Tom gave such a good performance in this film. I love the emotional weight he brought to it, and how serious they took the moments between the brothers. It was an interesting relationship to explore.
The way he says “I could’ve done it Father!” At the end 🤌 mamma Mia the range, he sounds just like a kid/teen, totally vulnerable and Odin can’t put down his pride even when his own son is dangling over the abyss, fuck me up with that good pathos
My thoughts on Loki's motivations (nerd essay): Loki is like a kicked puppy lashing out -- notice that he's crying at least three times in the movie. He's an emotional dude. There's that angry, resentful part of him that does Bad Shit, and a wounded inner child that just wants love and approval. The angry and jealous part wanted to be king, while the wounded inner child part DID want Thor to consider him an equal (and be less arrogant). The elephant in the room is that Odin was a really bad father, openly showing his favoritism. Loki formed this deeply painful inner question, why am I not good enough? Like, what's wrong with me? Why doesn't my dad seem to love me? Thor was not emotionally intelligent enough to notice how big a problem this was. Loki desperately wants Odin's love, and he considers himself Odin's son even when he finds out he was adopted. He orchestrates the assassination attempt (his bio father killing his adopted father) so that he can be seen by Odin 1) murdering his bio father, clearly choosing Odin as his dad 2) saving Odin, gaining himself his dad's approval (and political legitimacy). I would say he attempts to destroy Jotunheim so that he can completely erase that which makes him different from his adopted family and not good enough for his father. He can't make himself not a frost giant, so it's almost the next best thing. When he's dangling off the bridge, he says to his dad basically, "look what I did! for you! do you love me now?" Then Odin says "No, Loki," because he has the EQ of a pineapple and doesn't know how to say "I love you, but you're doing a bad thing right now." What Loki hears is, "No, Loki, I don't love you." So Loki chooses to let go of trying to gain his father's approval, and I don't think he knows if he'll survive, but in that moment he feels ready to die. :/
Agree except for the kidnapping part. He'd been abandoned because he was not wanted (I'm assuming because he was too small for a frost giant) like in ancient times, and would have died if left there
There is something wrong with all of you. You don’t get to make that excuse for people that do horrible things just because you had a bad childhood does not mean that you are not in charge of your actions. If you watch the TV show, that is literally what they’re teaching him that he still made those choices whether or not he was sad or hurt he still made those choices that were wrong. You don’t get to say I had a bad childhood every time you do something wrong. Everyone has been through some thing. Loki is just a baby that won’t talk to who really hurt him and takes it out on everyone else. Thor did nothing to Loki. In fact he loves Loki. Was he blind to where his father was doing? Yes, but that’s also because he idolized his father too. So if Loki would’ve talked to him instead of trying to murder him, things would’ve been different. Stop trying to make him seem like the victim. Also, I guess you didn’t watch that movie because he wasn’t kidnapped. They left Loki to die. He wasn’t a big enough, frost giant. So they were perfectly fine with him dying. Oden saved his life. I love how it’s great when Loki makes political strategies, but when Odin wants to bring their two worlds together with his son, then that’s a problem. Which Loki didn’t even look at the opportunity this gave him of how much power he would have of being the bridge between two worlds. He was too focused on revenge. Also, let’s not forget his revenge got his mom killed him the second one. Stop defending him.
See...I'm actually on Loki's side for like the entire time. Apart from when he kills the Frost Giants and when sends the Destroyer to Earth. Like, didn't he have a point? and prove it? Thor wasn't ready. All he wanted was to be a warrior, and he wasn't capable (at that time) to be a peaceful ruler. If Loki hadn't escalated it (though Odin and Frida should have told Loki who he is and not have fucking monster bedtime stories about his people) after Thor was banished, i think his scheme would have went perfectly.
