This movie feels like the perfect example of when movies use licensed music. Sure, other times it's obnoxious (mostly cuz it's just songs that are popular at the time), but the way they use music in this movie is SO WELL DONE. So many different things accommodating the music: The timing, what's happening in the scene fitting the lyrics, the STORY itself-it's so fucking COOL!
You might appreciate the OST from the game Cyberpunk 2077. They hired dozens of musicians to make songs for the game world that play on in-game radio stations. They had a punk band, Refused, create an album for the game as a fictional band, Samurai, which is comprised of in game characters. Each main character in the game, and as well certain story arcs for the main character all have their own "theme song" which variations and remixes of play throughout as their stories advance. in reality if you tried to do this in Atlanta you'd either end up sitting in traffic for 2 hours or your tire would pop because of all the god damn pot holes in this city

Even if we assume the hilariously low average ticket price at $3.25 this TH-cam video was still viewed more times.
6 years later and I still love how the hero car isn't a brand new model. It'd have been so easy for Subaru to say "Yeah, use a 2017 WRX, so we can launch an ad campaign for those and sell more." It makes so much more sense in universe for the hero car to be a Hawk Eye
@@bskelton4547 Actually he did because tokyo drift is a moment from future after dom's team including han robbed drug businessman in 5 movie. So when jason statham killed han I think it was the same moment as from tokyo drift
The film is full of details like that. Almost every gunshot in the entire film is done in time to the background music. Also check out the Queen scene from Shaun of the Dead. Suffice to say Ed loves this particular trope. So do I, honestly.
EV..ER...Y..THING is synced to the music. It's such an underlooked thing that makes this movie great. The acting is good, and the plot was good but the audio...masterpiece!
I think a big factor is what makes this movie so good (and all of Edgar Wrights stuff tbh) is the characters. They're not one-dimensional good guys or bad guys, they have character development and obvious motivations and most of them are somewhat sympathetic.
It's unfortunate because throughout the movie, Buddy was the only one who was really kind to Baby. He would defend him from Bats, compliment him, etc. Too bad they turned out to be enemies in the end.
I've admittedly seen this film 3 times already & this is probably still my favorite scene! Edgar Wright continues to be one of the best directors working today!
My favorite scene was the running scene later in the movie. I love how Edgar Wright paid for 2 extra days of filming out of his own pocket just to have that scene.
Car chase movies....i don't care much but this one ? i was expecting nothing about it and ...god damn, what a kick in the ass !! WOW in 20 years, this one will be a cult classic !
Everything in this movies syncs with the music. The doors opening/closing, putting the coffees on the table, Baby dancing. I literally mean everything.
I know that I can practice social distancing with one million pounds in my backpack and with a shotgun in my hands. If police catches me I'll tell them that with the shotgun I verify if they are at a socially acceptable distance. If they are to close they'll be shot by me because they came in my safe zone...... but also the firing range of my gun.
at some point in my early 20s, I came across a magazine that listed the top 50 or 100 uses of songs in movies. as someone who loved both, this became probably my biggest obsession - imagining a film scene that was elevated from the use of a specific song. about 10 years later, during the middle of which I did my masters in filmmaking but had come nowhere near working on a film, i went to the cinema to watch this film with some colleagues. while i got in my seat first, i was waiting for them to come in as they were straggling behind with their popcorn and drinks. i was distracted when the scene began, but about a minute in, i became aware of just how precisely the edit was going with the song, and i suddenly forgot about the people i was with and became truly transfixed. the scene, and its perfect, miraculous synchronisation with the song, kept becoming more and more exhilarating. when it ended, i found myself wanting to jump in my chair with excitement. it was a great reminder that cinema can be such an intensely immersive experience. one of my favourite memories of all time.
This was actually an underrated movie. I remember seeing it here open day in Denver, it was like empty. They should put it on Netflix. EDITTT Baby driver 2 - 2021🔥🔥🔥🙏
IMO this is possibly the single greatest opening scene and/or music scene in film. there is so much characterization packed into every part of it and the use of the song combined with the structure and editing is incredible.
I often wonder HOW did Edgar Wright came up with it, like did he sample everysong as he was sketchboarding? The part where they slow down just before and the song changes beat at the same time is just perfection. The man is precise
First time I saw this scene I had to literally stop what I was doing, grab a decent set of earbuds in silence and truly took into account how FREAKING amazing they did this from start to finish. Perfection.
Oh look at that man singing and dancing in his car, patiently waiting for those other three to finish their businesses in the bank, I sure hope they aren't doing anything illegal
Man... from this opening scene to the end of the movie I was engaged the entire time. This and the foot-chase scene has got to be some of the most intense scenes I’ve seen in any action movie. 10/10 would highly recommend
Tracerfire yea upon rewatching it again, it still was just as fantastic and thrilling and I changed my rating on IMDb from a 9 to a 10 so I’m gonna edit my comment.
Knowing how they made this scene, they were editing it shot by shot on the filming truck, every shot was done second by second. There's no filler shots or B reel, every shot lines up with the next
The graffiti throughout the movie reflects what song he's listening to. The whole movie is about baby's choice in music and so it's built around his playlist. Every Edgar wright movie is always underated
me: can’t even back into a parking spot baby: literally backwards drifted to avoid hitting a truck and then turned the car forwards again without losing control

The horns in the traffic scene match too.
It's the musical details like these that are so fantastic, no one may have noticed these, but it was added in awyway
Lots of things in the movie sync with the music the gun shots, the windscreen wipers etc.
Can't believe this still hits after 5 years🔥
4:56 Seeing Buddy look so proud of Baby just makes the finale much more heartbreaking.
I think a big factor is what makes this movie so good (and all of Edgar Wrights stuff tbh) is the characters. They're not one-dimensional good guys or bad guys, they have character development and obvious motivations and most of them are somewhat sympathetic.
Wait isnt that doc the mastermind
@Ketchupdodge it's not ,,wasted Time" it's a great Movie, i had very joy watching it ^^
It's unfortunate because throughout the movie, Buddy was the only one who was really kind to Baby. He would defend him from Bats, compliment him, etc. Too bad they turned out to be enemies in the end.

at some point in my early 20s, I came across a magazine that listed the top 50 or 100 uses of songs in movies. as someone who loved both, this became probably my biggest obsession - imagining a film scene that was elevated from the use of a specific song. about 10 years later, during the middle of which I did my masters in filmmaking but had come nowhere near working on a film, i went to the cinema to watch this film with some colleagues. while i got in my seat first, i was waiting for them to come in as they were straggling behind with their popcorn and drinks. i was distracted when the scene began, but about a minute in, i became aware of just how precisely the edit was going with the song, and i suddenly forgot about the people i was with and became truly transfixed. the scene, and its perfect, miraculous synchronisation with the song, kept becoming more and more exhilarating. when it ended, i found myself wanting to jump in my chair with excitement. it was a great reminder that cinema can be such an intensely immersive experience. one of my favourite memories of all time.
