    As you know I fixed mine almost the same way, the only difference is I went in the side of the good arm, pulled it out slightly and threaded the cable tie in that way not having to cut the original O ring, this has given it extra strength and my O ring that I added in the middle is still holding, great figure to restore though and excellent video.

    • @toypolloi
      @toypolloi  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      On this one that would not have worked. The good arm was still attached very well and there was not enough gap to work through. On some the original o-rings streets over time and will give you access.

    You got there in the end which is all that matters, it occurred to me that when Kenner originally developed these ranges they probably went through similar design and durability tests. Great Vid, Cheers, Fuzz.

    I just used this technique on a 15" Darth Vader. When I got it, the arms were very loose due to the stretched out rubber bands inside. Now the arms are really tight. Thanks for the info!

    Horrible moment in my childhood when I was in my backyard and I just twisted it and it snapped. me and my friends loved the rancor it was the perfect badguy for our stormtroopers. shame I didn't have this as a child or thing of it I did something similar with breadties but it didn't hold up and the arms were limp.

    I've just repaired a rancor and watched your video before hand and had planned to do the same but didn't want to cut the good arm elastic. I ended up getting 3mm elastic, threaded it through the loop on the detached arm, then passed it through the body either side of the original rubber fixing and out the side of the attached arm hole. Then pulled it tight, did a loop and pulled it tight and then again to secure it. The cut off the remaining. Ended up with a great fix that is very comparable to the original with a stiff pose. Only difference is it doesn't hold quite as well on the up/down shoulder movement. Very easy to do and undo as well if a better solution comes up. Give it a go next time you pick up a broken one.

      Lighter fluid will loosen them, but it takes time. And is very hard to not damage them.

    • @kjamison5951
      @kjamison5951 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      HugoGS GS Lighter fluid, Q-tips/cotton buds, kitchen paper and patience. Lighter fluid generally doesn’t damage surfaces but try it on a small hidden area first to see if affects the paint or colouring. I’ve used lighter fluid to clean sticker residue from cardboard boxes without damage.
      Patience is key. Take a bit of extra time and it will work.

    Great video as always.
    I have a strange question for you (and the folks in the comment section).
    Do you know if there is any chance that Kenner would have sent out a figure with the arms attached backwards (left on right and vice versa).
    I got my self a vintage Rancor with the arms on the wrong side. I tried to see if I could get a clue if the arms was factory attached, or "home made", but it wasnt easy.
    It seemed to me, shining a light down his throat, that his arms was tied with a bungy cord, and not using an O-ring.
    But it also seemed that it was tied in the "front" of the figure, just like it should be (except a knot instead of a "solid" O-ring).
    It wasnt easy to get under his arms, looking in his "arm pits" so to say 🙂

    • @toypolloi
      @toypolloi  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sounds like a self done repair to me.

      Thanks for the response, really appreciate it. 👍
      He looks really intimidating with his arms up in the air, in an "attacking pose", but if I have them in a "rest position", he drags his arms behind him, and the elbow is in front of him 😄
      If it was a factor error I would have kept him that way, but as it seems to be a home made repair, I think that I will reattach his arms.

    • @toypolloi

      Drill a small hole next to where the hook has snapped. You can then slot the cable tie through that and out through where the hook has broken.

      Oh thank you very much. Where can i buy those little cable ties or what are they called ? Kind Regards

    • @kjamison5951
      @kjamison5951 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Martinjr1975 Try on-line. Look for cable ties. They come in different lengths and the width of the cable tie is usually proportional to the length, so a 4” long cable tie is likely to have a 1/8th” width (100mm x 3mm).
      Local DIY stores or electronics stores or even some supermarkets might have small packs for a couple of dollars (or pounds). I have also seen small packets in gas stations (petrol stations) on the stand where they usually have sewing kits, sticky tape, fuses, curtain hooks, string, appliance plugs, etc.
