"They stole for us his image, His secrets guarded dear, But gave in turn a royal gift In the luck of the Pioneer." this is such an evocative image holy shit I hope one day I can write something as awesome as this
Ever since I first heard this at a convention, mumble-mumble years ago, it's always made me tear up a bit. Even now. Nostalgia and love for the spirit of the song and for the hopes and intentions pinned to those brave little crafts like Pioneer that we've sent out into the unknown to tell us what's out there. Just gets me right in the feels. 💜
Getting these songs uploaded onto the web, and into the internet archive, is seriously commendable work. Like real Alan Lomax type work! This is account is my hero.
This song kept me going through college. The Hope to be involved in a project like this. Maybe something I participated in completing the puzzle that is our ounderstanding of space even further. I Just downright love the spirit behind this song.
Think of it this way - with our hands, with our knowledge and gifts of friendship stowed aboard, the Voyager has made humankind, and it's legacy as a species, immortal.
Thank you for doing this. These songs are absolutely wonderful, and the quality I originally found them in made them difficult for my children to understand and enjoy. Thank you.
It’s real sad that the pioneer probes will not show us what they see when they reach other stars since they ran out of power years ago but maybe there is something that will at the very least see a non organic object fly past them and they will be certain of intelligent life outside their own system
Pioneer carried an earlier version of the message. Voyager's was just a little more detailed; it also carried a recording of images and sounds from Earth encoded on a gold disc.
yes there are a number of probes that have star-charts and basic fundamentals of math and physics to prove we can understand science but any civilisation advanced enough to reach earth would probably have examined it as a habitable planet centuries ago, assuming that form of life is even vaguely similar to us, we would already be of interest anyways
Even in strange, far-off eons, the Voyagers will be a monument that mankind lived.

I've never been compared to Alan Lomax before but I 100% dig it

This song gets me emotional whenever I hear it.
The Pioneer mission is underrated, change my mind
What a great achievement for the whole of Humanity. However, the "message" was on Voyagers

a new space age shall be proclaimed and we shall venture forth into the long dark.
How has APOD not done a slideshow to this song yet
RIP Voyager
Theyre still active, sure they're down to a few years left but they're still alive
Who comes uo with these versers
So if someone in the verse wants to f**k with humanity, we gave them the blueprints?
Asking for a friend ...
