I was just thinking about that. I loved how the NHL used to postpone the all-star game in a year where the winter games happened. It made so much sense and I miss it.
If the WBC was any indicator, then MLB needs to figure out how to get their players in the Olympics, it will be absolutely amazing for the game and gives guys a sense of pride representing their nation on the world stage

If I remember correctly, a sport must have regular world championship competitions in order to qualify to be on the Olympic program, except as an exhibition event. In other words, the WBC (or similar) needs to exist in order for baseball to qualify as a regular Olympic sport.
Yeah I think an ideal form of Olympic baseball would co-exist nicely with the WBC. The WBC is a longer tournament featuring tons and tons of teams from all over and that's great. Ideal Olympic baseball would be a short tournament with basically just the best of the best going at it. Both would have their place and people would get excited about both (and we wouldn't have to wait for 4 years for each WBC).
Never count on MLB owners doing anything but worrying about the one penny on the ground in front of them instead of the dollar around the corner. Part of the reason baseball got removed from the Olympics was because of the lack of the best players showing up. I bet the owners wouldn't even want to send any of their top prospects because of fear of injury. The plus of the Olympics over the WBC is that players are right in the middle of the season so they're should be less chance of injury, but of course there are no guarantees. Btw, they haven't decided on a venue for the baseball but softball is being played in Oklahoma City.
Problem with WBC is that it's a gobal event for baseball fans. For the Olympics, like any sport, it's to help promote baseball and provide more exposure to casual fans. As for filling out the roster, for the Tokyo Olympics, USA filled out the roster with Triple AAA minor leaguers and major league FAs (Scott Kazmir was DFA'd by the Giants then joined Team USA right after). On the other hand, because it was in Tokyo, Samurai Japan was able to fill out its roster with professional players from the NPB (Japan's top baseball league), including Kodai Senga and Seiya Suzuki before they signed with MLB teams. If they can do it, why can't USA and MLB do it?
I went to a couple Olympic baseball games in 1984 at Dodgers stadium. I saw Korea beat Canada, and then Japan ran away in a laugher against Nicaragua. It was a lot of fun though.
BTW, Dodger Stadium was the Baseball venue in 1984, when it was an Exhibition (non-medal) sport. The main venue at LA28 will be Dodger Stadium again, but the preliminary venues are still TBD. The next World Baseball Classic will be in 2026, so no conflict with the Olympics. But FIFA doesn't have an issue with Olympic Football/Soccer, yet we still have the World Cup. I think there should be an NHL-like hiatus for the Olympic Baseball. In Atlanta 1996, professionals were still not allowed to play team sports, so this is uncharted territory here. But with so many international players in the MLB today, and the fervor demonstrated at the WBC, you know there's a lot of players who want to win a medal. I understand there will be league-wide revenue lost by shutting down the season for 2 weeks. But MLB stadiums outside of the official competition venues should open up as Olympic baseball (or even other Olympic sport) viewing party sites, so their concessions can still generate revenue. In lieu of an ASG, how about having an All-USA Team vote?
I don’t think the MLB or players should worry about the Olympics. If I’m the MLB the WBC is a much better event to prop up the game with no other events to take away from it.
It is except that the timing of it being in the preseason, there’s too many limits put on players going all out to win. The best timing would be in November but MLB doesn’t want it overshadowing the World Series.

