For anyone looking at 24 brz mt. I had some trouble finding out this information before i purchased. The brz appears to have eyesight gen 2 so it only has some of the features mentioned. No lane centering or steering assist at all. No nanny telling you eyes on the road. No leds in the dash. No rear braking. Basically just adaptive cruise, pre collision braking, front vehicle move alert, blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert. Disabling also seems to be much easier in the brz than in wrx. You can do it through the dash menu or radio or just by fully disabling tc (which can be done with 2 physical button presses at any speed). Personally dont find it too intrusive and would rather it yell at me than i accidentally crash the car. Definitely some issues here and there with sharp turns or poorly marked roads but i would say its does more good than harm. In the end to each their own, some people may find it way more annoying. I've figured out how to live with it so I don't hate it. Its a daily so that adaptive cruise hit different 😩
I hate it in my brz, i feel like the brake warning system is too aggressive, i've had times where Im already on the brakes and it's just full on slammed on them and near causing the person behind me to hit me
Also a 24 BRZ manual here - personally love the eyesight. Definitely had some instances where I've looked down at the radio or over at a passenger and had the car warn me when someone in front stopped short. Super easy to turn off by fully disabling tc and you can do that at any speed so it's basically 2 button presses. It also lets you change these options in the dash but PCB can only be changed when the car is stationary. It feels like a good balance as it provides enough of the nanny's that genuinely help while letting you turn it off easily

I have the 2024 Limited with manual transmission, the pre collision braking is a nightmare on my daily commute. There are some 2 lane roads with moderate turns and it panic brakes for oncoming traffic in the other lane occasionally (about once a month). I've also had it panic brake when approaching a right hand turner who is clearly going to be gone seconds before I reach him. Even had one case where it panic braked for a speed limit sign in a downtown area. I wish it was a warning only system. It also throws a tantrum every time I park in my garage but that's at least not a safety issue, just annoying. For me, the emergency braking is more of a hazard than a help. Nearly gotten into 2 wrecks because of it. Thankfully the very confused person behind me was actually paying attention in both cases. Beyond that it seems to work ok. Cruise control is a little too aggressive on trying to maintain an exact following distance but it does seem to work.
@@beastybaiter7378 thanks for your comment and sharing your experience. It would be nice if there was an option to have it strictly as a warning only. I wonder if Subaru gets enough complaints they provide some sort of update that will allow eyesight owners to have that capability.

I'm picking my first brand new car up next Saturday and it's a 2024 WRX premium and can't wait lol! Going to be night & day difference going from a 24 year old car to a brand new one with all these features I'm not used to lol. Hope you like yours!
Thank you for this informative information, i have recently purchased a 2024 Subaru WRX Sport CVT, this is now becoming very intrusive for the owner 🤔 Au
Had an '18 Crosstrek and got the CVT so I could have the Eyesight system. Loved having it but have wanted a WRX forever and it had to be manual. Said I'd buy the WRX if they put Eyesight in a manual. I now own a '24 WRX. Love it.
I have it on my 24 BRZ tS. It scares the crap out of me. I had to completely turn it off and also the pre collision braking. If you are enthusiast driving twisty roads and it’s all on it just seems like an accident waiting to happen. It alarms and triggers with things not even on the road.
I always turn off pre collision breaking. Its like a routine for me: autostart off, brake hold on, pre collision off, wait till the revs go down and off we go. It feels like Im driving an airplane 😅 But seriously, I would love to have a direct pre collision off button somewhere.
The best part about my 22 WRX is that it's fully modern without most of the crap I hate about modern cars. The modding restrictions and having to turn stuff off every time is stupid and the data being pulled I definitely don't want to be used against me. That being said, if that data I could also access in the car I might be alright overlooking. Having a pre installed dash cam and g force overlay etc would be dope
@@yourfriendlyneighborhoodjinx preinstalled dashcam would be nice for sure. As long as it doesn’t send out recordings to the dealer or something like that
I had a 2015 Impreza with EyeSight(TM). I loved it so much, especially the adaptive cruise control, but I couldn't stand the CVT, so I got rid of it. I wanted to buy a manual transmission Subaru with EyeSight for years, but eventually gave up, because stupid Subaru. By the time Subaru added manual transmission support, manual transmission trims were all gone from cars I'd have wanted to buy, like Forester, Crosstrek, and Impreza. So I now have a '19 Fit EX MT6 and a '24 Civic Sport MT6, both with Honda-Sensing. Even the latest Honda-Sensing is horrible compared to now almost a decade old EyeSight. I considered '24 WRX Base, but Honda's K20C2 (no turbo, no direct injection) won me over. Lastly, I don't believe the adaptive cruise control "distance" setting is based on fixed "distance." It is based on time-to-leading-car. So the distance will vary based on speed. At 30mph, the distance will be relatively close, but at 60mph, the distance will be 2x, even at the same setting.
