Fun Fact: The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, and Thor all take place roughly during the same week-often a surprising fact because this is never explicitly stated in the films.

I loved Loki’s character from this movie on and he was one of the few characters in my eyes over the 14 years that took a giant huge 180 arc in his development as a person and as a God…uh I can’t wait for you guys to dive deep not only into Loki but the dynamic that formed who the brothers became. Those two honestly are the reason why Thor became so beloved.

If you ever watch again, when Odin shows up to take Thor away from starting a war, Oden wasn't just on a horse, he was on Sleipnir, his 8 legged horse. Also Thursday is technically Thors day as it was originally. 👍

While making Iron Man 2, Clark Gregg asked the producers what’s in New Mexico and they told him Thor, nobody told you? You’re going to be in Thor, so he was excited that he was going to interact with Thor, as well as share a scene with Jeremy Renner, who had an uncredited role as Clint Barton aka Hawkeye. In this movie, we are also introduced to Agent Jasper Sitwell and Lady Sif, which both would appear in Agents of SHIELD

Yes, this is based on old Norse myth, the trope of "gods are really just powerful aliens". I do find it amusing that MCU Thor's weaknesses are tasers and THOR-azine :P
So in Norse myth, Loki is actually Thor's uncle, and is the God of Mischief, playing pranks and getting himself and others into trouble. He is a practiced illusionist and shapeshifter, and he has several children, most notably the Fenris wolf, Jormungandr the World Serpent, and Hel, half-alive and half-dead rule of, well, Hel, the realm of the dishonored dead.
Thor is married to Sif, who has beautiful blonde hair, which Loki shaves off as a prank. Thor is so enraged by this he's about to beat Loki to a pulp, when the Æsir (the gods) stop him and demand that Loki make up for his transgression. He enlists some dvergr (dwarves) to fashion several gifts for the gods, including a wig of pure gold for Sif, and the mighty hammer Mjolnir for Thor, although due to a flaw in its forging it cannot be wielded with his full strength unless he is wearing the Jarngreipr (Iron-grip) gauntlets with the Megingjordr (Belt of Giant Strength). And yes, the hammer returns to his hand when thrown, and is able to kill giants by the score.
In my favorite myth, Thrymr, king of the Jotun (regular giants, the frost and fire giants generally stayed in their respective realms of Niflheim and Muspellheim), managed to sneak into Asgard and steal Mjolnir. In order to get it back, he demanded the hand of Freyja, Queen of the Valkyrie and most beautiful of the Æsir, in marriage. She obviously refused, but Loki came up with a plan; to dress Thor up as Freyja in a wedding gown with a veil to hide his identity, present him as her, whereupon he could seize Mjolnir and lay waste to Thrymr's host, which is EXACTLY what happened. The video game Smite pays tribute to this myth with the Valkyrie Bride skin for Thor, wedding dress and all lol
There is a ton more, but space is limited :P I highly recommend reading up on Norse myths, they're great fun, much more so than Christian myths :P

Fun Fact: Thor and Odin aren't just Norse God's. They were originally Gemanic God's and were worshipped by all Germanic tribes I believe.
The Anglo-Saxons (old english) used to believe in them. Odin was Woden. Thor was Thunor (I think that meant thunder), but as most of the Germanic tribes converted to Christianity. The Norse were the last to keep the "old gods" so that's why many refer to them as Norse God's. I am unsure if any other norse God is actually Germanic

The pantheon of gods from Norse Mythology parallels both Greek and Roman mythology with some caveats. It would have been helpful if you both had a mild understanding of Norse mythology before watching this movie. Basically, Thor is the God of Thunder, Loki the God of Mischief. In Norse mythology, Loki brings about Ragnarok (the apocalypse of Asgard) by distracting Heimdall (the bridge keeper) and allowing the frost giants to attack. There are many small story lines in this mythos, but basically Thor and Loki are intertwined as both brothers and enemies. Loki, is not bad, just full of mischief. He's a pot stirrer, unable to see the future consequences of his actions. Once you get through EndGame, I recommended you watch the Disney+ series Loki (seasons 1 and 2). Its one of the best Marvel productions.

Great reaction - this is one of my favorite MCU films - I see the comments already mention our days of the week are named after these gods - the Marvel comics take this lore in various directions, adding a kind of Shakespearean speech to these characters - this film looks so much like the Jack Kirby illustrations - but Thor especially could so easily have ended up ridiculous onscreen - brilliant of MCU to hire Branagh, famous for reviving popular interest in Shakespeare, to make this material click w a modern movie audience
    - he strikes just the right balance, using the right touch of romance and fish-out-of-water humor to keep the epic Thor accessible
    - it looks like he's using the Henry IV plays as a model for Thor's development - Branagh himself played Henry V in his acclaimed directorial debut, and here we see Thor as a similarly young and wayward Prince Hal, scolded by his ailing father, who's trying to prepare his prodigal son for the throne
    - and Branagh also played the infamous Iago to Fishburne's Othello, and here he posits Loki as a similar figure, mercurial and inscrutable, manipulating the trust that others invest in him - we also see traces of Edmund from King Lear, the jealous bastard son of Gloucester, seeking to sabotage his more favored sibling - in the Norse myths, Thor and Loki have a similarly varied relationship, sometimes allies, sometimes at each other's throats
    - the two leads were unknown, but were so brilliantly cast here that they went on to enormous popularity - Iron Man was very successful, but Thor was a major challenge to get right - IMO Branagh's Thor is the movie that truly launched the MCU, proving that the first film's success was no fluke, and establishing the momentum of the MCU
    - their winning formula starting out was to take maverick independent directors, and graft their film-making personas onto each iconic character, to give each hero's franchise its own "personality" - so Favreau made Iron Man a screwball comedy; Branagh made Thor into pop Shakespeare; Rocketeer's Johnston will make Captain America a 40s style WW2 cliffhanger; and Whedon will try to weave these genre styles together into a single film when all these heroes meet

