- In this video we walk you through how to easily catch blue crabs without a trap using hand lines. This is one of the best ways to catch a whole lot of blue crabs using a hand line, crabbing net, and chicken for bait. We probably caught a couple dozen keepers so if you like blue crabs and want to catch them cheap and effectively follow this tutorial and you'll be eating good!

I would recommend getting these crabbing lines instead of using just regular line. The weight on the end holds the chicken on the bottom better than just the line. Without the weight the chicken can move out of the honey hole and you will just waste your time! They are also super reusable, we have had the same set since we were born.

You want to get a long crab net so you can scoop the crabs without them seeing your shadow. This net is great because if the netting ever gets cut up, you can easily replace it. The design is nice, simple, and sturdy.

If you want to catch crabs, but not have to put time into it a crab trap is a great option for you. Just put some chicken or dead fish in the middle, and put them near an underwater drop off and crabs will be sure to fill it up!

Get yourself a crab cooler to store your crabs in while you continue to crab. You'll want to keep them alive as long as possible because if they die the meat goes bad quickly. We usually fill the cooler up with ocean water or ice to keep them fresh!

We were able to do a little crabbing during our trip to the beach! Ended up catching a couple dozen tasty blue crabs. How many of yall usually go crabbing when visiting the beach?

Great technique! I also crab this way but I have a pretty cool trick that I've figured out over the years. If you find the deepest spot, the biggest crabs will gather around there and as long as the sun is above you, you can throw your drumstick up into the air and into that hole. You want it to come splashing down like a bird landing in the water. The biggest crabs you have ever seen will jump off the bottom and GRAB the chicken! If you get one of these, good luck getting it back in. It will be the biggest crab of your life. I guarantee it!

@@StopFishingStartCatching No problem! It won't work every time, and it might not work at all, but when it DOES WORK it is really something. I am guessing it could take between 100-500 throws for it to happen. The weird thing about it, is you have to throw it further than you usually do and it's all all about the splash down. You will sometimes see it when people are throwing their bait away at the end of the day, they throw it further out because they don't care anymore and it happens, everyone crowds around to look at the huge crab that's just too far away to get it back.

Another good video. I like to use zip ties around the base of the drumstick and loop a parachute cord to the zip tie. It’s cheap and quick too. I would lay the net down and pull the crabs into it..... you all did great! Catch n Cook!?

Caught 1 had about 2 more at the dock , 3 channel cats over foot long , big soft shell turtle, had my 20 lb line break
Here in Israel we catch them with chicken wings, it is cheaper and you can tie the wing easily👍

Try putting the net down in the water, pull the string high, and scoop from under. Much higher success rate lol

hmmm I'm not sure brotha -we usually just catch them so not too sure what the going price is. But I'd say if we are in a good area we can usually catch about a dozen in an hour or two so if you look at it that way it's about $35 bucks an hour if you were to do it yourself! But thanks for watching!

No I don't use checking I use fish I got a couple of crab traps they called crab hotels is three ways getting inside of them but they can't come out the factory entrances on the crab traps make a go in but they can't come out you wait every hour to pick up the next get six to eight in each trap that's good for me
How do you know if it will be blue crab or duganess in the water . Do crawfish come on there or how do you just know it will be crab , only . Im new just Intrested I want to try crabbing one day
Have you tried or know someone who tried using both fish and chicken in the same trap as bait?
We actually tried this once as a test - the chicken ended up catching more crabs. But it wasn't super scientific (the traps were in different areas/not right next to each other). But both have worked well for us in the past.

We live near the coast so walmart usually carries them! But pretty much any fishing store should have them as well! Thanks for watching and good luck hunting downing some crabs!
What if you tie a couple of monofilament snatch loops (like for rabbits), then the crabs legs’ll get caught and no need to net ‘em!

This was in North Carolina! Gotcha - yes where we were they were so plentiful you could literally just walk and scoop them up - probably took 2-3 hours for 20ish crabs? If you want more specific locations let me know. Have a good one!

Crabbing with chicken is horrible for the ecosystem. You should really be using something like bunker.