Compare it to this potential Team USA starting lineup I've thought of for 2028 -- not actually in a lineup order: SP: Paul Skenes C: Adley Rutschman 1B: Bryce Harper 2B: Jackson Holliday SS: Bobby Witt, Jr. 3B: Gunnar Henderson OF: Steven Kwan, Kyle Tucker and Corbin Carroll DH: Aaron Judge. Closer: Mason Miller Taking a two-week break and allowing these MLB stars to participate would give attract more eyeballs and allow baseball to grow. As this guy said, while the WBC is great, the Olympics is much more prestigious.
If they use Dodger Stadium, Angel Stadium, and Petco Park, they can compress the Olympic baseball schedule and shorten the required break. You can play three games at once.
I would love to see MLB stars in 2028! I think one of the biggest hangups that you didn’t mention would be the trade deadline would be the week after the games would end, and I’d assume owners would push back on that. As far as scheduling, the NPB figured out a way in 2021 to pause the season for team Japan, I think MLB can figure it out.
Here's an idea for a format. The 6 countries with the most MLB players are put into 2 groups of 4 teams. So for example the U.S., D.R., Puerto Rico, Cuba, Venezuela, and Mexico are automatically placed in these groups The 4th team in those groups is from an 8-team round robin that takes place during the 1st week of the Olympics. This would allow you to have teams from Europe and other places where baseball isn't very popular have an entry in the tournament. Also countries such as South Korea and Japan would be in this part of the bracket. Top 2 from the 1st week advance to the 2nd week. MLB only has to shut down a week. Round robin takes place Tues-Thur, international home run derby Fri, Semis Sat, Medal games Sun. I think you could pull this off using Dodger and Angel stadiums. Dodgers and Angels just have long road trips before the Olympic shut down. I say you have 30-man rosters with pitcher rules such as if you throw over 100 pitches in a game you can't pitch again in the tournament, can't throw back to back days if you throw more than 20 pitches, can't pitch 3 days in a row. Just some ideas.
Take two weeks off at the all star break. Don't have the all-star game. Start a week earlier in the spring. Than extend an extra week at the end of season.

The WBC is scheduled for 2026. Brackets just came out today. I think it wouldn't be played again until 2029, so major leaguers in the Olympics doesn't interfere with the WBC.

Nope, we are nowhere close to soccer's popularity to dig trenches around the WBC and disregard the Olympics. Imo a sport's prime international competition only consolidate popularity in places where it already enjoys attention by a chunk of the population. Soccer captured the global attention with Pele and the World Cup at the dawn of the worldwide TV era. Now it enjoys popularity in virtually every country in the world. It, and no other sport, can now afford passing on the Olympics as the prime promotional event.
Cricket will also be in LA ball and bat sports have 3 billion fans world wide even Soccer only has 3 and half billion so that is a lot. But the thing is two and half billion of these fans are Cricket fans so long term Cricket will be the ball and bat sport that sticks however the WBC keeps getting better it is really all Baseball needs , what would be better was if it was every two years
The owners issue is going to be who pays for the insurance in case a player gets hurt. For Hockey the IIHF agreed to pay for the insurance and travel for the Olympics that NHL players participated.
July 14 seems kind of early to start the Summer Olympics, but given that time frame, that is about when MLB takes their All Star break. It can be done.

The mid-season shutdown & injury risk is likely too much for MLB. Players' opinions aside, if the owners aren't making money out of it, is there really any chance of MLB players participating in the Olympics?
They could split the season, as they did after the 56-day midseason strike in 1981 -- and that might create even MORE playoff games to sell to the networks.
The only difficulty are the pitchers who don't go and having to "restart" themselves after the Olympics. Would be great for their participation though.
When they baseball at the Olympics in 1984, here are just a few players who were on team USA... How about Will Clark, Mark McGwire, pitcher Scott Bankhead, Chris Gwynn (Tony's brother), Barry Larkin, BJ Surhoff, Oddibe McDowell, Cory Snider, pitchers Billy Swift and Bobby Witt!
I'm not sure it's viable for MLB to do this. You'd be extending the regular season calendar by at least two weeks and if that year's World Series goes 7 games, you're looking at potentially wrapping the season sometime around Veteran's Day and I doubt the MLBPA would be on board with this because it'd be a shortened off-season.
Break off 18 games from the regular season and have a separate competition during the Olympics. Owners still get the 9 home games they lose from the shortened regular season. Teams not in contention get a fresh start and a chance for a title. Baseball nearly moved to the Winter Olympics in 2002 - the games would have been played in Phoenix.
I don't think hockey will ever be moved to the summer games but that is surprisingly where it mades it debut at the Olympics. Also, correct me if I'm wrong but I think the WBC is having their next tournament in 2026 and I'm pretty sure they plan on having it every four years from then on out so the MLB shouldn't have to worry about hosting the tournament the same year as the Olympics. Regardless, 2028 and potentially 2032 (I'd expect Brisbane will include baseball) might be the only chances the MLB has to showcase itself to a truly global audience in the near future so they really need to consider letting the players participate.

