I love the evora, but when someone looked at it and a brand new Porsche it was a hard sell. When the Supra came out there was a markup pushing the cost to 75,000 for an automatic car that wasn’t what Toyota loyalists wanted.

Well I think that's a pretty common situation when working on the more advanced BMW models. They are not made to be serviced by normal people with limited tools and access to parts. Actually a lot of modern cars are like that, but the more expensive ones seem to be worse. When I grew up we had a neighbor who was a mechanic specialized on one brand only. The absurd thing was that they sent car over to him when their own mechanics couldn't repair them. He knew just about everything about the strangest kinds of problems in that brands cars and could set his price accordingly. It was good for him, but it didn't make we want one of their cars.

That BMW 850i with the Donut license plate at 20:33 is the one that I helped import from Japan back in 2019. i ended up working on it a couple times. it was great to drive but god was that thing a pain. it had serious battery draw issues. the dashboard would suck power from the battery and kill it over a couple days. It was then gifted to Donut as part of a business deal. I've seen it a couple times over the years in the background of videos

I own a 996 Porsche 4S. You can buy FIVE of them for the price of one reasonable mileage air cooled 964 or 993. I guarantee you, it's a LOT of car for the money. I've enjoyed mine for three years now and it's been very reliable and gives me thrills. Great bargains.
That's the reason why I recentely went with a porsche 928, I am just waiting for the seller to go for a mandatory before sale check. I don't have the money for an air cooled porsche let alone one that's old enough to put it on classic plates. 944 and 924 are in the same boat, cheapish because they aren't 911's but they are still amazing cars.

Owner of a '70 LeMans here. Aka the GTO's fancy brother. The GTO is considered by some as the first American muscle car. The Judge! The Firebird! Smokey & the Bandit's Trans Am! That was quintessential muscle! For us fanboys, the "new" GTO in the era of the Camaro, Mustang, Charger & Challenger revival felt like a slap in the face. I personally believe If GM would have followed the trend & leaned into the old school styling for the GTO we would still see Pontiacs on the road today.
As a former automotive journalist, when you have your hands on a car for - at most - a week it's tough to get any sort of in-depth handle on the machine. Worse, when you've had less that five years at it, there's a subconscious tendency to relate what you have driven today to what you drove a week or three ago, even when the two cars might not be be in competitive segments. Factor in preferences for car types or brands drivetrains or whatever, and it's understandable why the journalistic profession might not be as objective as we sometimes think it is. And why they might get it wrong when the customer gets it right.

As a former automotive journalist, when you have your hands on a car for - at most - a week it's tough to get any sort of in-depth handle on the machine. Worse, when you've had less that five years at it, there's a subconscious tendency to relate what you have driven today to what you drove a week or three ago, even when the two cars might not be be in competitive segments. Factor in preferences for car types or brands drivetrains or whatever, and it's understandable why the journalistic profession might not be as objective as we sometimes think it is.
And why they might get it wrong when the customer gets it right.
No manufacturer was trying to be eco-friendly when the 996 was being produced.

I've always felt that the magazines bash certain cars without any real reason. Porsche 996 and the F-50 are prime examples.

The GTO was disappointing in styling. We wanted a retro style like the challenger.
Yup. That was pretty much the only complaint about the car when it came out. No one wanted that egg shaped styling that looked like a late 90s 2 door Chevy Prizm/Toyota Corolla.
I don't think it even had to be retro styled. If it just looked like that concept that came out a few years before, it would have sold.

I can't even describe the amount of disappointment I had when they revealed the new WRX. My dream of going to a lot and buying a brand new WRX is absolutely lost. Takes like 10 grand worth of mods to make that thing look even somewhat nice IMO
As an M2C owner, I have to give props to the Supra. Driven properly that b58 and platform outperforms a proper M car. It breaks my heart but I will never be sad about owning my German muscle car and 6spd

@@rajivbeachoo3785 Probably not, because they would have just come out and said something and they have to know that "Where TF is James?!?!?" is basically half the TH-cam comment section these days. Best guess is he's still under contract with them and he is actively trying to renegotiate his position there or trying to negotiate an exit that is favorable to him, and that he, Donut, and anybody else who actually know what's going on are all bound by confidentiality agreements and can't discuss anything.
