 2 Tx will be reduced. Unfortunately, no camera either with Native camera app or 3rd party cam app have a Wind Reduction setting and thus the Mic 2 wont work in that regard. I have tried pressing the Power button to turn it on when paired with the Insta X3 and it did turn Green which means Wind Reduction is On but I didn't confirm it by checking if it really was or not. I'll play with it again to see
***for my ears when using my S23U speaker to watch this...the audio from the Mic 2 with the Rx plugged in vs Bluetooth mode didn't really sound all that different. Maybe if I wore headphones or had it connected to a better speaker

If I'm honest, I found this video a bit "unrealistic". Actually you're right, the sound via Bluetooth has less bass and is a bit flatter in the treble. But who leaves their audios unedited in videos? I turn the equalizer a little and the sound is right again. You do something similar if you only use the DJI Mic 2 as a recorder. Then you have to create it in post. Both are not a big effort when you consider that attaching the receiver makes the whole recording technique quite impractical. On the other hand, always good to see you.

Whether someone edits the audio or not is irrelevant. If you start with a worse quality source then your final output will also be worse. Why wouldn't you want to start with the best possible quality? Look at it like this, in photography you would want to capture as much detail as possible BEFORE you bring it into an editing program. That way you can have more detail to work with. If you clip your highlights or crush your shadows, you will have an objectively worse final image.

    • @mathiassiebert1217
      @mathiassiebert1217 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@Tchoppr Of course, it's better to start with the best possible quality. That's not a question at all. But it is not irrelevant at all whether the video makers are still editing their sound. And your answer is so general and unspecific that it doesn't apply to this case at all. As a musician, sound engineer with my own studio and video creator, I hear that the quality difference between transmitter recording and Bluetooth is not very big. It's there, but like I said you need a little more highs, certain mids can be boosted, and then in the higher lows. It's not much you have to do. And above all, you have to pay attention to practice: There are situations in which you want to be recognized as a video creator as little as possible. Then Bluetooth is better and you will adjust it later. If all conditions are optimal during filming, you just don't use Bluetooth.

The Mic 2 is labeled as omnidirectional by DJI, but for hour case you would probably get the best results using the Mic 2 as a standalone recorder, not connected to the phone, recording internally to the mic and just transfer the audio files from the mic with a usb c cable afterwards - a quick clamp at the beginning will make the sync quick and easy :)

These are always quick clips of the moment and often outdoors with wind blowing. Synching lots of clips with claps could be difficult holding the phone although I’ve actually made a shortcut to speak a time which I’ve used when recording on my watch as backup audio. The issue with using a transmitter only, is you have absolutely no ability to change any settings such as gain, low cut filter, or quality mode. The default gain is so low the audio comes out around -20db. Default internal recording is also 24 bit, not 32bit float. It's a big oversight by DJI IMO not to have an app, configuration file, or button press combination to change the settings.

Sadly there is an issue with going Bluetooth between the Mic 2 and the Action 4... if you start a recording on the Mic 2 *before you switch on* the Action 4, that recording gets stopped when the Mic and the OA4 establish a Bluetooth connection. I was hoping that the Mic 2 would provide a continuous back-up track for me, but even with Audio Sync disabled, if you happen to restart the Action 4, the standalone recording on the Mic 2 gets stopped whenever the two devices reconnect. I've made a quick video about it and also I've reported this to DJI. I hope there is a fix but somehow I doubt that there will be. You have to factory reset the OA4 in order for it to forget the Mic 2 but then at least you can use the Mic 2 separately and still sync in post.

Does it record 32bit float internally in bluetooth mode?
Then use the internal recording to sync in post?
A lot of ND filter adapters system blocks the rear mics on smart phones.

There is another disadvantage with the Bluetooth connection and it also applies when using the Action 4. If you use the quick start option to record but dont use your phone/camera for about 15 minutes then the Mic 2 will power off meaning when you want to record again you will need to power the mic back on manually. A bit of a problem if you are a vlogger like myself and the mic is inside your helmet and your doing 100kmph 😂

Among all the Wireless Mic at this price range, the DJI sounded the worst. It's not even a subjective thing about sound quality, it just sounded lower quality than others at the similar price range. The mic while never marketed as match, they are not consistent, one sounded darker and another can sound brighter. What's worst is that, these DJI mic are way too bright and thin which is less suitable for spoken words application which is what this mic is used for. I like everything about this mic except the sound quality. Rode wireless pro sounded the best but I don't like the form factor and their case seemed "forced" but if I had to choose. I'll still go with the wireless pro in a heartbeat. Did I mentioned that these DJI Mics are not shielded? Or poorly shielded? They are not a mic company so I understand that, but these are basic.

another main difference is the intelligent noise reduction is only available in Wi-Fi mode because the kung fu is in the receiver. Noise reduction is not available by Bluetooth alone.

    • @TamaraGabrielUK

You don't need the receiver for the Noise Cancellation, it's at the transmitter level and works via Bluetooth.

@@TamaraGabrielUKGreat video :) but not sure about the noise cancellation, DJI even states on their website (although slightly hidden behind an (i) icon and in the faq that intelligent noise cancellation and internal backup recordings are disabled when connected to smartphones with bluetooth - I made a video on my channel about it on saturday, also highlighting the «not stellar» bluetooth audio quality, and doing a follow up video this week about the different recording options / use cases and the sound quality of them all + a couple of «hidden» tricks :)

I just published a video about something related to this on saturday, one thing is the fact that the bluetooth audio is «not great», but using the DJI Mic 2 in bluetooth mode disables the whole internal recording function on the mic! When the Mic 2 is in Bluetooth mode, if you hit the record button on the mic to start an internal recording it just goes «brrrt» and the red recording light goes on and off again. (they do «inform» about this issue on thw website, hidden behind and (i) icon and at the bottom last point in their FAQ, but it took me three tried to discover it by chance - DJI really has some work to do thw coming weeks, cause there are several use case scenarios that aren’t working like one would think, and especially the «no backup recording while on bluetooth seems *really* weird considering those circuits shouldn’t really have anything to do with each other, unless they are using the bluetooth chip to control the internal recording when connected to the DJI Receiver - gonna do a full video on the quality differences between dji receiver and bluetooth connection as well in a couple of days because it is quite audible when doing it in a controlled environment :)
