    Eric and Colleen, I just learned the history of why we equate Easter with bunny and eggs. I sound like Colleen but I saw it on TikTok. It’s mind blowing. Easter was a pagean holiday first that symbolizes the onset of spring and fertility. Eggs = fertility bunnies= well you know. It’s goes much more into depth that I have presented in this comment but look it up!

    Hi, this is a longtime German viewer here:
    Yes, we do have the Osterhase for Easter that hides eggs all over the place and yes many do celebrate Saint Nicholas, which is the night between the 5th and 6th of December, so not actually on Christmas. A tradition is to clean your shoes and place them outside the front door or before the door to your room and Saint Nicholas will come and put sweets and treats in them, which is probably how Christmas stockings in the US became a thing, now that I think about it.
    Also: I think Flynn's song is a sign that you finally need to get a third cat. 😏🤩

    • @TheSkinnyZ
      @TheSkinnyZ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Oh, one more thing:
      As far as I know Jesus was crucified pretty much right after the last supper, so he would've died in the night from Thursday to Friday and risen again between Sunday and Monday (?) Over here in Germany Easter is actually on those two days. Idk if other parts of the world might also do two days of Easter. 🤔

    About the Easter and Christmas questions: the reason why bunnies and eggs are a part of Easter is because of the origin of Easter. Easter was originally Pagan and celebrated the fertility goddess Ishtar or Eostre, which is also where the name comes from! It was originally meant to celebrate Spring and the new season/rebirths.. hence the eggs and bunnies since they're so fertile. The meaning of Easter was changed to more Christian ideas by missionaries who forced Pagans to convert.
    The same thing happened with Christmas which was originally Yule. Yule was/is a Pagan holiday celebrating giving back to nature. So they would leave gifts like food underneath trees outside, for wildlife!
    All love to you guys and your celebrations of these holidays! I just wanted to explain because of that segment!

    For my family, we're somewhere between Erik and Colleen's experiences. I grew up catholic so we would dress up and go to church in the morning and then we would have a big egg hunt with the neighbors and have a big meal (think christmas) and open easter baskets and stuff. We never did like a big gift thing though like Colleen's white elephant this year.

    Colleen was right about Easter. I celebrated it pretty similarly to how she described how she celebrates it. We don't do much for Easter now though other than a lunch or dinner with some family. I'm with Miranda on the cereal container thing. My mom will occasionally put the cereal in those containers if there's a lot of cereal in the pantry. It's mostly just rolled up the bags in the boxes.

    also good friday is the crucified and the reason it’s 3 days later is because it was friday morning he died also it’s palm sunday the sunday before easter i hope you see this because i think it would help! Palm sunday is jesus’ entry into jerusalem before he suffered and was crucified. ALSO the reason it’s called good friday is because the reason he died was for the forgiveness of of sins which is a good thing he did it willingly for us. I hope this helped! 3:00 I love when Flynn does his truck of the day. I also love Flynn’s outfit. I cannot get over how adorable Flynn is. He is goofy, and I love his energy. 22:29 I am still listening. Ash wednesday is the last day of lent, Good fridy is technically when lent ends, and when Jesus died on the cross. Easter Sunday is when he rose from the cross. Easter is the celebration of when Jesus died for our sins on the cross.

  • @letche412

    easter is a pretty big deal for us since we live in a primarily Catholic country so we usually celebrate by going on trips 😂 to answer about good friday, i think the saying is "on the third day, He rose from the dead" meaning friday was the 1st day since it was the day he died, then saturday was the second and sunday was the third. i don't have an answer for why it's called "good" friday though
    also i also used to have a problem with chapped lips until i started doing this routine! yes, aquaphor helps i use it every night, then the next day after i take a shower or wash my face (as long as my lips are soaked) i scrub the dead skin off with my towel before i brush my teeth. if i'm putting makeup on for the day i use aquaphor again before putting on lipstick or lip tint. hope this helps!

    This past Easter was my first one after leaving the high-demand religion I was raised in. I consider myself agnostic at this point, and don’t really believe in Jesus Christ. My husband and I really just played into the commercialism of Easter and spent the day together. Honestly, it was great. Our parents/siblings still all celebrate a Jesus-centered Easter which is totally fine. We got together for a meal with both families and an Easter egg hunt with my family, and my 3.5 year old loved it.
    Also, I hate dying eggs too. It’s so messy. This year we got an “egg spinner” from Target and my toddler loved it- it was way less prep and mess.

Jewish people (like me 😊) follow the Hebrew calendar and Good Friday (I believe) is not even on that. That is the reason why Passover doesn’t always line up with Easter and Hannukah doesn’t always line up with Christmas. The different calendars make it so jewish holidays are on different days practically every year.
    Thanks for being so amazing and happy Easter, Passover, or whatever you celebrate!

    Easter is a “thing” for most people who believe. It just sounds like Erik doesn’t so that’s why it’s not a big deal for him.

