      I agree. I've been in the health and nutrition field for about 20 years and I'm amazed how much stuff has surfaced recently how we have been lied to on pretty much everything......seed oils, LDL cholesterol, and so much more. I'm to the point now if the FDA approves an additive or something like that I do the opposite and avoid it. If they say LDL is bad for you, nope it's good for you, etc.

    If the amount of time someone has sat in a dentists chair was a measure of dental experience I’d be a leading expert in the field. My teeth were already bad to begin with since I was a teenager, but then years of vegetarianism and a few years of veganism ruined my teeth, and I paid for it dearly; rampant tooth decay, half a dozen root canals, extractions, infections, abscesses, antibiotics, complex and extensive dental caries, the list goes on .... going to the dentists became a course in torture, needles, freezing, pain, this went on for decades. Then I switched to a high cholesterol, high fat, high protein and high salt diet, and included supplements of fish oils and super mega doses of vitamin D3, about 50 drops (50 iu) per day. Within about three months ALL my dental pain suddenly disappeared, jaw pain, mandible and maxillary pain, cavity pain and generalized mouth pain stopped. Veganism was ok, for a while, for me, but it should have only been a temporary diet, not a long term activity.

    My husband and I recently began noticing gum and mouth irritation and dental hygenist said I had some stains and more plaque than usual so suggested a $1600 deep cleaning. I declined for the time being because I suspected something else was going on. Just recently heard a naturopath who said 'check your toothpastes, they're full of irritants and additives. She mentioned the following as causing problems, sure enough the toothpaste we had used for years had been changed recently and all of this was in it plus parabens in the mouthwash my husband was using. Some of these formulas change without notice and often we don't read the small print, but we sure will be doing that now. Here are some that she said to check for and Dr. Berg also mentioned:
    Sodium Laurel Sulfate: This is a foaming agent added only because people think if they see suds, that their teeth are being cleaned. As it turns out that quite a few people have outright allergies to this product and just as bad, can irritate your salvia ducts and it often stains the teeth; Glycerine: She said this was added because people want to run their tongue over their teeth and have that smooth feeling, but it is a waxy type substance that clings to the teeth, isn’t easily rinsed off or dissolved with saliva and bacteria can also cling to it; Artificial sweeteners: These are added for taste only and often they are ones found to not be safe. The toothpaste we were using had both saccharine and another artificial sweetener that we would never use but it was in our toothpaste we were using daily. Peroxide: this is a bleach and used as a whitener, but has been found to actually weaken enamel and is a gum irritant and can cause tooth sensitivity. Artificial colors: they tint some toothpaste green for example because the flavor is mint green and this is has no use to help dental health. Fluoride: A lot of people don't like it because it can be toxic but hard to find toothpastes these days without it.

    ❤Facts!!! ❤
    I only got cavities as a kid. As a teenager and now an adult I have no issues.
    When I go to the dentist they always comment on how active my salivary glands are while checking my teeth. I’ve been told (almost every time) that is why I don’t have cavities because saliva prevents tooth decay.
    I also love the recipe for toothpaste. I don’t use mouthwash and my breath is always fresh. I’ve used hydrogen peroxide as a “mouthwash” for decades, and once a week use coconut oil to swish around a bit for a couple minutes.
    Sharing this last part could get me hurt. I don’t really use toothpaste that much, I just brush with water. My wife uses lots of toothpaste and brushes several times a day. She has “chronic” halitosis. Killing all her natural prevention. Maybe if I make this toothpaste I can get her to switch.

    • @miguel30215
      @miguel30215 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Same. I only got cavities as a kid too and i would use toothpaste all the time. I don’t know why but i started brushing without toothpaste. I think it was because i was a bit lazy and just wanted to take a few quick seconds to brush off any plaque on my teeth instead of using tooth paste and rinsing it out of my mouth. Anyways, i guess months would go by and everything would be fine. Then i would think to myself, i probably should be using toothpaste. After a few days of using toothpaste, i could feel my teeth start to hurt, it really felt like i was getting cavities. Ive went back and forth from using toothpaste and stopping. Even though my mouth felt clean when i used toothpaste i realized it was making my teeth hurt. Ive been to the dentist and I’ve never had any cavities since I’ve stopped using toothpaste.
      So i pretty much just brush my teeth with water only now. Occasionally I’ll do oil pulling with coconut oil and floss when ever i eat anything sweet with sugar like candy, ice cream, etc. for a more thorough cleaning otherwise my gums/teeth will start to feel agitated. I never have this problem when i eat fruits though.

