It's really too bad that they caught all that backlash when they won the Grammy for the best Heavy Metal band. They became "uncool" for a long time. But when you revisit some of his music from the last 50 years…and watch his performances on TH-cam, you really get a sense of how great Ian Anderson really is. This is just one of many Jethro Tull videos that capture his genius.

Brilliant. So glad I grew up listening to bands like Jethro Tull who took musical journeys and could back up their playing with poise, poetry, and character.
As a a guitarist, Martin Barre has always been high on my list as a craftsman. Ian Anderson once commented on his occasional awkwardness "He walks into doors, falls out of windows, but he plays one lot of guitar". : )
Kudos to all band members here. Very tight, and well performed!

Amazing that they could drive such a tight amplified package in such a small environment. Sounds great!

I saw them at Merriworth Post Pavilion in the 80s; they were fantastic. Been listening to them since the 70s--such melodic precision and beauty.

Tull was one of the tightest bands I ever saw... and I saw more than I could ever count. They all had the appearance of big whacked out druggies of the day but the fact is that they never did any of that. They were all straight as an arrow.

Really excellent video. The band is in fine form, as is Anderson's voice. There are hints of the vocal troubles to come, as Ian physically "reaches" for those high notes, but he does attain them. It became more problematic in more recent times, when Ian reached for the notes, but if he got them at all, it was always following a delay. An amazing band, and Ian is legendary!

A perfect example of what great musicians can do without tons of equipment surrounding them. So many little runs going on between the keyboard player and Martin Barre. And that drummer was on point with basically no kit. Really great clip.

Nice! l'm a huge, Yes, Genesis, ELP, Crimson, Zappa listener, but these guys were pretty good! lan's voice in the begging of TAAB is really gorgeous! Glad he's still alive. Saw Wakeman interview him the other day too, and that was cool. He looked very respectable in a lovely back suit!

I was at the 71 Red Rocks and one thing I remember most, besides all the tear gas, was JT still played and the piano and the organ were on the opposite side of the stage. It was most notable on Locomotive Breath where the keyboardist had to run across the stage many times while avoiding the tear gas.

"Really don't mind if you sit this one out
My word's but a whisper your deafness a SHOUT
I may make you feel but I can't make you think
Your sperm's in the gutter your love's in the sink
So you ride yourselves over the fields
And you make all your animal deals
And your wise men don't know how it feels
To be thick as a brick
And the sand-castle virtues are all swept away
In the tidal destruction the moral melee
The elastic retreat rings the close of play
As the last wave uncovers the newfangled way
But your new shoes are worn at the heels
And your suntan does rapidly peel
And your wise men don't know how it feels
To be thick as a brick
And the love that I feel is so far away:
I'm a bad dream that I just had today
    And you shake your head
    And say it's a shame"...
