Watching from the U.S. I have always wanted to try food from all around the globe. It was a dream to travel the world for a taste of the food and the culture. Now, this is done via the computer. I am able to watch people make the dishes of their culture and do my best to replicate them here. There is no comparison to the real deal - but this is the best I can do for now. Thank you for the wonderful demonstrations, recipes, entertainment, and history of the food item.
Dear Refika, Here in Hungary we have an amazing lady who providesTurkish cousine courses. She taught me to bake Simit (and lots of other Turkish food) a year ago. Since then, the whole family and my colleagues are addicted to Turkish food :). I wish I could post the picture of my first simit. Lots of love from Hungary ❤️
I live in Switzerland and I'm very lucky to have a Turkish supermarket 300 meters from where I live. I can buy a simit or two before I go to work or when I go back home.
Husband came off the plane from Turkiye with a bag of simits... at my request. Had I known about freezing them... I would have asked for more. Now, you have taught me to make our own simits~ thank you and bless you.
Oh dear Barbara, simit means a lot to Turkish culture & society. It means a good company to your cup of tea, a little bite to share with seagulls and so much more... I am happy to hear that you loved it. Enjoy! Lots of love ❤️
Dear Rafika, I am Italian married to a Serbian woman who says Simit in Serbian is called Djevrek, and we tried to make it as per your recipe, and it's great, my wife was very happy as it turned same as in her country ! we used your tip for the stones in the oven, great one , thank you ! my son likes it too ! Greetings from Spain !
I’m so excited for this recipe, but I’m more excited that I’m going to live in Istanbul for 3 months and can’t wait to try all these yummy Turkish foods. Love Turkey
When you threw simit to the seagulls on the ship, it reminded me of that song "İstanbul'da Olmak":) I lived in Istanbul in the 90s, when that song came out. Those were good times.
We have these sold on the streets too in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. In small shacks, dedicated only to selling "Simid". We also have a bread factory called "Simid" here. Great video!
We have Simit in northern Iraq too because of the Turkish influance. Good childhood memories I remember used to get it every morning in the school canteen along with hot chocolate
This is such a dangerous recipe; I made the them using Burat's video and made the recipe for 4 days in a row! We're still addicted, but reserve it for the weekends. 😋 Bahar --they never make it to the freezer!!!! So delicious and addictive!
Very impressed… you are a natural teacher, not bored of repeating information for the initiates of Turkish cuisine…I loved the history and explaining types of ingredients…TOP MARKS.. from Sydney Australia of Italian descent
Always a good sign when you turn around & the crew are devouring the food like hungry wolves. I could almost smell that wonderful looking simit through the screen. Thanks to you all for the great video.
I loved this video (and all you videos)! Not only do I learn a delicious Turkish recipe, but I also learn more about Turkish history. My husband is Turkish, and we live in Texas. His mom has been influential in teaching me Turkish cuisine, and I love following your channel to learn more - you, Bahar and all the crew make me smile and remind me so much of being around my Turkish family. One of my favorite memories is waking up in the morning to the sound of the street vendors selling fresh simit. 😋. My favorite way to eat it is with white cheese and a bit of sour cherry jam. I grew up in the southern part of the US and we love our jams! I will have to try making it myself when we are homesick for Turkey. Keep cooking and keep the videos coming! We love them! 😊
I've always wanted to try it and now I made it and it's so delicious 🤌🏼😋. Whole family is amaized. Part of Türkiye is now in our serbian household.Thank you so much for sharing the recipe 🥺❤️❤️
I’ve tried so many recipes for simits that didn’t turn out well. Finally with Buraks video and now yours I can finally make simits at home like those in Istanbul. Thank you so much. I love your channel.
I am a recent subscriber and am DEVOTED to your channel. Your energy and your positive attitude combined with AMAZING videos with foods I never heard of is INFECTIOUS. I have not tried even one of these incredible recipes yet, but I feel I’m sitting right in your kitchen with you! I live in a small rural town in West Virginia in USA and do not have access to many of your ingredients, but I will pick a simple one and begin. I just watched the Grand Turkish Breakfast video before this one and loved the idea of adding ingredients to olives. You are the one who introduced this idea to me. The jams look incredibly delicious as well. I hope I find a video in which you make some. Thank you so much for such entertaining and informative videos. By the way, you are a beautiful woman with a glowing complexion which I’m sure is a result of the healthy and delicious foods you prepare.
For the past 5 years I am a Turkophile and have tried many Turkish recipes. I have made simits but this is the most informative/interesting food channel I have come across. Can't wait to give these babies a go!
10 years ago, maybe a bit longer we did a thing called blind booking where you book a plane ticket not knowing your destination. My friends and i ended up in istanbul. This was so amazing and we ate a lot of simit there. Back home i went on the internet trying to find a recipe for simit and i couldn't find one. Then i forgot about it and now you reminded me of all that and i will make some simit today and sent my friends who went with me to istanbul a picture of them.
I made this Simit recipe for the first time today, what a success! My whole family LOVES them! Thank you so much for sharing, this was so fun to make :)
Simit. Just divine and one of the wonderful foods that remind me I am in Turkey. When flying home from Turkey, its a Simit and a Turkish tea at the airport as the last meal before come back to UK. Oh! You reminded me of how we used to get this simid back home in Lebanon (we call it kaak or asrieh which means evening in Arabic bc it was available mostly in the evening). We had it with cheese and olives and mortadella and other things. It was a real treat!