    Make sure you brush away from the gum line instead of across the teeth, your gums will say thank you!

Many people in these comments eventually just stick to oil pulling every day, and end up using any baking soda related toothpaste they made once a week. As they supposedly felt that baking soda was too strong. I assume you do morning and night? And, how often do you make it; do you make a bigger batch and store it in a sealed container in a cabinet, or even fridge, for a month? sorry if these questions seem bothersome, but not so many people out there make their own toothpaste or share in detail about it. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

    • @vickster4474

      @@Iog no problem. I only brush my teeth in the morning-personal preference all my life-I do a big batch and then put it in two mini silicone travel containers typically used for lotion. I use a recipe as follows: 4 tbsp each of baking soda and coconut, 1 tbsp of stevia sweetener, 20 drops of peppermint oil, 10 drops of real vanilla. I found I prefer peppermint over the clove/cinnamon. Mix all together and put in the containers. No fridge-I keep one in a drawer in the bathroom. Between both - one in use-one on hold- I usually only have to make up another batch about every three weeks or so. It took me about 2 weeks to get used to the abrasiveness of the baking soda and then I didn't notice anymore. I also use a soft toothbrush. My teeth and gums have never been better.

    • @Iog
      @Iog 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@vickster4474 That is very interesting how you felt the abrasiveness. The internet rates baking soda a 7 on the abrasive scale, compared to toothpaste which is usually a 20 to 70 in RDA ranking. In either case, for me it can be scary that the enamel doesn't regrow back. Ultimately the best thing to do is avoid sugar, which yes, for me is doable, but I am still a young lad who wants stuff my face with cookies at times. The remineralization is naturally done without fluoride, although it would take half the time. Personally I don't mind fluoride, might even use it as I get older, but it really is all the other stuff they bundle in with the toothpaste that puts me off.
      I have in the past used some baking soda
      in a cup of water to rinse, very diluted; so often times it does not come off as abrasive, but it was effective for getting food out, etc. I
      stopped using it because sometimes my eyes feel a bit irritated, and googling stuff about it leads to me believe that if I keep using it, my eyes could potentially acquire damage in the long run by any dust particles of it... so I guess I might have to be that dude who wears glasses or something handling
      it as if I was back in chemistry class... or just man up a bit. The oil stuff is really new to me, that is why I asked. Very informative response, thank you.
      So then, for me, I think what I will do, is perhaps try out a weekly batch amount to see if I like it, I will leave out the sweetener,
      peppermint oil, and vanilla flavourings... unless you think that stuff is essential is some ways. But ultimately I think, it will just be the coconut oil and baking soda. I might also lower the baking soda amount, to a ratio closer to 2:1, or 3:1 (coconut oil : baking soda), as I would mostly likely brush every morning and night; if I were to brush one
      time, it would probably be in the evening, as it would follow more closely to my after meal hours, and it wouldn't be immediately before lying down to sleep. Also, I think only-mornings do not make much sense personally, and for most people who eat 3 meals a day, as you would normally eat shortly after; meaning one's mouth is filled all day and night of those potentially lingering bacteria, only to get a short window of cleaning in the grand scheme of that 24 hr time frame. But that is just my thought process of it. If I feel any abrasiveness too strong for me, then I might reduce it to once a day as well for the evening, and gargling plain old water in the mornings I suppose. Or if the opposite, then I might consider doing a more even ratio, or in the future a mixture with a Dr Bronners herbal toothpaste, as out of all the toothpastes on the market, those seem the safest. Anyways, this was a long response, but hopefully I painted a clearer picture. It is something I will likely do for a very long time. I appreciate your input, and any following input you may have for me to look into. In either case, thanks.

    Not to dissuade anybody form using the coconut oil as a base, cause I've used this same recipe and it works very well. However, you need to be careful when spitting out the toothpaste as the coconut oil can eventually (will?) plug your drain. I ended up having to take the trap apart and found it completely plugged. None of the standard drain cleaners did much to help but once apart, the block of hardened coconut oil pulled right out.