What about the most important aspect of Eyesight--the constant annoying beeping that you have to live with every day of your life? It was so bad in my 21 Outback that it was a major reason why I got rid of it. Even on the lowest volume setting, it drove me nuts with all the beeping. It was SUPER annoying. You couldn't turn it off either, unless you totally disabled eyesight. My brother had a Forrester with eyesight, and it wasn't quite as loud, but it was still annoying. How is it in the WRX?
Also....opt out with data sharing. Car companies allow you to be identified, thanks to data brokers compiling all this data.and making you identifiable. It may be worth it to actually disable your star link antenna physically.
I’m happy the manuals have AEB, adaptive cruise etc now, but they still lack features that the CVT gets like parking sensors, rear air vents and memory seating. What the fuck!?
At your own risk but you can disable it with just some masking tape or a removable opaque film, over one or both of the cameras, for your "off road" driving. It's the easiest way, The system will just record a "cancel code" as "windshield dirty"... So nothing very bad logged.
@@CP6161 Thank you very much. The one thing I should have mentioned in the video is that I actually installed the dashcam in the grey area, right below the rear view mirror. I know in the video I said Subaru doesn’t want us to do that but I have been driving with a dashcam in that location for over three months with no issues. It’s a bit ridiculous that Subaru doesn’t allow anything in such a large area on the windshield - I’d rather have the peace of mind of a dashcam than following subaru’s rules. But, that’s only my opinion. @@egorlike1324 it would be best to get either a 2022 or 2023 WRX if you want to avoid the safety stuff as the 2024 and newer WRXs have the safety tech standard on all trim levels including the base.

Anyways, thanks for watching and I’m glad my car gave you a little inspiration for the Sport Grille - in my opinion in changes the whole front end look!
@@carswithseppthe way it works now is that you get a discount if you allow access, at least for USAA. The option is there to save upwards of 20%. The kind of people who'd be responsible enough to allow access will likely not be the kind of folk who'd want to get away with an accident in which they were at fault. Eyesight actually helped me in a catastrophic accident last year where someone cut in front of me and brake checked me into a collision before driving away from the accident. I've never been at fault, but this could have been an incident where I could have been found responsible. It's not the eyesight thing that concerns me so much as it combined with telematic surveillance, cabin audio surveillance from starlink, and data from any connected devices to the onboard AP. Very minority report possibilities, or increased exposure to targeted advertisements, and access for hostile actors to not only the information but control of the vehicle. Imagine China cyber actor cutouts using an AI to target networked vehicles and run a destructive routine that employs a coordinated 'wreck the roadways' during peak traffic to clog everything ahead of other attack vectors or orchestrated emergencies.
They can get this information since the 90s the car even stores how long you pressed the seat adjustment. If they want they can but as long as you don’t turn them off nothing is an issue of course
I went to a dealer and changed one of the eyesight settings, and it persisted off/on. Do only some persist? Or do they save temporarily, but will clear without power for hours?
I got a 23 this spring could of gotten a 24 but this eyesight thing was in the back of my head. Although this is a 2 year lease, the eyesight they might be a deal breaker on going into a new year model. I mean people drive manuals because they want to drive the car and control it not the other way around which is what you’ve demonstrated eyesight does… I’d might give the intelligent cruise thing a try but not thanks for the rest . It's just more junk that will break and only the dealer will be allowed to repair for an outrageous fee. I'll keep my 08 TL type S going as long as possible, thanks.
How do we permanently disable this?
One more argument to just get the base model, nice set of rims and a rear sway bar. Will cost less than higher trims and you dont have to dig thru menus every time you start the car
@@egorlike1324 it would be best to get either a 2022 or 2023 WRX if you want to avoid the safety stuff as the 2024 and newer WRXs have the safety tech standard on all trim levels including the base.
@@carswithsepp man :(
@@egorlike1324 i know!!
Another concern is insurance companies gaining access to driving habits/data gathered by Eyesight and the like.