    • @brooklynnwhite3074

      I mean to be fair, Christmas is a tradition for most non-religious people because it makes sense from a secular perspective. There is still a lot to do regarding family, decorating, and the rest of all of the stuff that was secular and pagan anyway. Easter is specifically a religious holiday and besides the bunny, eggs, and baskets for kids, there is literally no reason for anyone not religious to celebrate, or even anyone from a different religion either. Like Ramadan is a religious holiday specifically and for those who celebrate, it is a very valid "thing," but no one secularly partakes in Ramadan, at least not commonly, because it is specifically a religious tradition for people that follow Islam. I know you can argue Christmas is a specific religious holiday too, but without the nativity and church, there are still a lot of traditions that make it something that can be a secular thing worth "celebrating."

    • @MultiCheeseme
      @MultiCheeseme 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Actually Easter and it's traditions was created by pagans, so what's more strange is religious people making pagan holidays religious and then acting righteous when they talk about "their" holidays and how they were first created to celebrate Jesus when that's not the case at all. Many gods and goddesses were celebrated on Easter way before Jesus.

    • @morganwilliams2002
      @morganwilliams2002 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@brooklynnwhite3074 completely agree! With my comment, I was specifically talking about people who do believe, it being an important day for them. It just seemed to me from Erik’s comments he particularly didn’t like the holiday for religious reasons. (Before anybody comes for me, I could care less about anybody’s beliefs. You should be allowed to believe or not believe whatever you want.)

      ehh I think it's more that churches use specific scripture to push whatever narrative they have at the moment..no one really uses the Bible to preach love ...which is the only thing repeated all thru out. most organizations r just tryin to guilt you into giving them all ur money, they don't care where u end up

    I grew up celebrating Easter, and we aren’t even religious. I probably would’ve said it was my second favorite holiday. We would get Easter baskets with candy and other stuff like bubbles and sunglasses. We’d get swimsuits or beach toys or outside toys or sometimes bigger stuff like bikes. And egg hunts were huge.
    One thing that has always confused me about the Ballingers is the way they dye eggs *on Easter.* We always dye them a few days before.

    Erick you and Flynn need to finish writing "Hunt for Cats". Flynn is just too cute and funny. When I was a kid we went to church. My mom also sewed our dresses. We got new Easter shoes and an Easter hat. We always wore little white gloves. Easter bunny came when we were sleeping. We would leave out our empty Easter baskets and carrots for the bunny. We woke up to a basket full of candy. We never got presents just candy. After church we would go to my grandparents house and have dinner and fun with all of our cousins, Aunts, Uncles and grandparents. It was so much fun. We colored eggs the week before Easter and ate lots of eggs that week. We did the same with our kids as they were growing up. I am not sure when it turned into a huge gift giving holiday. We celebrated the gift that Jesus gave us when he died in our place and had risen. It was a fun holiday but we didn't hunt for eggs or play games etc. But I remember it being a very happy. I know Colleen you will do amazing on tour. All of you have a wonderful time. Erik and Colleen these will be great memories for you to cherish in your heart. Hugs and blessings

    The ideas of bunnies and eggs at Easter time come from pagan fertility traditions that happen around solstice. The idea of bringing a tree into the home for Christmas is also rooted in pagan tradition, as well as the idea of Halloween.

  • @whatcanidooo

    So I’m with both Colleen and Eric on this one. Eric is right that it doesn’t make sense that Easter is about both the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus, but also eggs and bunnies, and that is because the spring eggs and bunnies part of it were usurped from pagan springtime holidays by Christians. So Easter is basically a holiday that already existed that Christians retroactively made about Jesus, which is why it doesn’t make sense.
    But Colleen is right that Easter was a big deal and is really fun! I mean c’mon, a holiday that is about crafts and nature is great, and Easter egg hunts were ridiculously fun. My family wasn’t religious and we basically just celebrated it without the Jesus part, so I grew up thinking it was just about spring. Some might say that the rebirth of Jesus parallels the rebirth/growing of plants in springtime, though

    • @gracetheday
      @gracetheday 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Celebrating Easter is to participate in worshipping other gods, specifically this goddess Eostre not Jesus Christ or God Jehovah of the Holy Bible. It's a deception that it's Christian because it's not following Christ in actuality.

    The Easter Topic: & I grew up & still live in Iowa... it was HUGE for us - just as big as Christmas - we'd color eggs & leave them out for the Easter bunny to hide n then we'd wake up super excited to not only hunt them but to hunt for our baskets that he left for us which always had tons of candy - a kite to play with - bubbles - stuffed animals - jewelry for the girls and not just lil kid jewelry - nice jewelry that I still have & wear to this day (I'm 43 btw) - we'd get new clothes - then the cousins n nieces n nephews would come over n we'd all compare baskets & have a huge Easter dinner - literally the best time!! & we still do it!!

    Sorry Erik, I’m with Colleen on Easter being a fun holiday. Growing up it was one of the few holidays I got to spend with my mom’s side of the family which made it special but we use to go all out as well. The Saturday before Easter, the town my grandparents lived in hosted an Easter hat parade and my family would go all out with our hand made hats to try and win the most prizes. And then on Sunday we’d get up and go to sun rise service and eat breakfast with the whole church community. Then some years we’d go back to church for the regular service but most of the time we’d come home, open our Easter baskets, and do an Easter egg hunt (both a kids and adults version). I never really cared so much for the religious aspects of the holiday, it was more the time with family that made it special and something to look forward to.
