This looks like a fun and interesting project that would attract kids. I'm a locksmith, and I like working with wood for fun. Both of those have been life long obsessions for me, so this would have really gotten my attention as a kid. Pretty cool. Thanks for sharing.
I like it as a donation box for our makerspace This only keeps honest people honest so it works as a local donation collection box. It allows us not to have baby locks .
Easy way to get the dials cut, go to the hardware store and buy closet polls that you would hang shirts on. They come in different diameters and you only have to cut your width you want.
Hi Stumpy, I just uploaded a video of my copy of your safe. Although it isn't done yet, needs final sanding and lacquer, plus numbering the dials, it will be awhile before I get that done, but I wanted to share it with you anyway. Made of Walnut, 6 didget combo.
Lovely design. Only drawbacks are not being able to change the code, and it not being very secure (not talking about the strength of the wood). Somebody could probably put pressure on the sliding lock and just rotate one of the numbers, and feel a slight shift when it hits the notch. Still pretty good for a wooden safe though.
+theo huisman It's a replaceable insert. But this version was built with the insert too far forward. It should be under the bit. I should toss it and make a new one, but I haven't had time.
Very nice project, but in my opinion you should cover the mechanism much better. People who know the mechanism can find out the correct position and crack the code. Esiest way to hide the mechanism : put the mechanism a bit deeper in the doors, then both sides of mechanism wheels will be covered and people could have problem with trying crack it...
you know what would be hilarious a safe with really thick steal walls and a wood outside so it looks like wood so when someone trys to get in they won't be able to
+Wayne Jones - You must be referring to the shaking? I've done that all my life. It's only noticeable when I try to hold something still. It's a medical mystery.
if you made the door first before worrying about the box you could have used it to assure the latch lined up without having to drill all the way through the wall of your box... other than that, good video
I tried to, but the top of the, thing, was off so if you can, I would like to see, but if you can't I will find the other side to place a Whaterhanger on so that the witchayoucallit can turn the tire cam on the far side. Other wise it's amazing what you find on, well it was intarsizing.ed
Can't one just look in kind of at an angle and see that the numbers exposed are not notched? Couldn't one visually see which numbers are the correct ones and crack it?
@@jords1979 what if someone doesn't want siblings or such getting in. Or maybe they think it might not look the best if it's a project they need to do for something.
Can please someone help me making this.. I'm not so great with this I guess but I would love to give it as a present for my boyfriend.. Is there maybe anyone who wants to make this for me? I would like to slightly make some adjustments though I would want it a little bit bigger and with 4 diggets I'm ready to pay for it! Can someone please help?
Woh, back up. I don't know if this is covered in the 150 comments before me, but the way you used the strap clamp and corner fixture didn't do anything to clamp the box if the finger joints extend beyond the face of the wood. All you are doing is squeezing the pieces of wood from opposite ends which adds zero pressure on the joint.
LOL. Not trying to irritate anyone. I guess it's just a reflection of being in the locksmith industry for 20 years. Seeing the word safe attached to it, I just expected more.
First of all, no one cares that you have been in the locksmith industry and second of all the title is "WOODEN SAFE" so don't come along shaming people on it. If you thought about the title and looked at the thumbnail you could have realized that it isn't unbreakable.
+Stumpy Nubs (James Hamilton) Was just a joke. I apologize if it came off as insensitive. I'm a new sub and I'm becoming a big fan of your work. I hope you don't hold my poor attempt at humor against me.
Nice to see a fun, not overly technical woodworking project. This would make my children go nuts.

Made my safe. Didn't take long at all, and now that I have done one, the next will be so much easier.
Thanks for the video.

Not half bad. Very clever design.
dude, your one of the few people who have my respect
Cool project! Definitively on my todo-list this winter and make it to my kids!
I really like how you explain what your doing as you build it
You have a great explaining voice :)
Nice! I think I will add that to my list of to make in the future.
Great ideas, great job and great collection of tools....... Wow.
Sweet!
+Nick Ferry - Thanks, Nick!

Neat little project! Loved the background music in this video.
+WigWagWorkshop - I like music in videos. My wife doesn't. I tell her "too bad."
Great project for kids eager to get into dads shed and build something cool!
Really a cool build, thanks for sharing with us.
I love this project, very nice work.
Keep well both of you.
Clever. I like that! 👍👍
love that thing, really cool lock! I have to add it to my to-do-list....
Great father son project!
+Dathan Swick - You can also use different colors of paint to make dots instead of numbers on the dials.
thanks for the great project idea. Simple easy and any kid would love it.
Here comes one of my xmas gifts. Cool project. Great job mate!
Nice. I added this one to me 'todo eventually' list.
+Willem Kossen - Glad you liked it!
that looks like a fun project for the kids. thanks for sharing
+ShadeTreeCNC - I had a blast, and I don't even have kids :)
How did you make that?
It's cool!