That taboo of playing “ice hockey” in hot cities and during the summer is over. The 2 recent Stanley Cup Champions are based in both Las Vegas and Miami/Ft Lauderdale. So an ice hockey summer tournament can be held in the Summer.
The Dodgers have given their approval and their cooperation in the Los Angeles Olympic bid plan for Dodger Stadium to host baseball, but the whole situation that Brodie is talking about is what's keeping everything from being official. Also, there will be other MLB ballparks who will host preliminary rounds, and that hasn't been determined yet, due to the MLB 2028 season issue. I suppose it won't be inked until 2026. Having a long road trip for participating Olympic venue teams is a good argument to have an Olympic hiatus.

The WBC is totally different from the Olympics. Just like the FIBA World Cup (FIBA = world basketball's governing body) is totally different from the Olympics. The WBC is not the Olympic baseball competition. Yes, Olympic softball will be in Oklahoma City. But that's the actual Olympic softball competition.
The ioc has already stated that they fully expect baseball to be included in 2032 as well. Also by then, the 2024 #1 mlb draft pick Travis bazzana should have already made a name for himself and I think Australia would be crazy to not want to allow him to showcase his talent in his home country. That is of course if mlb players are allowed to play as well.

Historical note: before FIFA staged their first World Cup in 1930, the Olympics Soccer tournament was the defacto world championship. Since then, the relationship between the IOC & FIFA has been fraught: the IOC wants their tournament to feature full national teams just like in the World Cup, whereas FIFA does not, thus the age-restricted situation for the Men's tournament. Lastly, the World Baseball Classic has a long way to go before it gets anywhere near the FIFA World Cup.
Well the World Cup is way fucking better than the Olympics with or without pros + the euros and Copa America, the worlds 2 biggest continental tournaments in the world take place weeks before the Olympics so don’t expect mbappe, Vinicius, Haaland, Bellingham, kane, Messi, van dijk, modric, etc to just jump over to the Olympics days after they just played a major tournament. The month between the end of those tournaments and the start of the season is the rest period + soccer dosent need the Olympics, never had needed it. The World Cup which is one sport is larger in popularity and viewership than the Olympics, baseball could use it because baseball is huge in America, east Asia, and the Caribbean, whereas soccer is huge globally. Beside the US & Canada which still have fairly large soccer fan bases. There are enormous fan bases in every country in the world. Soccer is either the number 1-2 sport or tied with another sport in popularity in most other countries. Baseball needs the Olympics because imagine how much growth baseball could get outside of the Americas and east Asia region. I could see millions of new fans all over the world from like Germany, Brazil, Argentina, Britain, India, etc. and I might be over exaggerating but you’re still getting millions of new fans globally from countries that wouldn’t normally bat an eye for baseball.

