Dislike his voice and always found the sax and violin gimmicky and adding little to the music but I saw them at the H.O.R.D.E festival in 1996 and Matthews gave 100%, red-faced with his neck veins bulging as he sang.
At the Live 8 concert in London in 2006, Bono took to the stage and declared solemnly, "Every time I click my fingers, a child in Africa dies." CLICK. CLICK. CLICK. A wag in the crowd pipes up - "WELL STOP F**KING DOING IT THEN!"

If you guys all think Mellencamp is annoying, he's even more so when you live in Indiana. Local radio can't stop playing and covering him, and his songs are average at best. It's so bad that when one of his sons gets in a bar fight it's a leading story for week.

I agree with Nick on GVF. I worked a gig with them last year. It was a packed house mostly made up of young people in their teens and 20’s with a large portion being females. This is for a band that plays blues based heavy Rock. No samples, no backing tracks, no DJs. Doesn’t mean we have to like em but I was happy to see youngsters supporting real Rock music.

Pete’s comment implying that Nirvana is responsible for the disappearance of solos from rock music really jumped out at me. I’d always blamed that on punk. I don’t hate punk at all as music - I think it can be energizing and compelling and even fun - but I’ve always thought that punk made soloing uncool, and I’ve hated it for that. When people say “old music was better”, I think that’s a big thing they’re wanting in contemporary rock and not getting - an instrumentalist stepping up and making a statement like a singer does. It shifts the world under my feet a little to think that it might be Nirvana’s fault instead.
Actually, lots of punk has solos. I never thought of it as "music without solos" at all, really. Of course, they were never virtuoso, shredding minute long ones but they're there.
Yep, saw The Damned last year, and Captain Sensible was shredding like a maniac throughout the whole show. His playing is very Hendrix inspired, I was really impressed. The band were killer as well, it was one of the most exciting, high energy shows I'd seen in years.
I remember when he was on the cover of Time & Newsweek magazine with the caption He's here to save rock music. That was in 1975 & Physical Graffiti-Led Zeppelin, Sabotage-Black Sabbath, Toys In The Attic-Aerosmith, Wish You Were Here-Pink Floyd, Ted Nugent-Ted Nugent, On Your Feet Or On Your Knees-Blue Oyster Cult, RainbowRitchie Blackmore's Rainbow & many other excellent albums came out. So what did he save with his recycled 50s music?
I don't necessarily have any sort of problem with Bruce, it's his fans I have problems with. Many of them act like he is the second coming of christ for rock music and.... he isn't. He is a competent rock artist, that's it. Has some decent stuff but the majority of his material is nothing special, very meat and potatoes. Nobody but people in New Jersey gives a fuck that he is from there. You compare him to an actual legendary rock band like the Rolling Stones and he isn't even in the same league lol.
Ralph bitching about Prince and Jackson was so funny. I love both but I laughed so hard. Love these rant shows even though it's always the same being mentioned.
Glen Matlock, the bassist and songwriter of the Pistols, has lived a fairly modest life since that record (although he did not play on the record itself). I'm a definite fan of the Pistols, but Metal Box is where it is even more at!

I know I thought he said Savatage too I was like wait wait a minute are you nuts ...Savatage is awesome and totally underated and have been for a long time
Loved the topic. It should get a lot of views. Similarly I have been thinking about this topic that would make a great Hudson Valley Squares show..."The bands that did not reach their potential because of their vocal performances" . I think there are really big bands that would have sounded so much better if they just had god vocalists, like GnR, Megadeth, Metallica (probably James would agree but could not get John Bush), from 90s bands Smashing Pumpkins etc.
Guns n roses .Lived for years off the legacy of one decent album R E M . Don't like there sound. U2 Don't like anything about them Billy Joel Never cared for that dowop crap Green day. They make never want to listen to music again.

The only band that I followed in the 90s - and they're technically an 80s band - was Social Distortion, who nobody ever talks about. Saw them live seven times. And the first Mike Ness solo album was fantastic. So having to endure Green Day's endless popularity has been a bitter pill. While I've liked certain songs by some of the bands mentioned tonight, the bottom line for me is: what artists mentioned tonight have I actually purchased music from? The answer is Motley Crue (Shout At The Devil and Theater of Pain,) Nirvana (Nevermind,) Alice In Chains (Dirt,) and Pearl Jam (Ten.) That's it.
In a fair and sane world, van der Graff generator’s a plague of lighthouse keepers would be the most beloved, appreciated, admired and studied popular music song of the late 20th century
I agree with you and Ralph. A friend on mine lived near him, and said he used to bum cigarettes off of the locals. Also, he and Meg Ryan would disrupt the local restaurants when they got into shouting matches. He always tried to portray this image of a small town guy, but he's a total douche. Great episode. Luis and Ralph are hilarious. I support Ralph's Bruce and Prince takes. Especially Prince. Prince took funk and make it soft. My top 2 picks would be the Eagles and Billy Joel.
I DESPISE Green Day with every ounce of my being. Total corporate rock garbage and a phony outrage factory to boot. If I never heard them again it would be too soon! Motley Crue are a close second!
Luis is 100% correct about Regeton. Every single song has the same exact rhythm, probably sampled and repeated by every single artist/band. It is insane.
Old school reggaeton is the best. Don Omar, El General, and Daddy Yankee’s prime was amazing and incredibly innovative for Latin music that tried to adhere to the American market at the time. I dislike reggaeton today though. Bad Bunny tries too hard.
Bless you Luis. I hate reggaeton too. It is the soundtrack for stoplights on the Texas coast, and if my pain has to be sacrificed for someone's pleasure....sorry Universe. That's not right.

