I never use built in webcams, they look crappy. I always use an external if I need one anyway.
Regardless, its kinda of stupid not adding a webcam. Having that most classes and meeting are going through a web conference, am sure a lot of people passed on this one...
Most ppl that can afford this kind of laptop need it. I meant unless u r a rich kid man.

To fix the VR issues make sure you’re connecting your headset to the display port capable usb C port since that one is directly wired to the GPU. You may need to get a dongle tho
I do think it's worth noting, while the lack of thunderbolt 3 is a big downside, you still have a USB-C port with Displayport 1.4, so you can still get away with an adapter that has tons of USB ports and multiple display outputs. Granted, not as much as a crazy thunderbolt dock and it's waste if you're already in that ecosystem, but you can still get a surprising amount of stuff plugged into one port.
The problem with the VR is that for some AMD laptops, the integrated graphics is being used instead of the dedicated graphics which explains the "lagginess." To fix this you'll have to manually set some files to run with the dedicated graphics card. There should be some tutorials in youtube. I don't know why it does this but hope that helps! (Should work for the Strix G17 too!)
See the usb c port on the left of the g 14 is directly wired to the GeForce graphics, at least it is like this on the 2020 g14 that I have, so I don’t think that’s the issue, but I haven’t personally tried vr ever to debug this
@@agni1962 I’m aware of that but even the Legion 5 (4800H + 2060) had that problem as well with its USB-C port. Might be related to AMD integrated graphics drivers.
or just enable dgpu mode
this. i had this same issue when i got my g14 but after forcing the program to use the dedicated gpu it ran flawlessly
I bought this exact model to use with my Quest 2... whoops 😳
J/k, it worked fine but the Oculus SW by default uses the iGPU. After fixing that, I played Alyx for the first time and it was awesome.
This should be pinned
pin this Dad
What do I do to fix it?
I used this with my quest wireless and works well
Thankyou for this info, I was disappointed I ordered this laptop then heard it doesn't play well with oculus. That's the primary reason I bought it.
Having said that I would like to know what you did to fix it.
Picked this laptop up a month ago and it’s easily the best laptop I’ve ever had in my life. You can actually work on it all day then game on it at night and it still works perfect. Gaming laptops I had in the past don’t compare.
How is the performance when unplugged?
@@Ifalvarado any gaming laptop can be set up to be used at 100% performance unplugged but your battery is going to die in 20 minutes so unplugged performance is not really something you measure on gaming laptops.
Most gaming laptops are done to be used pretty much like desktop laptops that you can move.
@@uy9572 Wrong. The performance will lower because of the wattage provided by the battery is much lower than the power bricks provided, for example, you have power bricks over the 150-200watt range that does full energy drive while batteries are much lower than 100 watt range; the Geforces will lower performance to match as what the battery provided along with the cpus. Their 3000 series has better energy efficiency, that and along with AMD processors, its a nice balance. I have a macbook pro 16 inch 5600m that is equivalent to the 2060 and it uses only 50 watts for the gpu alone at full performance.
Does this laptop get too hot while gaming? I read a few reviews like that and now im scared to buy it.
@@lisaskywalker8419 I got it a few weeks ago and as long as you have a cooling base it gets pretty much not hot at all you can play most games with the silent fan profile which prioritizes temperature over performance and even then most games will run perfectly at max graphics due to the amount of power it has. And even playing at turbo or performance it doesn't get much hotter
9:12 This seems to be more to do with Windows. Every PC laptop I have used will run the fans fast for a minute or so at a time while connected to power then cycle down and come back a little while later. It seems to have to do with background processes in Windows. The fans on my Razer laptop ramp up while the computer does not seem to be doing anything. Further investigation revealed that this was Windows Update running in the backdrop preparing an update.
I've only had it a few days and love it. Two things I don't care for are
1) The white backlight on the keyboard, wish it was literally any other color.
2) Boost Mode is FAST but damn is it loud and get hot. I've turned boost off in Performance and left it on for Turbo when I do actually demanding tasks
If you open the Nvidia control panel and choose to manage 3D settings, then choose your preferred graphics processor it seems to force the GPU to be used.. you can also change it from the Armory I believe. First laptop in 8 years and loving it!!
Got mine yesterday. What an absolute gem! One seriously needs to take the time to learn and configure the various features because there are a lot of them. Two major points here: a lot of thunderbolt docks will work with the usb-c ports and learning the ins and outs of the iGPU vs GTX are important. For office work, turn on the iGPU and put it in silent mode. The usb-c port ties directly to the GTX whereas the HDMI port doesn't.
how's the battery life? Might get one but I'm enjoying my macbook M2 battery life