Loki has always been really interesting as a character. He grew up with all of the racism against the Jotunn (frost giants). “They’re all evil monsters, etc” Think of it like Americans to the Japanese right after WWII. He was looked down upon because he relied on magic. It always seemed to me that before he has his breakdown Loki was always the more diplomatic one (sneaky get the best out of any situation type) and Thor was the warrior. Then when trying to prove that Thor is not ready yet (he wasn’t), he finds out that he is one of the “monsters” he was told horror stories about and was only taken from jotunheim to be a political tool. The way I interpreted it was that he thinks it’s because he is jotunn that his father never loved him or respected him and that he needs to kill his birth father (the king of jotunheim) and destroy where he came from to prove that he is not “one of the monsters”. That he is choosing his adoptive home over the place that he came from. When he is hanging from the bridge and the father that he chose over the one he just killed rejects him, he accepts that nothing he would ever do is enough for Odin and he lets go (I’ve always taken this as him giving up on life). As a note this is completely f’d up and he needs a ton of therapy. Also Odin is not a good father or person. How could he raise a kid to hate his own race. Did he think Loki would never find out? It’s an interesting parallel between Thor, who starts as a violent prideful dick who learns humility and restraint, and Loki who starts as a mischievous younger brother that just wants to be acknowledged and then goes through a complete mental breakdown and has his entire sense of self stripped away who becomes a villain. 1. That wig is amazing. I thought it came with the costume. You got skills 2. Its painful to wait for the MCU reactions this long but its always worth it 3. To answer your question, and this is my own observation. Loki must've realized that he's somehow different. Im guessing Odin probably treated him a little bit different compared to Thor. So Loki becomes Jealous and insecure. His wants to be treated equally has a base but not because Odin or Thor dont care about him. He's too busy swimming around in his own anger
Fun Fact: Odin and Thor were originally Germanic Gods. There names were Wodan (Odin) and Thunor (Thor). These are the Anglo-Saxon spelling. So basically they are the gods our ancestors would have worshipped. And King Charles is a "direct descendant of Odin" according to Anglo-saxon chronicles😂 The reason why many call them "Norse Gods" is that the Norse were the last Germanic tribe to keep to the old gods. The rest had converted to Catholicism.
Tom Hiddleston really ATE THIS ROLE UP that up to now he is still the most compelling MCU villain ever (simply because Thanos was bungled in End Game) at least for me.
44:04 “We’re not holding on to Loki. You all can fuck off.” Now, Brad. That is my husband you’re talking about. 😂 I’ll catch hubby ❤ As soon as I saw the thumbnail I cracked up. I loved this so much, can’t wait for The Avengers reaction 😅
Stanley started all of this the month. I was born in 1961 and he quickly became the number one promoter of comic books. He’s a pretty decent writer. He knows how to do story arcs for characters. and he did recognize talent in the artists and then other writers who was constantly trying to create cartoons and TV shows and movies and anything to promote the marvel brand. He was an incredible salesman. He had all of us buying his product. It’s just wonderful he got to see all these movies, his legacy is now fixed in the firmament of human creativity. He is now in the pantheon of the gods of the imagination.
Loki’s core issue (the feeling inferior part) is very understandable. But that’s where he gets a bit (a lot) misguided, which is where you had trouble following. Asgard in the past, as we see in the flashback at the beginning of this movie and again in later movies, was very focused on war and conquest. And while Odin has now kind of turned his back on that, Thor is still very much focused on proving himself that way. Since in Loki’s eyes, Odin heavily favors Thor, Loki thinks that if he is more like his brother, he will receive the same amount of love and attention from their father, not realizing that is the exact behavior Odin doesn’t want to see in either of his sons. Then, of course, Loki learns that he’s adopted, and not in the “we want another child and love you so much" kind of way, but as a bargaining tool and a trophy. That messes him up mentally (understandably so, he's literally been lied to by both of his parents for over a thousand years), and he goes kind of crazy. He now finally knows why he could never be as good as Thor and thinks that by destroying Jotunheim and killing every frost giant, he can kill two birds with one stone: one, do his father a favor and slaughter his enemies which will make him be like Thor so could make Odin love him, and two, prove that he's not one of the "monsters" but his allegiance is fully with Asgard, who are the people he grew up with, not the ones who birthed and abandoned him. Has plan backfires majorly tho because he didn't account for Thor coming to stop him and for Odin to wake up only to tell him "no, Loki", which Loki interprets as "you're not good enough and you never will be, I'm disappointed in you, I will never love you as much as I love Thor". That's probably not the way Odin meant it (tho he could have phrased more like "that's not what I wanted either of you to do and I love you unconditionally", but then again, Odin being a terrible father is kind of a thing in the MCU), but it's the logical conclusion for Loki's fragile mind, so he lets go, probably with the expectation of dying (which he doesn't, as we see in the post credit scene, but we will get more context for that later). I hope this makes sense. I don't really know how much of this you can get from the movie alone (I do think Hiddleston did his absolute best at portraying Loki's thoughts and feelings, but the character is always a little sidelined in the Thor movies) and how much of this is my own fanfiction influenced headcanon lol
As a Cosplayer I'm very impressed you just whipped this together. Your Thor looks good, especially the wig!! Super excited for the video, your reactions are always so entertaining ^^
I'm not sure if you caught it, but in the Norse system Earth is called Midgard. Loki wanted to destroy Jotunheim partly out of self loathing and partly out of pure ambition, since he saw it as a great way to claim the throne of Asgard for himself. Oh, and the Jotuns' blue thing is called the Casket of Ancient Winters.