Merhaba! I didn't know you are a TV personality, it's nice to see your younger days video . I've been to Turkey 3 times and my boyfriend is a Turkish 🇹🇷! Turkey holds a special place in my heart. Due to the pandemic,we cannot visit Turkey.Your videos every week is something I look forward to. Especially seeing the view of Istanbul, makes me so happy .
The Şemsi Paşa mosque she mentions in the video is also called "Kuş konmaz Camii" by us locals which roughly translates into "The mosque where birds don't perch." Thank you Refika Abla, I didn't know that Şemsi Paşa was the one who came up with the idea of baking a simit. There's also a famous tongue twister in Turkish containing the name Şemsi Paşa, you can try it out if you're learning Turkish. It goes like this: Şemsi Paşa pasajındaki sesi büzüşesiceler.
Amazing! We have been buying them for over twenty years in a small Turkish bakery in Utrecht, the Netherlands, and now we can make them ourselves! Inspired by Bahar's coffee break, could you make an episode about Turkish coffee?
Hello. My name is Maria. First time seeing your video. I watch Turkish series all the time. Also been wanting to make some of the things they eat in the series and their tea (had the tea before and love it). Enjoyed watching this specific video on how to make the famous traditional Simit and the history behind it. I will definitely make it this weekend with my husband. Also, I will cooking a traditional soup called Turkish Yogurt Soup (Yayla Corbasi). Looking forward in watching more amazing recipes and stories. You were very entertaining and your team. Thank you
Simit my love ❤❤. My husband eats it with kaşar! Everytime i come back from Istanbul, i bring simit and kaşar with me. Thanks for the recipe! When you do it, it seems so easy to do 😅 Hopefully my husband can make it as easily as you do 🌶🙏🤞🧿🍀 Thank you all very muchhhh 🤗🤗👏👏

Merve Uçar tashakurla derem!
I just moved to Turkey from West Africa and I absolutely love simit.
Wait ... buy rock salt and grind it everyday?! GENIUS! I've never heard that from any chef!
Science brain power!
This way you don't have anti-caking agents in it. The same process is great with Himalayan salt too.
I keep Himalayan seat salt in my salt grinder.
Seems so obvious now! Lol
I love simit. And I loved the story about Şemsi Paşa. Hello from Togliatti, Russia ❤️
When you threw simit to the seagulls on the ship, it reminded me of that song "İstanbul'da Olmak":) I lived in Istanbul in the 90s, when that song came out. Those were good times.

Thank you for sharing!!!
I loved the history lesson behind this bread! It also looks much less fussy than bagels. I will have to try. Thank you!