Just bought this. Keys feel weird and I don't love the look, but the actual press of the keys is perfectly clean. Fan noise: I'm weird on this, I don't think silence is a good thing when the device is trying to tell you its roasting on the inside. However, the fan noise is pretty acceptable and won't embarrass you at the coffee shop. My overall: this thing is so darn SNAPPY. Updates? Blink and they're done. Open a window, BAM. Browsing the internet at 144 Hz is unbelievable too and hard to go back. The price is unbeatable and quite frankly, that much power for the price makes my own nit picks irrelevant. Buy it. Seriously, buy it. It will hold you over MORE THAN ENOUGH until the desktop parts are back in stock at MSRP.
Don't love the look of the KEYS. Laptop looks great 👌
Picked it up last week for 1300 with the specs: 5900HS 3060 16gb RAM 1TB SSD 1080p 144hz and it was the best deal ever!
Just got this exact model a couple of days ago. the best computer Ive personally have had lol. so far so great, I love everything about it. I had a HP envy for 3 years which treated me well but this just blows it out of the water. If you want the quality of making your own rig but willing to expend a little more dash for the luxury of a laptop. This is what you’re looking for
I had the same vr issues with the G15. I found it worked when I plugged it into an external display and reset it... I was told that remove the Optimus issues?... That defeats the purpose of having a mobile VR setup, but that's what I got to work.
I find the USB C with DP support adequate for my needs in minimising the number of cables that go into my g14 since most normal USB C hubs do provide most of my IO needs at a much cheaper price than thunderbolts. But I guess it does suck if you already invested in thunderbolt accessories.
Yeah its good unless you already have that ecosystem built up.
8:27 absolutely!
Your laptop Reviews are next level
Careful Gary, you're on a slippery slope. First you give up on SD slots, next you'll be doing 24fps and shouting it from the roof😂
Its always the slipperiest of slopes 😂
I mean. Tbh most people don't use SD card slots and imo it's fine to remove the sd card slot from laptops. I can't remember the last time I used it on a laptop and most of the people who ik don't use it much either. It's only a problem for content creators who often need to transfer footage from their camera but like that's definitely a minority, and if you happen to be a part of that minority, just use a donglr

I picked up this laptop as well and I love it. I use it mainly to edit my drone vids on the go. I love the feel of it too. pair this with a logitechg604 mouse and it's a beast for on the go gaming as well.
Me to man, I have it hooked up to a 24" 144hz 1080p IPS display and I would even go as far to say it's also a beast for being your main gaming PC at home. Especially (according to Linus tech tips) what the average gamer is using right now, a GTX 980 or similar.
Hope you enjoy it as much as I have!! Congrats 🙂
I have the G14 2020 version, still holding on to it and easily one of my favorite laptops to use for everything from gaming to productivity. Still use an M1 Mac for Final Cut Pro, but the G14 is definitely the go to machine for best overall value. Very tempted in getting the 2021 though but I need to pay for double pane windows in the next few months. 😅

I was on the fence with this and the m15 during the bestbuy sale. I still have a week left to return it and your video just made my trigger finger itch for a return.
Laptop of the year IMO
I've had thunderbolt 3 on many of my machines and honestly even as a creator I rarely use its funcationality. They usb c with PD and display port works great and NO creator of any size is editing or transcoding on a laptop. Unless you are away from your production environment. This is also partially why Thunderbolt 4 implementation stalled for so long. A lack of interest.
I’m getting this laptop to open up Word on it.
I'm thinking of upgrading to this for making my videos, so thank you for this review
yeah its pretty good.
If you had to read the spec sheet to notice that there is no webcam, there is no need for a webcam. For Zoom meetings any phone on a tripod has better quality then 720p webcam garbage anyway.
IMO the two biggest downsides are lack of USB4/TB and Ethernet. The G15 has an Ethernet port but then it's much bigger and lacks a PrnScr key for whatever insane reason.
I am going to buy Zephyrus G14 (RTX3060, AMD Ryzen9 5900hs, 16gb RAM) in six days. Actually I have already ordered it. It's so nice to hear all of those good things about my future laptop. But I am worried about one thing. It's about its screen. Is 14'' too small for gaming? I am going to use it mainly for gaming because I have another one to work.
Looking forward for your answer. Robert, Russia.
p.s.: Your pronunciation is so good that I am watching this without any subtitles (not a native-speaker) ;)
How is 14” for gaming? Have you considered an external monitor? It gives more FPS.
virtual desktop for quest 2 vr works perfectly with the same spec, have you tried that? plus you don't need a cable or to tinker with any bitrates or adjustments? works perfect for me on the same laptop here
Indeed. Actually, it's the only way I could use the Quest 2 on this very laptop. Oculus Link does not work, no matter what I do (manual GPU selection, disabling iGPU, connecting via WiFi, trying different USB ports and cables). SteamVR runs like a charm, without any additional configuration though.
I think u must try hp envy 13,14 ,15 they will also compete with dell XP’s as it has dedicated graphic card
Just bought one for gaming, after a decade and a half on a Mac. Xbox app won’t open, the audio glitches and lags behind the video, all updates are the latest and did all the troubleshooting. Even reset my whole laptop. Suddenly remembered why I left windows.