Excellent content, as usual. Keep up these VB features videos. (BTW: I added the JDM Sport Grille to my ‘24 WRX after seeing how good it looks on your TR!
Thank you for the comment! Yeah imagine if the dealer sells info on how you drive to the insurance companies, just so they can charge you more on your premium. Spyware but for cars!
I believe only some persist. Emergency braking will toggle back on once you restart your car.
@@carswithsepp thank you
@@progpogs no problem
Very informative vid … 24 WRX owner as well. My advice, just turn most of this nonsense off, get a dash cam and drive the car with full attention.
Thanks for the comment. I wish there was a single switch that can turn this all off
@@carswithsepp I wholeheartedly agree 👍🏽
I got a 23 this spring could of gotten a 24 but this eyesight thing was in the back of my head. Although this is a 2 year lease, the eyesight they might be a deal breaker on going into a new year model. I mean people drive manuals because they want to drive the car and control it not the other way around which is what you’ve demonstrated eyesight does… I’d might give the intelligent cruise thing a try but not thanks for the rest . Good info there thanks !!
@@kevinsavard2681 Thanks for the comment. It’s great you got the 23, it’s the last year of the WRX before all the computer safety stuff!

hopefully someone figures out how disable it permanently.
I know Subarus get a really bad rap because of their horrendous reliability and their bad looks, but it's pretty cool they still offer a manual transmission.
Too bad about those overly intrusive electronic systems.
Just put vinyl wrap on the cameras. It will bug out and turn itself off every time 😂.
LOL blind em!
Subaru giving us anything but an WRX STI or a turbo manual hatchback.
Laughs in 2020 STI
My Tesla model 3 has all this but it works seamlessly. Problem when things are poorly executed they get overridden which defeats the purpose
just put duct tape over the cameras😂
@@eight6369 LOL
Yeah maybe just some masking tape or a removable opaque film, for your "off road" driving. It's the easiest way, The system will just record a "cancel code" as "windshield dirty"... So nothing very bad logged.
Just unplug the cameras
That will throw a check engine and light up and most of the warnings, just use tape if you MUST.
I have a dashcam just under the camera, inside the grey area. Kind of scared now
I do too. I’ve been driving with it for 3 months with no issues. I’d rather have a dashcam over eyesight bugging out!
Can you guys recommend a good dash cam?
@@deltafire5058 I've been using a Blackvue 590 2ch for almost seven years and it's been great. Used it in my previous daily and swapped it over to the WRX. The footage in the video at 6:09 is from that dashcam. Blackvue has newer ones that are better (recording 4k) so you can have clearer footage
@@carswithsepp Thanks.
You're going to feel great when your nanny tech goes bad and you need to pay $1000's for tech that you don't need or want so you can drive your locked down car.
We'll see how it ages over time. Eyesight tech (originally called ADA) has been around in subaru's since 1999 so hopefully they got it somewhat figured out now. If eyesight decides to crap out on me, I'll make sure to report back in a video!
Eyesight is dangerous for any car… it takes control from the driver. It should be an option , not a requirement.
So you would rather like seeing people that fall asleep, having a heart attack, etc get stuck in a car that they can't stop nor can emergency services rescure them or their car crashes into of vehicles.
@@gamespc7880 if you bothered to read my comment “it should be an option, not a requirement“ you are an illiterate and obtuse simpleton.
@@gamespc7880 no, I think XijdliX doesn't want to live in 1984, which is exactly what this technology unlocks for car manufacturers, insurance companies, police, etc. Also, when it malfunctions, enjoy the ditch it'll land you in.
this is not something for enthusiast, that's for sure.
I Really dont get all the hate for this... the WRX is in the end a sporty daily driver, these systems make it a better daily driver. If you dont like it, thats fine, you can turn all of the systems off and act like your a hardcore rally driver on the road in stop and go traffic...
It's change, primates don't like change. Seatbelts and airbags pissed people off 😂. I bought the model I got largely because of these safety features.
You do realize the price of the car goes up every time they add one of these systems?
@@deltafire5058 prove it.
Look at base msrp of 23 vs 24 for either brz or wrx. Most of the price change is exactly the delta related to this tech.
Also this isn't a passive safety feature like seatbelts. For people who don't understand the massive difference of how this can be used by entities other than the driver (vs a seatbelt) there's no hope of any rational discussion.
They’re probably the same type of people who think the government can control the weather or whatever 😂