Or maybe play some form of Spring Training where the players not in the Olympics play a team close to them in a Home and Home Series (or intersquad games with FanFest type deals) with cheap tickets and concessions. The WNBA took two weeks off of their schedule so if the WNBA can take two weeks off of their schedule then in my opinion any professional league out there in the world can take time off for the professional players to play in the Olympics
Easiest solution is to move the WBC to 2029. Start the season early, take the olympic break and get millions of new eyes on the sport as best as we can make it, then have the WBC in 2029 to give the new fans another global tournament to watch. Win for all sides IMO

The WBC is supposed to be every four years. There was supposed to be one next year but because COVID bumped 2021 to 2023 they have moved the 2025 classic back one year to 2026. There won’t be one in 2028.
Interesting thoughts indeed. What about the players who play on MLB teams but are not US citizens or maybe have dual citizenship? What about bringing in Triple A players for the team or College WS players? For Owners it could turn out to be a double edge financial sword so to speak. No MLB games for about 2 weeks so no revenue at all and a chance your star player suffers a season or career ending injury? Yeah, lots of discussion, lots of opinions and lots of money involved.
Its absurd not to. Dont just allow it. Lean the hell into it. Give the All Star Game to Dodger Stadium on tueaday before the Opening Ceremonies and make a huge deal of it. 3 weeks off. Encourage the non Olympic players to stay in tbe area and go to the games. Growing the sport means getting it in front of new people with the best you have.
Let the major leaguers play and play some exhibitions with the rest of the players. Make extra money and raise the sport's profile with the big leaguers. Look how successful the World Baseball Classic is.
I would like to see MLB players play in the Olympics plus the minor leagues. I think they would do well in the ratings. MLB should go on a break while the Olympics start but the owners would never go for it because they don't want their players injured. Realistically, I can see minor league and independent players go to the Olympics in 2028.

Brodie, if MLB is serious about growing baseball among casual fans internationally, there is no bigger mainstream stage than the olympics. Its a no-brainer; they will accommodate it; its only a matter of how the details work out.
Imagine how many fans you could get from like Germany, Argentina, India. I feel like the south Asian continent is a great place to get new fans because their favourite sport is cricket, a sport that is modeled similarly to baseball and if you have the most elite guys at the Olympics in 2028 you could expose baseball to regions that don’t necessarily have much interest in baseball and I think the south Asian countries are a great spot because you’re getting tons of new fans from there if exposed since it’s a global event watched by half of the world. Baseball will skyrocket if you expose it to the world
Facts like the WBC promotes the game but the Olympics can promote the game to a larger audience which can help other events that MLB does such as the LLWS and WBC
In sport that does a terrible job at marking it’s top the summer Olympics would be best opportunity that mlb could have at marketing there too stars on the biggest stage in the world they would be foolish to not take advantage of it
@@taiam005 Team USA at the WBC is not even close to what the 1992 Dream Team was in basketball. In 5 WBCs Team USA has only won a single time and they lost two games in the group stage that year. The 1992 basketball team won every game by huge margins, 32 points was their lowest margin of victory.
@@redmarauder Oh for sure. There is a much better international distribution of talent in baseball than basketball. Also the American players don't view representing their country to be as prestigious as the international players do. Maybe it would be different if it wasn't during spring training.

What if they took a couple of weekends during the early MLB season and played the group matches in cities all across MLB? And then only played the knockout rounds in LA during the actual Olympics. It would lessen the long break and let more fans see the Olympics across the country.

Problem with WBC is that it's a gobal event for baseball fans. For the Olympics, like any sport, it's to help promote baseball and provide more exposure to casual fans.
As for filling out the roster, for the Tokyo Olympics, USA filled out the roster with Triple AAA minor leaguers and major league FAs (Scott Kazmir was DFA'd by the Giants then joined Team USA right after). On the other hand, because it was in Tokyo, Samurai Japan was able to fill out its roster with professional players from the NPB (Japan's top baseball league), including Kodai Senga and Seiya Suzuki before they signed with MLB teams. If they can do it, why can't USA and MLB do it?

