That "jalopy" has a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.

Its a Dodge Monaco.. speed limit when it was built was 70. It could do 140 all day long and not even break a sweat. My buddy had a 74 & at 100mph the motor was running about 2000 faster than idle.

I love the Mad max video game at ps4, it tells the story what the movies didn’t, and is a great honor for the movies in my opinion.
It’s more fun than I ever would believe!
The movies were and still are my favorite ones, the mad max 1 was banned here in Finland at the 80’s and 90’s and I got it (around 1995-1996) as a vhs copy from imported usa version, without any subtitles, but as a ~8y old kid it didn’t matter!
It just lit up my mind for learning English, so there is a massive positive effect also from that aspect to me. 🙂
And the storylines are still getting me into tears, allways has been.
I just wish I could live that live in real life. It would be so damn awesome compared to today’s world..
No need for ”apocalyptic” survival has made the human race weak and controllable. In a negative way.

  • @netrioter

I was about to disown this list but then To Live and die in L.A. and the Road Warrior showed up...i got you. The Blues Brothers was filmed in 79..with 70's cars. It got a proper spot. The 1974 Dodge Monaco 440 Police Interceptor would actually do 135 mph with some room..like a couple of miles. What you seen was actual speed. It could get to 120 mph in a few blocks under the El..not bad for 4500 pounds and a 2.23:1 rear end

Blues Brothers car, lol. I blew the 383 in my 1970 Cuda' at the drags - still won. Engine was a paperweight tho. I snagged a 440 Magnum engine, milled the heads, bored the walls, stroked the rods to 4.500" turning the engine into something a touch larger than a 535 cubic inch. The car was a runner for sure. I was clocked at 158 mph just going for beer once. I was just cruisin really, the car had more - 3:20 gears in the pumpkin that day. Back in the day we had to work at getting the numbers factory cars get today. But damn it was fun.

Needs to be on the list: the scene where the main character from "Short Time" is fearlessly chasing the superviolent bad-guys in his unmarked Dodge Diplomat police sedan. He thinks he's terminally ill and he therefore thinks unless he dies 'not in the line of duty' his family ( who feels terrible about neglecting for his job as a hard-nosed police detective ) will not receive his insurance policy benefits. The whole notion, along with his intensity while chasing the bad-guys and mocking them for not stopping him with their automatic weapons, and how that Diplomat keeps on the bad-guys while it is nearly destroyed in the chase....it's all hilarious and the stunt sequence is fantastic!

Miami Vice "Bought and Paid For." The chase with the Countach 5000S and the 365 Daytona (McBurnie kit car) running down the streets of Miami. It's not a movie but a series and it was in the 80's.....it's iconic and the noise of that V-12....WOW!!!

One thing that impresses me about the Blues Brothers....As many know, Dan Aykroyd drove his ass off for that film and even got stunt credits for it,. Even if its not a mounted shot, or interior shot or scene.. Any time you see the Blues Mobile, It is Dan behind the wheel. What tickles me so much and garners my respect, is not only the fact that He was driving but rather, Their expressions never change.. I remember reading an interview with Belushi and he said something to the effect that acting for the movie was cake but keeping his shit together during the chase scenes beside Aykroyd was the hardest acting he had ever done. XP

I'd be curious to see your list of the best chases from each decade. This formula works well since it's too hard to make a "top 10 of all time" list without EVERYONE's list being practically the same group of the most famous chases. They end up overlooking the lesser-known gems like some of the films in this video.

I still remember reading a quote in an ad for 'The Road Warrior' in the L.A. Times 'Calendar' section (the entertainment section which had articles and ads for concerts, movies, etc.). Printed ads for movies back then had quotes from film critics, and while I don't recall the critic's name, one of the quotes was something like, 'The final chase scene in Road Warrior makes the chariot race in Ben Hur look like a square dance!' After seeing 'Road Warrior' as a young kid, that quote was NOT just someone's opinion...
