    In this video, I install a new VanTop H610 rearview mirror, dash cam, and reverse cam into my Toyota 4runner. This unit modernizes the 4runner by giving it a reverse camera and also increases safety as you can see what's behind you and also record incidents automatically when the vehicle is being driven or if an impact occurs.
    The install for the front is relatively straightforward with the standard plug but I take it a step further by doing a hardwire kit. The reverse camera is a bit more challenging and tedious due to the rear hatch but I show you each and every step.
    Enjoy the video!

    Great video. I just finished installing my dash cam. I ended it up installing a Wolfbox. The front camera is 4K resolution and the rear camera is 2.5K resolution. I ran into the same issue with not having enough cable for the rear camera. I currently have the rear camera mounted on the interior but, I’m going to move to the exterior. Thanks for showing us all of issues that you ran into, they really help.

      Yeah it’s outdated now. There are many new units now so check the reviews. I’m sure the install are very similar

    Just discovered the channel and love your content. Question: Is it possible to have the screen come on only when reversing?

    • @PhoRunner
      @PhoRunner  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The screen turns on always when the truck turns on. It shuts off after a minute or whatever setting is set. I usually turn mine off right away. Then when you go in reverse, it will come on. Off when back to another gear.

    Thanks for the detail on this. I've been looking at other rear camera install videos (with no luck), and I should have known I could count on you to have one to get me through this. Although I'm not doing the mirror (at least not yet), this still helped me to follow everything through to the reverse light. When I get my wires through that boot at the hatch, I'm left with the split red to the tail light and split black to go to the camera (which is normal). That black split piece was way short, however, so I had to order an extension yesterday from Amazon.
    A couple of questions: (1) around the 26:00-ish mark, my red line looks to be joined with a black line (they're essentially one), so should I split them and connect the red with the reverse light and the black with the white/negative wire? (2) around 28:00ish, looks like your camera wire runs through behind your license plate w/out any holes. They drilled a hole behind there in a couple of other videos I watched. Hoping I don't have to do that. Again, thank you! Your videos are timeless and still helpful way after you've posted them.

      26:00 yes split the wire up if you need to for easier splicing.
      28:00 mine has weird crusty foam that i just punched through with a philips head or whatever you got that is pointy. No need to drill a hole.
      Thanks for watching! This video was a long one lol.

      @@PhoRunner right, the crusty foam (I've watched different segments multiple times and forgot about that - LOL). This device looks pretty sweet, I may have to switch from the stereo version at some point. Thanks, again!

      @@PhoRunner I ended up returning my backup camera (wasn’t getting anything on the screen when I shifted into reverse), and I got a VanTop like yours. Didn’t have to go through the pain of wiring the hatch cavity again, but on this one, when I shift into reverse, the mirror shows the front view only (I only see
      Reverse when I’m out of reverse). I have the red camera wire spliced into the red/blue reverse light wire. There is no black (ground wire) with this product, so that can’t be it, right? And nothing splices into the wire/black reverse light wire? Maybe it’s because I have a stick shift??

    • @PhoRunner
      @PhoRunner  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The manual shifter shouldn’t matter since we’re tapping into the reverse light circuit. Perhaps your camera is looking for a positive signal or negative signal?? Try a few wires out and see lol. You’re close

    That is too much hassle to install. You kidding me. All that trouble to install a dash cam.

      i warned you! The only hassle is the rear camera lol. The rest is pretty easy.

    So if this is only on when the ignition is on, is it always losing the time and date/does it have to be reset every time you turn the car off/on?