I went to a couple Olympic baseball games in 1984 at Dodgers stadium. I saw Korea beat Canada, and then Japan ran away in a laugher against Nicaragua. It was a lot of fun though.
BTW, Dodger Stadium was the Baseball venue in 1984, when it was an Exhibition (non-medal) sport. The main venue at LA28 will be Dodger Stadium again, but the preliminary venues are still TBD.
The next World Baseball Classic will be in 2026, so no conflict with the Olympics. But FIFA doesn't have an issue with Olympic Football/Soccer, yet we still have the World Cup.
I think there should be an NHL-like hiatus for the Olympic Baseball. In Atlanta 1996, professionals were still not allowed to play team sports, so this is uncharted territory here. But with so many international players in the MLB today, and the fervor demonstrated at the WBC, you know there's a lot of players who want to win a medal.
I understand there will be league-wide revenue lost by shutting down the season for 2 weeks. But MLB stadiums outside of the official competition venues should open up as Olympic baseball (or even other Olympic sport) viewing party sites, so their concessions can still generate revenue.
In lieu of an ASG, how about having an All-USA Team vote?
FIFA does not recognize Olympic soccer and only players under 23 can play and most of the best under 23' s do not play ( three over 23's can play).

I don’t think the MLB or players should worry about the Olympics. If I’m the MLB the WBC is a much better event to prop up the game with no other events to take away from it.
It is except that the timing of it being in the preseason, there’s too many limits put on players going all out to win. The best timing would be in November but MLB doesn’t want it overshadowing the World Series.

Taking a two-week break and allowing these MLB stars to participate would give attract more eyeballs and allow baseball to grow. As this guy said, while the WBC is great, the Olympics is much more prestigious.
If they use Dodger Stadium, Angel Stadium, and Petco Park, they can compress the Olympic baseball schedule and shorten the required break. You can play three games at once.

I would love to see MLB stars in 2028! I think one of the biggest hangups that you didn’t mention would be the trade deadline would be the week after the games would end, and I’d assume owners would push back on that. As far as scheduling, the NPB figured out a way in 2021 to pause the season for team Japan, I think MLB can figure it out.

Here's an idea for a format. The 6 countries with the most MLB players are put into 2 groups of 4 teams. So for example the U.S., D.R., Puerto Rico, Cuba, Venezuela, and Mexico are automatically placed in these groups The 4th team in those groups is from an 8-team round robin that takes place during the 1st week of the Olympics. This would allow you to have teams from Europe and other places where baseball isn't very popular have an entry in the tournament. Also countries such as South Korea and Japan would be in this part of the bracket. Top 2 from the 1st week advance to the 2nd week. MLB only has to shut down a week. Round robin takes place Tues-Thur, international home run derby Fri, Semis Sat, Medal games Sun. I think you could pull this off using Dodger and Angel stadiums. Dodgers and Angels just have long road trips before the Olympic shut down. I say you have 30-man rosters with pitcher rules such as if you throw over 100 pitches in a game you can't pitch again in the tournament, can't throw back to back days if you throw more than 20 pitches, can't pitch 3 days in a row. Just some ideas.
Take two weeks off at the all star break. Don't have the all-star game. Start a week earlier in the spring. Than extend an extra week at the end of season.
Or they could do the all star game in LA that year and go straight into Olympics baseball games cause there r some events in the Olympics that always start before the opening ceremony begins

The WBC is scheduled for 2026. Brackets just came out today. I think it wouldn't be played again until 2029, so major leaguers in the Olympics doesn't interfere with the WBC.
I think if Baseball were in the Olympics then we wouldn't want the WBC. The WBC works better for baseball than the Olympics. There is too high a risk for injury in baseball to have both.

Imo a sport's prime international competition only consolidate popularity in places where it already enjoys attention by a chunk of the population.
Soccer captured the global attention with Pele and the World Cup at the dawn of the worldwide TV era. Now it enjoys popularity in virtually every country in the world. It, and no other sport, can now afford passing on the Olympics as the prime promotional event.
Cricket will also be in LA ball and bat sports have 3 billion fans world wide even Soccer only has 3 and half billion so that is a lot. But the thing is two and half billion of these fans are Cricket fans so long term Cricket will be the ball and bat sport that sticks however the WBC keeps getting better it is really all Baseball needs , what would be better was if it was every two years

The owners issue is going to be who pays for the insurance in case a player gets hurt. For Hockey the IIHF agreed to pay for the insurance and travel for the Olympics that NHL players participated.
July 14 seems kind of early to start the Summer Olympics, but given that time frame, that is about when MLB takes their All Star break. It can be done.

