Been carrying the 67 grain xd in my g17 and the 90 grain xd in my g26 for a long time now and ya I was kinda wondering why these didn't catch on.
I know the penetration with the extreme defender does go past the fbi standard and closer to 20" in a full size gun but I feel alot better putting this stuff in a sub compact as the flutes do slow it down pretty well just not as dramatically as expanding ammo.
Honestly the only real reason iv kept this stuff in my carry guns is because bullet set back seems to be non existent with copper projectiles so I can chamber it 100 times and it will still be the exact same aol as the rest of the mag.

Thanks! I’ve been waiting to see your test on these in 45acp! Choosing a short and standard length barrel was perfect and demonstrated that it just doesn’t matter with this ammo. Car windshields, car doors, walls, bone, heavy clothing that JHP fail and even several bullet resistant glass tests have shown that it just doesn’t fail. Yet also doesn’t have crazy unpredictable results that ball ammo can produce such as wild over penetration with small wound channels or changes in direction due to bone or tissue.
Can’t wait to see some detailed 10mm testing!

It is fascinating to see how the Underwood Extreme bullets perform in gel. I'm hesitant to jump on using them as a self-defense round for a few reasons. There is yet to be sufficient street data relating to the performance of these bullets. Gel tests were developed to give an idea of how FMJ and hollow points perform primarily with expansion and penetration. So, it makes me uncertain if the damage seen in gel properly correlates with actual damage in flesh. I'll be sticking with what has been proven. Though I'm keeping my eye on these. They just might be proven in time.

Things to consider: I have a Glock 30S. 10 rounds. That’s about a 1000 grains less than the standard 230 grains. About two ounces less to carry. Also consider, other than the disruption in the gel it is already “expanded” compared to a 9 mm being .45. So no chance of failure like a normal HP. Very good speed (above +P for normal 9mm) a win win in my opinion.

As you know short barrels and 45acp are a tricky combo. This test had the 3.5” Colt and the cloth so it is the closest result to what we might see in your G30 at 3.8”. But hoping you might run a test using this ammo and maybe two others in the G30 to try to see what works well in that short barrel. The G29 doesn’t seem to care and all the 10mm ammo just works fine in any barrel length.

After shooting the other big name (range) ammo, the 1500 ft/sec rated Underwood was, for me, the discovery of REAL 10mm. After nearly a hundred rounds, my right wrist was ready to call it a day. As far as .45 goes, I have never considered it for defense, but in a pinch I might rely on---you guessed it----230 grain FMJ. What the hell, it worked in practice.

From what I've seen of other calibers in this ammo type it doesn't seem to matter what bRrel length you use or what barrier is in the way they all penetrate to roughly the same distance. Some pretty amazing wound channels too I might add. I carry the 90gr +p 9mm in my edc. Might try thr underwood 45 super for my HK and see how she likes it. Some crazy energy levels out of that stuff. Good test as always man!

T & T I have enjoyed this video as well as a few others since August of ‘22! This ammunition deserves a second chance from me. I’m also not a big fan of230 gr ball. I and at least my mentor have been using 185 gr and 200 gr ammo since the mid 1990’s. I have a thirty plus year old Colt Gold Cup, Colt Officer and a Norinco knock off that have never given me any trouble with the lighter faster bullets.

The disruption in the gel has a lot to do with the placement of the bullet. The lower shots don't get the 360-degree expansion [wound channel] that the uppers get. The lower shots were affected by being near the base. They might have turned around because of this.

Thanks for the test. As I was trolling through the bazillion comments, I kept seeing repeated wants of people asking and wishing to see a 45 ball comparison in conjunction with this test. I saw that you mentioned each time that you almost had sent one into the block. Please do next you can to satiate this incessant need of some to see a 45 ball round overpenetrate in a straight line, leaving a narrow channel with no disruption for 32" so these people can get it out of their systems, seeing as the tons of other you tube examples of 45 ball in gel tests doing the same thing over and over again isn't enough for them. Maybe when you test 45 ball through gel it will actually do something hugely amazing and unseen that it hasn't to this point. You know, marinate the round in magic pixie dust all night before the test so that the magic 45 ball round does a trick like perform between an HST, an Extreme Defender, and tactical nuclear weapon.

Brian, I do believe John Browning would be thrilled with the Lehigh line, except he might be jealous he didn't think of it himself! These bullets are, in my not-so-humble opinion, the absolute best bullets money can buy! The consistent penetration, even with the varying velocities, the wound channel deformation and the ability to penetrant barriers and continue to work make these bullets as close to a wonder bullet as we are likely to ever see, short of something nuclear or a disruptor beam weapon (in the 40 watt range, of course!). I believe I have lived to see the pinnacle of bullet development! I am now carrying the Lehigh Xtreme Defender in all of my carry guns in all calibers! The ARX is another fine bullet but I do wonder about it's ability to penetrate the harder barriers? I have done no testing with them at all, since I am quite happy with the Lehigh's.
Yeah, I know, I sound like a Lehigh shill but I am not. I'm just a fan of the bullets and I believe in them and I am more than willing to share what testing I have done and seen others do. Including a u tube vid of a freshly killed 125lb pig that had been shot in the the neck with a 300 BO, then shot in the shoulder shortly thereafter with a 9mm 90 gr Lehigh. The only way to describe what was between the entrance hole and bullets final resting spot under the hide of the off side, is mush! These bullets are not magic nor are they some kind of gimmick! They just work and work well!
    Cheers,
    jc

Sure would be nice if you critiqued the 460 Rowland. With those 135 gr Lehighs you’re looking at close to 1900 fps out of a five inch barrel. That’s 300 blackout level velocity ( my hunting loads are 2000 fps with a 125 gr bullet) That would put a big smile on john browning’s face if he knew his 1911 could easily be beefed up with a heavier spring and barrel to be the equivalent of a 44 magnum😊

I’m very confused at the difference in performance between the 3.5” and the 5” while there was more than a 10% difference in velocity. I think John Browning actually would approve. Every cartridge he ever introduced was loaded with light low b.c. Bullets it just didn't really make sense to shoot such high b.c. Long heavy bullets in a handgun. Iraqveteran8888 did a video on this a few years back but apparently John Browning was a critic who didn't approve of 230 grain loading in 45 ACP and wished for a 200 or 185 grain loading. Keep in mind John Browning designed the 1911 but not the 45acp cartridge. It makes sense everything else he designed was mostly with light bullets but monolithic projectiles didn't exist at the time he was alive. Personally I lean towards the 185gr Barnes dpx and the 185 gr Hornady American Gunner!

  • @Oct14cya
    @Oct14cya ปีที่แล้ว

When it comes to testing these types of projectiles it looks extremely impressive. Everyone is missing something kind of obvious. Ballistic gelatin is supposed to represent a density comparable to tissue- muscle tissue. I don’t think there’s a human being with that much muscle. Once your past the skin, fat,and muscle you hit, obviously the organs which are mostly hollow. Your intestines, stomach, lungs, even the heart is made up of hollow chambers filled with blood. They might make a slightly larger hole in walls of the organs but not much more than an FMJ. In areas where the temperature can go very low,in the winter, these rounds might be a good choice as people are going to be bundled up with layers of clothing. I’ll stick with my 230 gr. HSTs in .45 ACP as they have the ability to expand to .75 of an inch.