The rainbow bridge in Asgard were absolutely gorgeous in the comics due to an artist named Jack Kirby. This definitely honored his art made a lot of us comics fans. Super happy Kirby would’ve loved this. He knew how to make things super shiny and sparkly on a tiny little comic book page believe me it worked.
These movies are like the most fabulous soap opera we’ve ever watched. Reminds me of watching Beverly Hills 90210 in the 90s. This film makes it dramatic points perfectly. You follow the character on his journey. That’s what the comic books were like. You were given a very clear picture of the characters and when things happen to them, you knew How to react
Thor’s friends aren’t Gods. Only he is. And Loki and Odin. Loki was wrong for what he did but he wasn’t wrong in why he was angry. He was born to be a King and then taken from his people and lied to his entire life. Odin basically told him his entire life that he would never be a King - but that he was meant to be a King. That bred a lot of anger and resentment and that’s all on Odin. Loki is my favorite Marvel character. He has the beat character arc of any character in the MCU. Keep watching!
24:40 smashing dinnerware is actually a tradition in Greece! It usually happens at wedding parties or major events like New Years! It's quite plausible that it's a normal thing for Asgardians, just not on regular days maybe (also im pretty sure it happens in a later film too)
Love your cosplay! So glad you enjoyed Thor! Though I have to say, Thor the character took me a while to warm up to. Loki is one of my FAVE mcu characters ever, and he has a really good arc over all the mcu films. I actually agreed with him for most of this film until he did the...ya know...genocide thing. But Loki's growth is incredible and his character is very complex and interesting, so I hope you warm up to him. Loki and Thor's relationship is also beautiful, and Thor really does love Loki, and vice versa. Great reaction, and as I said, I hope he grows on you!
Ima let that loki taunt passed, ima just wait here till you get through all the movies up to Loki's own show, like his character was such a fan favorite he got his own show.
Feel like the growth was more about his realization that he doesn’t know everything. Like, Natalie triggered it because she was the first human he wanted to learn about-and in turn he learned humility (ew, sorry that i wrote that last part but it’s true)
Thing is Thors development continues past this movie. I think he has one of the best developments of all the chatacters(at least in phase 1). Sad you werent a huge fan of Jane and Thor's relationship but so excited to watch you continue to experience the MCU!!!!
Eh, I’ve never enjoyed Thor and Jane’s relationship. The first movie occurs over like 2 days or so once Thor is banished and I’m supposed to just get with the fact that she changed him and his perspective on life and his morals over a weekend? That they ended up having a “fated love” kind of deal because of that? Other than him being an alien god and her being interested in science and space, they have absolutely nothing in common. No hobbies, no other personality quirks, no life experience, their goals in life aren’t really that similar. Not to mention I personally don’t think the actors have much onscreen romantic chemistry with each other. They’re both good looking but it doesn’t mean they vibe onscreen. I get and appreciate other canon romantic couples in the MCU (some to different extents) (and I won’t mention them as they’re spoilers for Brad) but this is one of the few that I don’t understand or ship at all. And I just don’t like Jane’s character. 🫤
Love the costume brad! Slayinggg and enjoying your reactions so much! Loki is one of my fav characters ever in marvel i can't wait for you to see more of him and also for more marvel reactions in general! And love thor too! I relate to the thirsting haha
Love your videos! Every time I see a new reaction I know you’re going to add some delightful sunshine to my day. Love the costumes and your confidence to be silly on your channel! And you deserve to have all the confidence in the world you gorgeous, hilarious man ! Keep up the great work, can’t wait to see the next one! 💖
Just a heads up to how awful Odin is, Loki is 1080+ years old..And Odin didn't tell him he was adopted even after so long. Loki had to find it out himself meaning Odin never planned on telling him..Also Odin raised Loki and Thor making them hate frost giants as well as compete for the throne, despite knowing Loki is a frost giant and is also fit for the throne as he is the rightful king of the frost giants. Loki indeed only wanted to be Thor's equal. But he was not treated as an equal. After all..Despite making Thor and Loki compete for the throne, from the very start, Odin had no intention to make Loki King..He can't have a frost giant, enemies of Asgard, be king. Also why did Odin take Loki as a baby? Loki was not in danger. Loki was crying cause babies just cry. He did not adopt Loki..HE STOLE HIM to use him as a relic in the future Odin is the reason everything sucks. Loki and Thor had a 1000+ years of brotherhood(despite small fights and mischiefs like brothers do..espeically a god of mischief) but it reached it's major drift in this movie, due to the coronation.