There seems to be some confusion about the WBC. It’s supposed to be a one-in-four year event. There won’t be one in 2028.
They could split the season, as they did after the 56-day midseason strike in 1981 -- and that might create even MORE playoff games to sell to the networks.
The only difficulty are the pitchers who don't go and having to "restart" themselves after the Olympics.
Would be great for their participation though.

I'm not sure it's viable for MLB to do this. You'd be extending the regular season calendar by at least two weeks and if that year's World Series goes 7 games, you're looking at potentially wrapping the season sometime around Veteran's Day and I doubt the MLBPA would be on board with this because it'd be a shortened off-season.
Break off 18 games from the regular season and have a separate competition during the Olympics. Owners still get the 9 home games they lose from the shortened regular season. Teams not in contention get a fresh start and a chance for a title.
Baseball nearly moved to the Winter Olympics in 2002 - the games would have been played in Phoenix.

I don't think hockey will ever be moved to the summer games but that is surprisingly where it mades it debut at the Olympics. Also, correct me if I'm wrong but I think the WBC is having their next tournament in 2026 and I'm pretty sure they plan on having it every four years from then on out so the MLB shouldn't have to worry about hosting the tournament the same year as the Olympics. Regardless, 2028 and potentially 2032 (I'd expect Brisbane will include baseball) might be the only chances the MLB has to showcase itself to a truly global audience in the near future so they really need to consider letting the players participate.

That taboo of playing “ice hockey” in hot cities and during the summer is over. The 2 recent Stanley Cup Champions are based in both Las Vegas and Miami/Ft Lauderdale. So an ice hockey summer tournament can be held in the Summer.
Right now no baseball venues has been officially announced. I know in 96 the braves had to be gone for 17 games
The Dodgers have given their approval and their cooperation in the Los Angeles Olympic bid plan for Dodger Stadium to host baseball, but the whole situation that Brodie is talking about is what's keeping everything from being official. Also, there will be other MLB ballparks who will host preliminary rounds, and that hasn't been determined yet, due to the MLB 2028 season issue. I suppose it won't be inked until 2026.
Having a long road trip for participating Olympic venue teams is a good argument to have an Olympic hiatus.

The WBC is totally different from the Olympics. Just like the FIBA World Cup (FIBA = world basketball's governing body) is totally different from the Olympics. The WBC is not the Olympic baseball competition. Yes, Olympic softball will be in Oklahoma City. But that's the actual Olympic softball competition.
If they did do it in 2028 they certainly won't do it in 2032 in Australia
The ioc has already stated that they fully expect baseball to be included in 2032 as well. Also by then, the 2024 #1 mlb draft pick Travis bazzana should have already made a name for himself and I think Australia would be crazy to not want to allow him to showcase his talent in his home country. That is of course if mlb players are allowed to play as well.

