Blue Crabbing, Finding New Spots

  • Blue Crabs, catching them with hand ring traps in the Tomoka Basin in Florida. We tried several spots in the area where our viewers could go Crabbing from the shore without a boat. the tide was going out so it wasn't an ideal crabbing day. Using our Ring Traps and Chicken for bait we were able to catch 6 meaty Blue Crabs, enough for our dinner. Because of storms we had to stop crabbing, but we still had a great day. When we got home we cleaned and steamed the Blue Crabs. #catchingbluecrabs #crabbingtomokabasin #crabbingfromshore

      Right, we used to go there years ago, sometimes it's nice not to deal with the boat and just crab. We also enjoy watching you and your family, great videos we've been a subscriber for a while. Over the west coast now going to see if I can find those jumbos again
      tomorrow. Nice hearing from you Mike

    We have used that type of crab trap many times, never thought of putting the cork at the top of the lines. Great idea!!! Gonna steal that idea, okay? Loved the video.

    • @TheOldCoupleOutdoors

      The cork works great so you don't push the crab out of the trap when pulling back. I actually was a viewer who gave me the idea. Thanks again for Watching Joyce

    Be careful at this spot. It looks like a good place for gators. I think Joyce changed her mind about telling you not to wipe your hands on your britches when you said you would wipe your hands on her shirt. lolol The way Sam throws the ring traps in the water I bet he is good at horseshoes. Always looking forward to your new videos. Thank you all for sharing. Be safe from Tennessee.

    Guys, thanks for posting these little areas around your home for crabbing from shore. Not everyone has a boat, or a center console with a non-carpeted floor that can wander around the river like you two do all the time. I'm driving down from Canada in a couple of months and have been looking for these locations to catch a few of Florida's big blue crabs.
    By the way, I know that a recreational crabber is limited to 5 crab pots, but this same limit apply to the ring nets too? I couldn't find anything about it in the rules.

    • @TheOldCoupleOutdoors
      @TheOldCoupleOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think there's a limit, we sometimes use 8 traps and handlines combined but there's two of us. If you want to make sure, call FWC and ask for an officer to call you back I do it all the time, That's the only way to get a correct answer don't ask whoever answers the phone because they're often wrong.

    Hi guys.
    This is exactly what I was thinking of doing tomorrow.
    Great video. I love tomoka state park.
    I fish out side the park on those dirt trails that run off the main roads .
    Haven't done much good with crabs there but I know at times they fun good.
    I notice you always have a burlap bag covering the crabs. Does that keep them better when there out of the water? And do you wet it with salt water first?
    Thanks for the video......

    • @TheOldCoupleOutdoors
      @TheOldCoupleOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I usually wet the bag and put it on top of them after we pull our commercial pots because we don't use ice. Over Tomoka we use ice because we open the cooler a lot and put the bag on top of the ice so the crabs don't get into the ice water and drown. Always nice hearing from you