    I have heard of many people that have only used sea salt or Celtic salt to brush their teeth their entire life's with no cavities or tooth, gum issues!

    I started using a holistic brand oral health’s tooth brushing essential and carrier oil blend. It has almond, peppermint, spearmint, and tea tree oil. It’s incredibly potent so I mix that with coconut oil. A couple of drops are viscous but with the added carrier oil, it feels great so far. I love the way my teeth feel.

    We stopped useing glycerine-based toothpaste, years ago, and began making a tooth powder consisting of: baking soda, bentonite clay powder, activated coconut shell charcoal, green black walnut hull powder, and sea salt. (Sometomes ground clove powder.)
    btw~ propylene glycol is also a vä$$íne ingredient, for years.

    When I was a child I knew something was wrong, I had cavities almost constantly despite frequent brushing. In my child-mind I boiled it down to abrasives in tootpaste giving bacteria a place to hide and nest. Stopped using toothpaste around 12, am now in 30s, I just brush twice daily, thoroughly. Been cavity free since. These days I also brush with some baking soda as well. Toothpaste is one of the harder ones to convince people that they don't actually need, when folk hear my story they look at me like I'm some kind of freak and expect my breath to smell bad.

      What do you mean?
      You dont use any paste at all of some kinds?
      Only brushing with water & tootbrush?
      There is a tree in middle east & africa that people still to this day use to brush their teeth, because it contains something that cleans the teeth and prevents cavities, i daresay it was fluoride but i could be wrong.
      But this was what ppl used in the olden days to remove bad smell & clean mouth, it's called "miswak" the tree toothbrush

    I want to try this. A couple of possibly dumb questions: 1. Do we use fractionated coconut oil or regular coconut oil. 2. The cinnamon or cloves.......essential oils or regular oils? I have clove oil in my food pantry right now - not an essential oil.

    I used the commercial stuff growing up. Root canals were the result. I knew it had to stop. Since stopped the bad stuff, I don't have to have cavities. Oil pulling is everything🙂. Sadly, those lost teeth are lost. Root canals don't last. When we know better, we do better. Thank you, Dr. Berg.

      I just started oil pulling and its difficult lol do you think doing it twice a day for 5 minutes each is good? Also, which benefits have you experienced with oil pulling. Annnd I've just started it like a couple days ago and I'm getting headaches, is that normal?

    • @chellybabyme
      @chellybabyme 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rainnnnnn372 yes. It was definitely difficult to do it for 15 minutes the first time. I was like, no way. But just do it a little longer each time so 5 minutes is totally fine. You'll get used to it and you can do it a little longer. Make sure you rinse out your mouth with clean water afterwards. I actually use spring bottled water to avoid the chlorination it's not that wasteful because I don't need that much. The best benefit is that I just don't get cavities now.

    • @chellybabyme
      @chellybabyme 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rainnnnnn372 Oh and about the headache, I'm not a doctor or anything, but I heard that you could be detoxing because oil pulling not only cleans your teeth but it does pull toxins out of your mouth so it could make you feel bad for a while. I didn't have that experience, but I guess you could Google something like oil pulling headache.

    My great grandma brushed her teeth with baking soda and rinsed with peroxide. She lived to 85, never had a cavity and died with all of her original teeth. I'm going to try this recipe. I've brushed with just baking soda, but my mouth didn't feel "minty"... so in my mind my mouth wasn't clean enough. I do rinse with peroxide once in a while though. Would pepper mint oil be beneficial?? I really like the minty feeling. Lol.

    The dentist recommended pastes like Colgate total also have other ingredients that I'm guessing r equally risky like titanium dioxide, titanium dioxide coated mica, sodium carboxylmethyl cellulose, zinc citrate trihydrate, tetradodium, poloxamer 407 n Cl 74260 n 47005 whatever that means!! If thers any suggestions on any paste please tell 🙏
    Also if u can do a video on pastes that r good in yr opinion.. watching many videos n have some names. Even ordered eg Eco dent which is a baking soda powder with other ingredients.. hoping its good. My dentist only suggests Colgate total!