Historical note: before FIFA staged their first World Cup in 1930, the Olympics Soccer tournament was the defacto world championship. Since then, the relationship between the IOC & FIFA has been fraught: the IOC wants their tournament to feature full national teams just like in the World Cup, whereas FIFA does not, thus the age-restricted situation for the Men's tournament. Lastly, the World Baseball Classic has a long way to go before it gets anywhere near the FIFA World Cup.
Well the World Cup is way fucking better than the Olympics with or without pros + the euros and Copa America, the worlds 2 biggest continental tournaments in the world take place weeks before the Olympics so don’t expect mbappe, Vinicius, Haaland, Bellingham, kane, Messi, van dijk, modric, etc to just jump over to the Olympics days after they just played a major tournament. The month between the end of those tournaments and the start of the season is the rest period + soccer dosent need the Olympics, never had needed it. The World Cup which is one sport is larger in popularity and viewership than the Olympics, baseball could use it because baseball is huge in America, east Asia, and the Caribbean, whereas soccer is huge globally. Beside the US & Canada which still have fairly large soccer fan bases. There are enormous fan bases in every country in the world. Soccer is either the number 1-2 sport or tied with another sport in popularity in most other countries. Baseball needs the Olympics because imagine how much growth baseball could get outside of the Americas and east Asia region. I could see millions of new fans all over the world from like Germany, Brazil, Argentina, Britain, India, etc. and I might be over exaggerating but you’re still getting millions of new fans globally from countries that wouldn’t normally bat an eye for baseball.

Or maybe play some form of Spring Training where the players not in the Olympics play a team close to them in a Home and Home Series (or intersquad games with FanFest type deals) with cheap tickets and concessions. Keeps players timing at mid-season level, makes the owners revenue, and keeps local fans coming to the ballpark.

The WNBA took two weeks off of their schedule so if the WNBA can take two weeks off of their schedule then in my opinion any professional league out there in the world can take time off for the professional players to play in the Olympics
Use the WBC as an Olympic qualifier. Then take the final 4 or 6 teams to LA during what would be All-Star week.
Easiest solution is to move the WBC to 2029. Start the season early, take the olympic break and get millions of new eyes on the sport as best as we can make it, then have the WBC in 2029 to give the new fans another global tournament to watch. Win for all sides IMO

@@brodiebrazil Yeah, getting MLB players in the Olympics should be a real goal, then the next WBC could have a bump from new viewers, leading into potential new MLB fans. I'm really excited to see how this turns out, I especially want to see the guys who are fighting to be able to play for their countries.
The WBC is supposed to be every four years. There was supposed to be one next year but because COVID bumped 2021 to 2023 they have moved the 2025 classic back one year to 2026. There won’t be one in 2028.
Interesting thoughts indeed. What about the players who play on MLB teams but are not US citizens or maybe have dual citizenship? What about bringing in Triple A players for the team or College WS players? For Owners it could turn out to be a double edge financial sword so to speak. No MLB games for about 2 weeks so no revenue at all and a chance your star player suffers a season or career ending injury? Yeah, lots of discussion, lots of opinions and lots of money involved.
Its absurd not to. Dont just allow it. Lean the hell into it. Give the All Star Game to Dodger Stadium on tueaday before the Opening Ceremonies and make a huge deal of it. 3 weeks off. Encourage the non Olympic players to stay in tbe area and go to the games.
Growing the sport means getting it in front of new people with the best you have.

I would like to see MLB players play in the Olympics plus the minor leagues. I think they would do well in the ratings. MLB should go on a break while the Olympics start but the owners would never go for it because they don't want their players injured. Realistically, I can see minor league and independent players go to the Olympics in 2028.

Imagine how many fans you could get from like Germany, Argentina, India. I feel like the south Asian continent is a great place to get new fans because their favourite sport is cricket, a sport that is modeled similarly to baseball and if you have the most elite guys at the Olympics in 2028 you could expose baseball to regions that don’t necessarily have much interest in baseball and I think the south Asian countries are a great spot because you’re getting tons of new fans from there if exposed since it’s a global event watched by half of the world. Baseball will skyrocket if you expose it to the world

@@taiam005 Team USA at the WBC is not even close to what the 1992 Dream Team was in basketball. In 5 WBCs Team USA has only won a single time and they lost two games in the group stage that year. The 1992 basketball team won every game by huge margins, 32 points was their lowest margin of victory.

What if they took a couple of weekends during the early MLB season and played the group matches in cities all across MLB? And then only played the knockout rounds in LA during the actual Olympics. It would lessen the long break and let more fans see the Olympics across the country.
