Idk but I'm kinda bothered by how they were giving historical events backwards. I know it's told that way to have a final reveal at the end of the video but still .. 😐
Am I the only one who loves eating the cookie? It's actually good though It kills me when someone cracks open a fortune cookie and just leaves the cookie and not eat it at all!
I actually really like the backwards chronology, it allowed the story to be a mystery longer. I think it would've been really boring if you were just like "this person invented it"

When my parents visited me in Hong Kong they were surprised there weren't any fortune cookies with the final bill when dining out. I've been all over Asia and not one fortune cookie to be found lol.
I think that the backwards timeline was perfect because we’re trying to found out where fortune cookies come from, so technically, you guys are arguing about something that doesn’t make sense?? Think so. And also, his voice is a blessed to my ears, gosh!! Such a warm voice. I wish I could hear it every single day :PPP
N_H, it really can't. "Irony: the expression of one's meaning by using language that normally signifies the opposite, typically for humorous or emphatic effect." 'The opposite' being key here. There's nothing opposite about him eating a fortune cookie right before watching a video about fortune cookies. Hakito is correct, he probably meant coincidence.
I actually just learned about this in my Culinary Arts class! Basically what happened is a man in Japan invented them and sold them from his little bakery/cafe. They grew, and soon a lot of Japanese were making them, and when people started immigrating to the US, the Chinese saw the fortune cookie and how popular it was. However during WWII, the Japanese were sent to internment camps, so the Chinese took over and said the fortune cookie was theirs and they invented it.
This is a really good video topic! But me as a Chinese,I have never heard or seen fortune cookies🤨I just know it from the Chinese restaurant in those American TV shows😂🤔

I hate foods that don't use the full egg. They're like "use 3 egg whites and 2 yolks" so what am I going to do with the left over yolk? I'm NOT going to waste food.
Great video, but the order in which the events and dates are presented is super confusing. Why are we starting at the end and going backwards? I had to rewind and rewatch several spots to figure out what was going on. Just start at the earliest date and move forward from there.
I see! If you want savory Tsujiura Senbei with miso and sesame oil, here's a modified recipe for you: **Ingredients:** For the Senbei: - 1 cup rice flour - 1/4 cup white miso paste - 2 tablespoons sesame oil - 1/4 cup water - 1 tablespoon soy sauce (for a savory flavor) - 1/2 teaspoon sugar (optional, for a touch of sweetness) - 1/4 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste) For Coating: - White sesame seeds (for coating) - Black sesame seeds (for coating) **Equipment:** - Mixing bowl - Whisk - Parchment paper - Baking sheet - Rolling pin - Large round cookie cutter or cup **Instructions:** 1. **Preheat Oven**: Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. 2. **Mix the Savory Batter**: In a mixing bowl, combine the rice flour, white miso paste, sesame oil, water, soy sauce, sugar (if using), and salt. Adjust the salt to your taste preference. Mix until you have a smooth, savory batter. 3. **Shape the Senbei**: Place a heaping tablespoon of the savory batter onto the parchment paper and use a spoon or spatula to spread it into a thin, even circle, about 4-5 inches in diameter. 4. **Coat with Sesame Seeds**: While the batter is still wet, sprinkle both white and black sesame seeds generously over the top. Press the seeds lightly into the batter to ensure they stick. 5. **Bake**: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 12-15 minutes or until the senbei turn a deep golden brown and become crispy. 6. **Shape and Cool**: Remove the senbei from the oven, and while they're still hot, use a large round cookie cutter or a cup to shape them into perfect circles. Let them cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet to firm up. 7. **Enjoy**: Once the senbei have cooled completely, you can savor the savory and umami flavors of these Tokyo-style Tsujiura Senbei with miso and sesame oil. They make a delightful savory snack! These savory Tsujiura Senbei offer a wonderful blend of umami from the miso and the nutty richness of sesame oil, all with a savory twist from the soy sauce. Perfect for those who prefer a savory treat! According to IA
I didn't know fortune cookies had lucky numbers on them because here in Germany where I live one side of the paper has a german text and the other side has the same text just in english
This was a fun vid like I can tell that the style of it is kind of imitating Vox videos where it ties in the history of the subject with what’s happening in the world at the time but the chronology of it was so confusing and all over the place. It should’ve gone from past to present and then had some sort of conclusion as to where the fortune cookie came from.
That guy has a great narrator voice
Mike Rotch a vocal fry isnt bad though?