I like it James pretty cool
Very cool and simple
bonjour
svp avez vous des plans disponibles
merci
hello please have you a free plans for it
thank's
Hi, can you explain me the purpose of the inlay in your drill-press (@ 5.13), or is it for dummies?
+theo huisman It's a replaceable insert. But this version was built with the insert too far forward. It should be under the bit. I should toss it and make a new one, but I haven't had time.
+Stumpy Nubs (James Hamilton) Now you need to renew your drill-press table, because you damaged/destroyed this one :-)
+theo huisman - We are actually working on that for a future issue of Stumpy Nubs Woodworking Journal :)
hello, where can i get the plans for this design?
very beautiful for decoration, I liked it! but of course it is unsafe to keep something important in it 😀
This is gem
I really like this video, thumbs up!!
do you have the plans for it?
+Gilbert Chircop - Everything is in the video, including measurements, etc.
Very nice. Could have gotten them tolerances a bit closer with the CNC router though.
+crispyspa - True, but I still enjoy regular old woodworking! :)

Nice stumpy I will make one for My boys!
+Martijn Fransen - If you have "boys" you'd better make one for each! And let them pick their own combinations so they can hide stuff from each other!
any advice on restoring an old plane?
+Oisín Brady - I have LOTS of advise! I'll be making some videos about it in future issues of our e-magazine on our website.
Thanks. 👍Good idea
you know what would be hilarious a safe with really thick steal walls and a wood outside so it looks like wood so when someone trys to get in they won't be able to
Nice project
+Mc_Pyro - Glad you liked it!
I can just carry the whole thing and run 😂
What if you're more worried about fire than theft?
Keep the safe wet so it won't burn.
brett knoss store it in a pool, I assure that you valuables will be safe.
Maybe store the safe in a fire blanket lmao
Cover. It with. A thick. Layer of concrete to. Keep it safe from. Fires. ?
I think you forgot the insulation to keep the "cold ones" cold 😎
G'day James, just wondering, are you okay health wise. Just wondering. Keep well.
+Wayne Jones - You must be referring to the shaking? I've done that all my life. It's only noticeable when I try to hold something still. It's a medical mystery.
+Stumpy Nubs (James Hamilton) I have the same malady, makes putting little things together much more fun.
where from i buy it
But that's awesome tbh I'd love to make one of those if I had the tools
Very Nice Indeed
amazing & well done.
You are smart.
hey mate could you make it bigger if you wanted to?
I don't see why not
if you made the door first before worrying about the box you could have used it to assure the latch lined up without having to drill all the way through the wall of your box... other than that, good video
Cool Mr Nubs.
+David Bishop - Thanks Mr. Bishop!
nice job!
+Robert srnec - Thanks!
You can make it with cardbord
Hmmm.... Super-size it and make it as a fake cover for my gun safe... Maybe change it to a 10 digit combination though...
wow, pretty cool!
very good
How to make this drill
مبدع بس انا ولله كمان ارشدتني لطريقة

neat-a-rummpy-stumpy
Hey, just what I need: a safe that can be cracked with a match!
It's a toy, dude.
*How to make a wooden safe*
Now, how to make an axe?
Can make Toller and wider
dam you are clever!!
Cool!
I would have used my right angle drill to make the last whole inside the box
I could figured the combination of that box in 30 seconds.
You can solve a toy in less than a minute? You must be some kind of genius!
Stumpy Nubs shut up
Can't one just look in kind of at an angle and see that the numbers exposed are not notched? Couldn't one visually see which numbers are the correct ones and crack it?
To fix that issue, one would only need to make and glue on a thin, decorative panel that would cover everything but the knobs.
Or just smash it. Designed for fun i imagine rather than keeping the family jewels.
@@jords1979 what if someone doesn't want siblings or such getting in. Or maybe they think it might not look the best if it's a project they need to do for something.
you could easily feel for the holes when working the mechanism, its just a fun project
calls himself stumpynubs
not a single finger missing
nice
Kool
Could you make me one
your back panel should be fioating
Wow. Lots of chances to screw it up.
Can please someone help me making this..
I'm not so great with this I guess but I would love to give it as a present for my boyfriend..

I'm guessing you don't pay attention to tools. Those clamps are designed with pressure points that press onto the joint. box joint cawls.
it safe puggy bank
Please
You could just set it on fire to get into it
Patrick Higham you will light everything in side on fire too
but if its a safe and it holding something like metal it wouldn't burn
I can show people how to make a better safe on my channle a carberd ken-x safe actually! I'm a engineer I can design anything that you asked me to
A wizard world For kids you may be an engineer, but at least he's grammatically correct.
Cool! Got a link to that video? I'll add it to my project list.

😀😀😀😀😀😂😂😂😂😂
bro why are you shacking so much
Nice little box. But it's not a safe!
Seriously? You mean I shouldn't put my gold bars inside a wooden toy?
Hey, it keeps honest people honest
LOL. Not trying to irritate anyone. I guess it's just a reflection of being in the locksmith industry for 20 years. Seeing the word safe attached to it, I just expected more.
Glen AW make it from steal than this is an exsample how to do it wrom where to start wich is common problem for anyone

it's nice but not very practical haha!
mama chat
This is no even for kids
I don't like it
Looks like Nubs needed a shot of whiskey before filming. He seems a little shaky.
+luckigolfer - Or a different medical condition could be the reason... but hey, jumping to alcoholism was fine...