35:28 Holy crap The Wall. I got my first 10-12 CDs from that store. Nostalgia!
Saxon’s most current album is great.
Ralph is the Man lol
In a fair and sane world, van der Graff generator’s a plague of lighthouse keepers would be the most beloved, appreciated, admired and studied popular music song of the late 20th century
Mellencamp hates his music too. He hates his career, always has, he despises being a musician, he would rather be known for his art (painting)
I saw him get booed off the stage in 1979 opening for Rainbow when he was just Johnny Cougar.
I agree with you and Ralph. A friend on mine lived near him, and said he used to bum cigarettes off of the locals. Also, he and Meg Ryan would disrupt the local restaurants when they got into shouting matches. He always tried to portray this image of a small town guy, but he's a total douche. I hate the guy- hate him.
I remember the Wall. Changed their name to FYE to punt on their supposed "Lifetime Music Guarantee"
i once broke up with a girl cuz she put on bon jovi
A valid reason.
🤣🤣
Guns N Roses, Poison, Foo Fighters, Green Day, Blink 182
I could go on for a while including a lot that were mentioned! Luis was fantastic, I hope he comes back for more guest appearances here!
Agree with u
Yes, Jon Mellencamp blows but you need to add Huey Lewis and Eddie Money which equally SUCK!
Artists and bands that annoy me, if i rattled them all off my list, I would still be here tomorrow 😅 There's so many but if I narrowed it down, my list would look something like this
1. Justin Bieber
2. Taylor Swift
3. Coldplay
4. Ed Sheeran
5. Guns 'N' Roses
This was fckn hysterical!!!!
Luis is great i love his rants on prog seat show. Hes so intelligent and passionate about his music.
Luis' rant on KISS 🤣🤣🤣. The Professor would approve!
Nice Nevermore shirt, Rob! 🤘🏼miss them so much.
Me too was able to see Warrel with Sanctuary a few yrs before he passed
1. Nirvana
2. The Black Crowes
2. Pearl Jam
4. Limp Biscuit
5. Coldplay
Thank you for mentioning Peatl Jam. I hated their music when they 1st came out and I still do. Their noise doesn't move me at all. Eddie Vedder is the ultimate in pretentiousness. "We're for the common man". BULLSHIT
I agree with your other choices too
Black Crowes are perfect
@@onlysleeping8934 Most overrated grunge band EVER!
Coldplay would be my number one. Can’t listen to them.
I remember the Wall. I am in Harrisburg Pa we had them here. And Nick, please dont hold back and let us know how you really feel!!! LOL
I hear a ‘97 Honda coming down the street 😂😂😂
I love watching Pete.
I love watching Pete & Martin
I really love the UK Connection
First time watching Hudson Valley Squares and now, for fook sake, I love this too
1. Pearl Jam
2. U2
3. Def Leppard
4. Dave Matthew's Band
5. Korn, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Slipknot, and anyone else of that genre
Enjoy the first 3 Leppard albums....the 4th is okay...but they kind of lost it after that...Did see them in concert....they were decent.
Great episode. Luis and Ralph are hilarious. I support Ralph's Bruce and Prince takes. Especially Prince. Prince took funk and make it soft.
My top 2 picks would be the Eagles and Billy Joel.
I'm amazed no one mentioned Coldplay , jesus, if music was a laxative , that band would have everyone shitting bricks.
I mentioned them at the very end; agree with you 100%!
With you!
I DESPISE Green Day with every ounce of my being. Total corporate rock garbage and a phony outrage factory to boot. If I never heard them again it would be too soon! Motley Crue are a close second!
Agree and agree.
They got into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame because of their politics. It certainly wasn't because of their music...
I’m surprised that no one said Pearl Jam
You did😅
Can't argue with any of your pics. Although I'm a U2fan from their 1st record onwards. Purchased Never Mind then turfed it. All hype.
All good FUN. 🤩 Thanks guys. Very entertaining. 👍💯
exactly!! 🤘
Yikes. "has to be sacrificed" is supposed to be "is the sacrifice". Folks, check your posts when COVID shows it's ugly head.
I expected Luis to list Jon Anderson… but he did mention Olias Of Sunhillow in a negative connotation, so I’m not too disappointed!
Someone else hates Mr Mellencamp as much as I do