LOVE the outfit! You look brilliant! Cosplay only if you want to but it is super enjoyable watching you dress up in the costumes. “Captain America: The First Avenger” is indeed next. Fun Fact: Odin and Thor were originally Germanic Gods. There names were Wodan (Odin) and Thunor (Thor). These are the Anglo-Saxon spelling. So basically they are the gods our ancestors would have worshipped. And King Charles is a "direct descendant of Odin" according to Anglo-saxon chronicles😂
The reason why many call them "Norse Gods" is that the Norse were the last Germanic tribe to keep to the old gods. The rest had converted to Catholicism.
The movie that started my Loki obsession or just Tom Hiddleston obsession. Now, looking back at how far Loki has come it's mind blowing.
This started my Chris Hemsworth obsession 🤩🥰
@@soitsdivine Chris Hemsworth in Ragnarok is something else🤌🏼
24:33 this was a norsemen tradition, they did this to show their appreciation of the drink they just had, that's why he aggresivily broke that cup
you're fangirling over Thor and I'm over here naming mine and Loki's imaginary children 🤣🤣
Another iconic costume from Brad today, what a slay
21:59 “I don’t trust Loki now” well, that’s generally a good attitude to have towards him
Tom Hiddleston really ATE THIS ROLE UP that up to now he is still the most compelling MCU villain ever (simply because Thanos was bungled in End Game) at least for me.
and to think he originally auditioned for thor lmao
44:04 “We’re not holding on to Loki. You all can fuck off.” Now, Brad. That is my husband you’re talking about. 😂 I’ll catch hubby ❤ As soon as I saw the thumbnail I cracked up. I loved this so much, can’t wait for The Avengers reaction 😅
next up captain America the first avenger. loved and obsessed the outfit and the reaction keep up the good work
You’ll love Loki like the rest of us eventually, I promise Brad. As for Thor, I like him better in his himbo era in Ragnarok, aka the best Thor movie
I'm so here for the Marvel journey. This is going to be fun, experiencing this with Brad.
Thor would always be the best part of the film.
"Forgive me Jane" still gives me chills.
LOKI LOOKS SO GOOD THOUGH
You look stunning brad!!, next time do loki pls
The growl at Loki from Odin was improvised by Anthony Hopkins and actually caused the genuine reaction you see from Tom Hiddleston/Loki
Brad is killing the ensembles on TH-cam and IG! I ❤ it!
Loving that you're doing a Marvel watch through. I have a bit of a feeling that Loki may just end up being a favorite of yours!
The only thing to make the cosplay more perfect is for Brad to dye his eyebrows blonde 😂
i could’ve concealed them a little, but i didn’t know he had bleached brows 😂
@@BradEvans21 they're only bleached in the first movie haha they're not bleached after this so it's fine
@@BradEvans21they regretted that decision and luckily didn't do it again 👀
I wait for the moment you start liking Loki so much you will dress up as him 😂😂😂❤
tbf i liked him in this, but obvs had to route for thor 😂
@@BradEvans21 fair 🤣
Please don't. Thor would always be a better character.
Loki lies, genocides, murders and betrays and his stans would still suck him.
Feel like the growth was more about his realization that he doesn’t know everything. Like, Natalie triggered it because she was the first human he wanted to learn about-and in turn he learned humility (ew, sorry that i wrote that last part but it’s true)
Brad, nice costume. You look gorgeous as Thor! Slay!
I love your reactions so much! You need to watch the Loki series it’s so good
"For you, for all of us" .............💔
It's actually a shame how much good the deleted scenes do for Loki.
This video deserves a like just for the wig alone
period aha
@@dawnmayflower4422same, its not as compelling as other mcu relationships
late to the video but yayyyyy we get to see lokiiiii. fav character i love him
Cant wait for the Wandavision cosplay!! ✨
Loki is my favorite and will forever be my favorite. 🥺🖤
I know it's so far off, but i can't wait to see you react to Ragnarok!
