Have you noticed that when the mic is connected via Bluetooth that the Blackmagic app freezes on start up a lot of the time and also pretty frequently drops frames mid-shot? Picked one up recently and I’m having this issue. Not sure if it’s just me or if others have this issue too!
Weird it dosent work with the iPhone video app. These are expensive and even the cheap Amazon ones connect right away. It’s not showing up in the setting in black magic either but shows in the iPhone Bluetooth setting
Thank you for pointing out that you have to press the Bluetooth button to finish the pairing. I watched other videos that didn't show this and couldn't figure out why it wasn't pairing with my iPhone.
Even though my Bluetooth settings showed the dji mic was connected my solid blue light didn’t come on until I’d changed the audio source in the black magic app, just in case anyone else was having issues. I found this video really helpful and straightforward, thank you 🎉
I bought the dji mic 2 receiver/transmitter set, but then needed an extra transmitter (so I could use two mics at a time), but I cant connect that second transmitter to the receiver? Any recommendations other then buying the charging box?
Great video Jason. I'm looking at just buying the transmitter too but some say default settings are a bit quiet? Is there a way to adjust the volume of it? Thanks
Thank you again, used the link for the Blackmagic camera app and recorded a short vid. As you mentioned, there was no playback of audio until I changed the mic source back to iPhone 👍
I pressed the link button twice, but it still doesn’t show up on my iPhone’s Bluetooth options. I also downloaded the black magic camera app, same thing. The blue light is blinking fast on my microphone. Did I do something wrong?
I just used my new DJI mic 2 and did the internal storage recording. I’ve synced it up in iMovie with the recorded video. It’s good for a few minutes then the audio is ahead of the video and is out of synced three separate recordings and videos and each one has the same problem. Can’t find videos about it. Is it a frame rate setting that needs changed or an issue with the mic? Would appreciate the help
Thank you! This is super helpful. My lightning port actually snapped off and I haven't been able to find a replacement part. Do you have any suggestions for that? I tried contacting DJI and looking on their website, but no luck.
Thank you very much, do you know if it is possible to use that app but switch it to the front-facing (selfie) camera on the iPhone? I'm not being able to find where 🙉
Good one :) I’ve made two videos about this in the past, one the day after it came out since I bought it same day only to discover that DJI «hid» the info about bluetooth to iphone-limitations «pretty deep» on their spec page. The one thing you didn’t mention here though is the horrendous quality of the bluetooth audio recording. It uses a lower bandwidth/quality bluetooth audio codec/standard, so audio recorded this way with BT is lower quality compared to using the receiver. Now combine that with the disabled backup internal audio recording feature (which could have provided an alternative by syncing up internal recording later in post) the bluetooth «feature» is a very last resort for me :/
Thanks for the suggestion - it's always hard to know how much detail to put in videos - you could of course just use internal recording and then sync to the iPhones scratch audio in post :) :)
@@JasonRobertsVideo Yeah, it’s always a struggle balancing what to include, you covered lots of the same findings I’ve found as well :) Using the internal recording to sync with native audio from phone is something I’ve done a couple of times and it works well as a backup solution as long as the phone isn’t too far away :) it’s just a pity dji didn’t use better hardware for better bluetooth audio, then it would have been the killer feature I originally hoped it would be needing only the mic and phone for quick videos :)
The bluetooth to pocket3 that comes with the creator combo sounds fine to my ears, albeit I am no sound guy. One thing I noticed which was really bad was that one mic 2 connected to pocket3 (which is default in creator combo) will only record one audio channel. So you have to dupe the left-right audio track in post. Took me a day to figure out how to do it in resolve and luma. Annoying. Now I just use two mic 2's (I bought another) and get both left and right audio track and dont fix anything in post. I could, but I just dont usually bother. On another note, figured out some fairlight resolve stuff recently (i have studio) and some amazing audio post processing there that's pretty easy even for me. The iphone bluetooth connection sounds really bad. I have an iphone 11 i kick around for recordings as well, I probably will just get a wired rode mic for that and not even bother using the mic2's. Too many limitations.