My 2021 G14 has been great, but mine is lava hot during gaming sessions. Performance is largely stable, and I'm not getting any reported throttling though. Area specifically on the status lights has got to be well north of 120F - burn hot. I've seen mixed results here - you are saying yours doesn't get that hot? Perhaps this is a relative statement - can you touch and hold your finger on the status light area during games?
same problem here. it gets too hot that its unbearable
Try reducing the TDP on the CPU in a way that you will not lose performance in games and undervolt your GPU in order for it to heat up less. You can also slightly underclock your GPU and undervolt it further.
Same thing here on 2 different systems.
Good video.
There are Non-Thunderbolt USB-C docks out there that work well for people who want to have a single-cable dock solution and don't already have a Thunderbolt dock. I have a Lenovo ThinkPad branded powered dock that is USB-C that works well with my non-Thunderbolt laptops, and I've got a KB, mouse, trackball, webcam, ethernet, headset, and two monitors hooked up to it. It provides enough power to the laptop as well.
Of course if I needed to use accessories that take advantage of the TB bandwidth I can't do that. However I personally don't. If I had a setup that revolved around TB3 and wasn't compatible with standard USB-C then it'd be really inconvenient, so I can understand that frustration.
you should try the ausu tuff 17 it rules and its even gota webcam and thunderbolt 4 as well as pcie 4 inside alone with a second nvme that is pcie 3x4 and gamming is awesome on it
Asus gives you an app to use your phone's camera as the webcam. I'll just use my Fuji as my web came for the times I need it. :)
I hear you on the Thunderbolt 3, I'm just as disappointed because my docking station will not work with it.
However, I find that I'm always trying to talk myself out of liking it and just upgrading my desktop, but I can't help it, I just love this little machine in spite of its flaws. Of course the one issue I have, that you left out, is the location of the exhaust fan ports... I get playing an FPS for an hour or two and that side port starts roasting my mouse hand! So, the places you touch the laptop isn't too bad, but that mouse hand, boy does that get toasty!
Anyway, this really is the most well balanced Laptop on the market! Neither the RTX 3060, nor the 5900HS bottleneck each other. Also, 1080P for a 14" Laptop is damn near perfect so everything looks sharp and clean.
Asus Zephyrus G14 vs Razer Blade 15 ?
Razer laptops have stuck to intel for long. If your work flow doesn’t specifically require intel, G14 is a good choice. Better power efficiency and multicore score for ~$400 less (depends on respective configurations of course)
Edit: Lack of webcam sucks though
Depends on your requirements .If you want mobility and no desire of upgrading hardware such as RAM and SSD.G14 might be your top priority. If not ,please go for another .
i like this laptop with that specs and size, but no webcam is def a deal breaker for me :(
Lol webcam much?
It is very silly for the number of sales Asus are likely to lose. I can't believe the people on here saying Webcam quality is an issue! It's for meetings! You don't need HDR, 4K FFS!
You can always buy an external one or use your phone with a webcam, it’s not that hard.
Why are you nagging on about the thunderbolt when the usb c port has almost the same speed today???
I use an envyx x360 4700u with hps thunderbolt dock but it still supports usb c also. 3 external monitors, 4 usb ports, audio and network and of course charging. I haven't looked up the g14s usb c spec but I wouldn't be surprised if it has an even faster port
still worth grabbing a used one for 900€? I got a pretty neat one available I could buy
How is the keyboard getting hot going for you?
Though we enjoyed our collection of VHS tapes, cassettes tapes, DVDs, etc, at some point you have to stop buying new items with the old tech thats supported less and less by the day. Dodging USB-A and Micro-USB is completely worth it. The experience of having my two USB-C monitors connected to my XPS 9500 via USB-C/TB3, which is wirelessly connected to my (cheap) USB-C & BT5 mouse, and a Keychrone K1 (love that thing) cements "my move forward already" perspective to people buying new items since 2020 with either a USB-A or Micro-USB port or connector only, when there are USB-C, USB4, or TB3/4 alternatives.
USB-A is not dying any time soon
I just ordered mine. I’m a apple person, but I needed a top gaming laptop in windows platform. This is it. Great review. Question. You used the Cinebench to test CPU, what do you use to test the GPU’s ?
Hi, 3D max is a good benchmarking tool
Love the videos!!! Would you recommend the G14 over the G15?
I mean, it's completely up to personal preference, g15 will give you better performance and a larger screen