30:52 i believe he would be able to pick it up now and that makes me cry a wee bit
11:40 well cause you got the Thor: Love and Thunder costume which is the 4th Thor movie
Not even 2 minutes in, as soon as I saw the costume I liked the video 😂
Your thoughts about everybody not running makes me laugh. It's not just fight or flight, there's also freeze. Shock makes people stay where they are.
Costume request: Black Widow 😅
Love the costume brad! Slayinggg and enjoying your reactions so much! Loki is one of my fav characters ever in marvel i can't wait for you to see more of him and also for more marvel reactions in general! And love thor too! I relate to the thirsting haha
Love your videos! Every time I see a new reaction I know you’re going to add some delightful sunshine to my day. Love the costumes and your confidence to be silly on your channel! And you deserve to have all the confidence in the world you gorgeous, hilarious man ! Keep up the great work, can’t wait to see the next one! 💖
Loki will forever be my favourite marvel character
You looked gorgeous in that costume love it💗
LIVINGGGG for this costume‼️you came to slay!
You kind of commented on it Brad, but 42:39 kind of spawned a whole genre of Loki fan art and fanfic with him as a pole dancer. Just sayin’… 🥵😂
Can't wait for you to watch the TV show about Loki in the future, his character growth arc is my favorite
If/when you get thru all the marvel movies I pray you react to the Loki show as well. (also love the fit + Maze Runner when? 😂 )
Definitely need more costumes in the future 😂❤
Aaahh I’m so excited, I’ve been religiously waiting for this to drop refreshing your page like the stan I am😭
Pms is seeing this video is up and damn near 50 minutes long and just bursting in to tears 🥹🥹 I needed this like Brad needs some glue for that wig
44:05 Nonononono …..no… we LOVE Loki
Brad you are an international treasure. Never stop being you, it’s so uplifting:).
Not Brad putting shattered Mjölnir in the reaction 😅
earliest i've ever been as a new subscriber!! so excitedddd thank you for my breakfast watch brad
We love your cosplay continue dojng it!!!
I LOVE THIS REACTION ❤ PLEASE DO NOT STOP DOING THE MCU 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Can’t wait for you to watch thor ragnarok
He did not adopt Loki..HE STOLE HIM to use him as a relic in the future
Odin is the reason everything sucks. Loki and Thor had a 1000+ years of brotherhood(despite small fights and mischiefs like brothers do..espeically a god of mischief) but it reached it's major drift in this movie, due to the coronation.
Came back to re-watch this one while impatiently waiting for your Caption America reaction 😫
Oh my gods, I cannot wait till you get to Guardians of the Galaxy
brad are you gonna react to the shows as well coz i would really love to see your reaction to the loki series when you get to it
I’m digging the long wig, Brad! It looks good on you! ❤
Everytime you release a marvel reaction I get excited cause you get closer and closer to start my favorite MCU trilogy Gaurdians of The Galaxy💜😁
LOVE the outfit! You look brilliant! Cosplay only if you want to but it is super enjoyable watching you dress up in the costumes. “Captain America: The First Avenger” is indeed next. I enjoyed listening to your perspective of the movie and the characters after you finished the film. I think this was pretty much my thought process back when I first watched this movie a decade ago. I know there’s a lot of Loki love in the comment section (I admit he’s dead to me too lol) but don’t let that sway you - I’d prefer to see your honest reactions and opinions. Everyone is different after all.
I cracked up at 44:55 to 45:08 - like that was my perspective of the whole Jane/Thor thing. They knew each other for just several days and they’re acting like fated star crossed lovers who can change one another completely. 🤨😑 Give me a break.
Love how happy Brad is with this costume! Slay yasss
Alright now I need you in a costume related to every movie even if it’s repeats it’s just such a vibe and adds to the experience
brad slays in every costume ‼️‼️
I can't wait to see your thoughts on the characters as they change and progress and storylines happen the character arcs
STOPP this wig looks so good on you! AND WHEN IT WAS LONG?? so good
ITS ASTOUNDING…TIME IS FLEETING…MADNESS…TAKES ITS TOLL 😂 sorry Brad, out the corner of my eye, I thought you were Riff Raff for a sec. Loved the reaction, well love your reactions full stop but the MCU ones have been great so far! Big love ❤