@@ro4lol Thanks for watching :) Yeah using bluetooth with other DJI-products like pocket 3 and osmo 4 gives much better audio quality than Bt to iPhone, DJI is doing some trickery there or maybe using a better bluetooth audio codec for the connection, so with those devices the dji mic 2 is gold :) If you think about it it’s only logical that one dji mic 2 will give you 1 audio channel, the mic is mono, not a stereo mic, so it would make no sense for it to record that one channel to 2 audio channels in the video :) Also, when using 2 dji mic 2’s for an interview the 2 mics are recorded on the 2 audio channels so you can adjust them separately - so it’s only logical :) The trick in the editor is to set the audio channel to be a mono-channel, I use davinci resolve myself and I just have to switch the audio channel on the video from stereo to mono and I have a single channel centered :) I haven’t used luma myself, but I would guess it should be possible to switch the channel spec from stereo to mono, have a look and see if you can find a setting for it - no need to have stereo channels for spoken words and stuff :) I use the Røde VideoMic Go 2 with a usb c directly into my 15 pro max and it’s great :) Before that I used it with the audio cable into my iphone X which also worked pretty well :) If you are «run and gun»-filming it’s a bit of a hassle to setup the receiver and stuff for dji mic 2, but for longer talking head videos and stuff connecting the receiver and using the mic 2 isn’t all that bad :)
Thank you!! I watched several video's about this subject, because I had NO sound playing the recorded video in the Black Magic app. You are the only one telling about this ;-)
I need a wirless mic that allows at least 4 mics to one receiver. Recently bought Audigo and on paper it was supposed to be really good for my podcast being that I rely on iOS, my iPad and iPhone to do everything because I’m not really that text savvy. I purchased them and they’ve been everything but perfect every time I record with them the last 15 minutes of my recording always sounds robotic. I don’t know if it’s a connectivity issue or something on the apps and very frustrating the amount of money I spent on waiting to see reviews and finally pulling the trigger just to receive a product that lets us put all our effort into recording, and then have the recording compromise towards the ending.
Hello Jason! Do you know how I can connect two dji mic 2 microphones in the Blackmagic Camera app on my IPhone to do interviews? I've tried but it only lets me connect one microphone. Thank you very much
Hi I haven't tried that but I'm assuming only 1 - If yo need to do 2 mics you might need to attach the receiver to the phone and then connect the 2 mics to the receiver and not the phone directly.
What if you needed multiple mics? I assume you can't have multiple microphones connected via bluetooth at one time, so for 2 people you'd need to plug the receiver into your phone? I actually need 3 mics, so I'm assuming this set-up wouldn't work for me with shooting on an iphone?
I don’t know if someone already pointed this out but the DJI Mic 2 works with any camera app, I just found out if you try to playback the video with the Mic 2 still connected, the iPhone will play the audio through the mic as if it was a bluetooth speaker. Disconnect the Mic 2 and play your video…
@JasonRobertsVideo like which ones for instance? Excluding any audio interface and editing software on PC. Ive got all that. I'm looking for quick recording straight from the phone to quickly post on social media
Are you sure that if you are conected via Bluetooth then you can't record backup inside the transmitter ? That would be ridiculous, thats why this backup should be created - when bluetooth has a problem then internal file will save your video. What for is this internal recording, when you don't use streaming from microphone ?
When I tested it it doesn't record internally while connected to Bluetooth which is a shame because that would be great. Internal recording does work if you are connected to the DJI Mic 2 Receiver.
Will the DJI MIC 2 physically be able to connect to an iPhone that it's in a protective case? I'm having issues getting it to work and it looks like only solution is to remove iPhone from its case. Correct?
I bought this but the audio quality is soooo tinny. I’ve spent so much on wireless mics and they all sound so tinny I’ve never been able To use one and always ended up using a plug in mic to my phone instead 😢 I don’t know what I’m doing wrong
When I connect via BT to iPhone it’s not showing up as an option in audio settings in black magic app. Software on phone and mic2 are current. Any ideas?
When Without the dji receiver the sound is low quality. It would sound better to use the phone’s internal mic, or connect a lower priced receiver system (example: Comica, Hollyland)
oddly when first using blackmagic camera app it worked, now theres no dji in the listing for audio source. solved - had to reset settings in blackmagic app.

When it comes to starting a TH-cam channel honestly I would just start with your phone and it's built-in microphone - if you have the money and time then get what you suggest but use the receiver and 2 mics for interviews - there's so much to learn about making and editing TH-cam videos over the gear you use :) :) All the best with the channel!