Did you change any settings to do not have any problems with your CPU temperature during LONG workloads? I have G15 and with that I got a lot of problems with overheating, the thing just randomly goes asleep when cpu gets to 95C. @2:25 OK, so I haven't had to buy a laptop in a decade and I have been pretty confused about USB-C (PD and DP over USB C) vs Thunderbolt. From what I understood was that the TB licensing is only intel, but I should still be able to get all the benefits bar an egpu. I actually just bought this laptop and have it hooked to my Dell W19TB Dock and I am getting dual 144hz 1440p monitor output with all my peripherals working off the dock. What kind of issues did you run into because I want to make sure I didnt miss anything before I make my decision on keeping this.
I'm over a year late, but Thunderbolt has a specific spec that is proprietary to Intel that many docking stations use exclusively. There's no working around it. Some super high end Ryzen motherboards costing $500 and up have it, but that's about it.
That said, USB4 and Thunderbolt 4 are one and the same so going forward AMD laptops will have USB4 and connect to Thunderbolt docks just fine.

(3:10)I find pc vr with oculus a awful experience. I got a Ryzen 3700x and RTX 2070 super. Launching oculus home eats up memory and performance and booting up to steam vr eats up all my memory on graphics card. I kinda get around this by launching apps outside steam vr and directly to game but I still lose performance and memory due to oculus home running in background. First fix would be get rid of oculus home and use quests built in OS to launch PC vr stuff. Oculus showed a ux design to do this but never implemented it.
What was your experience like off the wall with battery life? Also what are your thoughts on the trackpad?
It has a great battery life, but like all laptops performs worse on battery power. The trackpad is on the smaller end because of the dedicated playback keys and armory crate shortcut on top cutting down on space at the bottom
Still torn between this and the 2021 razer blade 15
I would probably go ASUS unless you wanted VR support.
@@TheEverydayDad Thank you, I don't care about VR or the webcam really. Just wanted something good for school and programming. I have a Mac Mini M1 at home.
Thanks man, Talking about this portable killer
I just got this laptop for a stupid good deal…… I’m wondering if it should replace my m1 MacBook Air 256gb
Does the lid have LED tax like doesn’t light up?
This works great with vr... I use vr daily so maybe change nvidia settings?
Can you please try to play competitive shooter like Csgo with external monitor and tell us that is there any delay or lag with the response!
Stores in my country sells it with an extrenal WebCam.
this laptop vs rog strix g15 with the same specs, which will be better?
This vs XPS 15 9500 - which one would you recommend for content creators (graphic and video editing)?
XPS9500 much better screen.
I'm not concerned about webcam at all. the laptop is mainly for gamers and content creators. other companies should learn to cut the cost this way. Dell is extremely costly bc of they try put everything in one laptop which tbh is not possible. Asus thrives at providing a bang for the buck.
G14 or G15? How bad is it to run an asynchronous ram set up with the soldered ram?
G14 for portability, G15 for raw performance (if you are an extreme power user and if you want a better high refresh rate screen). G15 has better cooling as well.
@@one_step_sideways but like isn't G15 itself ultra portable? That's where i'm confused.
@@PasserbyP G15 is a laptop, yes, but it's heavier and bigger. 14" laptops generally fit into backpacks very well, but 15" laptops are either a tight fit (especially if you put the laptop in a carrying bag or a carrying sleeve to make sure it's safe in the backpack), or are only to be carried in a separate bag, which is a hassle. 14" laptops can also generally be handled with one hand, especially thin&light ultrabooks. But the components need to be shrunk down because there is little space to work with, so something like the G14 only has a 60W Nvidia RTX 3060 GPU, which is obviously going to be slower than on a bigger laptop that can house bigger cooling, like the Lenovo Legion 5 that has like a 130W TDP for the RTX 3060 versions.
My issue with the G14 comes squarely down to pricing. So this goes for $1500. The G15 which is pretty much superior in every way goes for 1750. As I intend to use my laptop on a plane once that's a thing, that's why I was looking into this, but I think for the relative pricing, g15 is a no brainer. This would be a better value at like 1300ish (I mean it would be amazing around $1000 but it just came out, I think $1300 is fair for the form factor).
The issue is that this is 2000 in europe and the 1660 ti is still fucking 1500 here. I'm buying one for 1150 second hand cuz of this bullshit pricing. Disgusting man
Just picked up this model of the G14 for around 1000 bucks. It's killer at that price.
Is thundorbolt dock stations totaly useless with this model or can i still use usb a ports ?
