  • Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory in San Francisco makes 10,000 fortune cookies a day, but you won’t find them in any restaurant. Instead, the business relies on tourists who want to see the process that goes into making the famous cookies. Owner Kevin Chun isn't too concerned with making a profit either - he even hands out free samples of the cookies that aren't up to standard.

      Fortune cookies originated in Japan.

    • @-kohakuma-
      @-kohakuma- 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@aceyfox73 That's not quite correct.
While a confectionery that had a luck fortune inside was made in japan, there have been similar fortune confections in china as well before the edo period. The cookies made in japan didnt look like the fortune cookies we see now. I think it comes down to how literal the word fortune is being used if we want to call japan the originator of fortune confectionery

Everyone who I take here loves the taste of the cookies. They are nicely browned. I prefer buying the bags of the flat ones. They taste better than the fortune cookies you get at most Chinese restaurants and places like Panda Express. The rent was increased in the last few years so he's not making a huge profit. It's a worthwhile stop during any trip to Chinatown.
They haven't asked for money for taking photos for years fyi.
I think it's currently about $9 a large bag of cookies and at $10 the lady will give you a new reusable bag and throw in extra flat cookies so you can eat them as you walk around without having to open the bag (s) of cookies you just bought.
There's a boba shop next door in that alley too.