Anyone can lift Thor's hammer if they're worthy of his power and responsibility. M'jolnir is sentient weapon with access to the Odin Force. The odin force is the source of Odin's powers. That's why Odin fell into a coma. Once a year Odin has to recharge his power and fall into a deep sleep to charge his power within the odin Force but because of the threat of war with the frost Giants he put it off which drove him into a coma. The casket of ancient Winters has a forever Storm that can freeze a planet. It is not the same as the tesseract or cosmic cube. The new arc reactor Tony Stark built in Iron Man 2 is a synthetic element of the cosmic energy of the tesseract. When Odin had the tesseract before leaving in Germany he used the cube to build the bifrost.

@@Tom-Mac1975 I didn't mean it in a literal sense, just in the title (that's on me, I should've specified better). I was never officially studying Norse Mythology, but I hyperfixated on it for a while when I was a kid and memorized a bunch of random facts about it(especially Loki and Hela).
Laufey gave birth but was still male, and so was considered (at least recently) as both "father" and "mother", whereas Farbauti was only father. In the Marvel comics they play with this idea by simply having all the Jötuns be male with the ability to both sire and give birth to children(the fictional version of "intersex"), but they very rarely actually have kids (and in some universes Loki's birth was a miracle because of low fertility and in others he was shunned for being too small). Loki is also considered intersex and agender in the comics as he's constantly shape-shifting and doesn't really care much about pronouns(my favorite screenshot I have is a part of a comic where someone asked him and Loki straight-up said "I identify as a bitch" and it was absolutely hilarious).

Tuesday is named for Tyr (Tiw in Germanic mythology). Tyr was never seen in the MCU, but he did appear in the comics.

You're so adorably clueless about the MCU, it's a real joy to watch this reaction series. Please try to stay clear of any spoilers! ❤

The marvel Thor is based off the Norse Pagan God. He's the protector of humans and is often associated with thunder and lightning. Thor is also a Pagan God in Germanic and anglo-saxon paganism but goes by different names Donar or Thunor respectively.

Part II 😁 Bottom Line Loki killed his Father! Nobody really verbalizes that fact! I only now noticed when Thor asked Loki about going home and Loki said "YOUR Mother has forbidden it"!! I Bow to All involved! 🕊️☮️

All these characters earned their hero status through suffering and evolving unlike the heroes marvel portrays today especially the female ones

Loki is neither good or evil. He is both.
He actually loves his mother and father but he's jealous of his brother Thor because he was the golden child whom was given everything.
He's like Blade, Deadpool, just more selfish and arrogant.

The jealousy just took over!! i have a feeling we will see more of his character along this MCU journey! He is complex and interesting!!

I get that this Thor is MCU based but I really want a realistic Thor. A big chunky red haired guy that loved to drink, wrestle, feast, with a fatass Ego 😂😂

Up until the end of Avengers End Game the Hulk is considered one of the worst of the MCU movies. After that it begins to go a downhill but even then there were only a couple of bad movies

Please keep in mind that sometimes things get changed in the MCU. So, the end credit scenes do not always make sense later on. This is a prime example for those changes. In the Avengers this plot continues but in a slightly different matter.
The thing with Loki is that he works as a villain only when you see him one dimensional. If you know his lore, the Norse mythology, this is not really possible. He is more of an Antihero. Loki is complicated and utterly complex.
I always find it fascinating that people 100% believe it when Sif says, he was always jealous of Thor. And later use this to legitimize that the friend group goes to bring back Thor. But this is just her point of view.
However, from a ruler’s perspective, this is wrong. It's like Loki says: Thor is a potential threat to the peace with Jotunheim. Even when he wouldn't have been responsible for the first incident, he couldn't have let him come back immediately. So, when Sif and company are going against Loki's explicit orders, they're in fact destabilising the authority of the king.
But, because this is a comic book adaptation, it is the right thing to do and everything is just and good...

Thor is arguably the best mcu character. His character development has been great.
I teared up when he said " forgive me Jane".
He knew he couldn't meet her. Yet he sacrificed his love for the greater good.

"Sacrificed his love for the greater good" wow that is so true and perfectly said!!!! Plus comparing his character to the beginning of the film, where he was more selfish and full of his ego. LOVE the development! We cannot wait to see what happens next! Thanks for watching with us :)
