Im 20 years old, and all of a sudden recently I began thinking about dying and stuff, I don't want to die, I have been paranoid about it for the last 3 days.. I guess its out of my control and it is what it is, I hope there's something after death, if there isn't, I won't care... I'll be dead... Ugh this sucks why are we born to have to go through the agony of dying...
We've all been there. Certainly since early childhood for me.
My very first fear of OLD AGE anxiety attack FIRST occurred on my 13th birthday, because I then suddenly realized - I am now a teenager for the very first time! Fear-of-aging (which is separate from but certainly can overlap with fear of death) anxiety attacks never happened on my birthday, but on random times in my life:
when I turned about 30.5, and I got desperate for a girlfriend in 1994, and again about 41.5, in November 2005.
A SEVERE depression about the passage of time & nostalgia.
That said, my mind has mostly (most of the time) refocussed on an INTENSE curiousity to scientifically explore & study death, much like that cool 1990 movie "Flatliners", whose basic plot I pondered to myself long before 1990.
Wonder Boy yea that's crazy I been recently thinking bout it too and I just turned 39 and never thought about it before. Do some searches for out of body experiences or NDE's. there's soooooooo many people who can describe in great detail what they saw and some things they couldn't have seen or known otherwise. I feel these millions of testimonies is at the very least, evidence for an afterlife of some sort. I've heard good theories like our brains are like a radio receiver and the "YOU" yer personality etc is the signal that only your brain is tuned to receive. Yea sounds nuts I know but do some research on astral projection. The shit is real but not fully explained by science yet. Anyway, you'll eventually get habituated to that fear and it won't bother you as much anymore

*edit, 3 years later* : yo! i still have people replying to this comment years later. i can't believe i used to be this scared. nowadays, its different. some of us are scared of dying because we dont wanna hurt our loved ones, or we dont want to experience the afterlife, or we dont think we lived our lives well enough. so heres some advice: if you are so scared of dying to the point of that you literally googled this (i know damn well this didnt come in your recommended) dont worry. im not religious so i dont believe in a heaven or hell. maybe reincarnation but anyway, the thing is; you have to live life up to the fullest, and be grateful for what you have! although this depends on your beliefs, you only live once. so dont waste it being terrified. yes you will die one day, we all will. but old people are like...so ready to die, they never really mind lmao. you will grow out of this fear, i promise. just like i did, and also old people. old people always be shrivelled up in their hospital bed like smiling before they die, u wanna know why? cuz they lived their life to the fullest! they chose a profession they WANTED TO DO, or married the person they WANTED TO MARRY.. so stop WASTING YOUR TIME HERE CRYING (like i did) and MAKE SOMETHING OF YOUR LIFE, maybe learn a language? learn french and go to paris for some years. or learn to play the piano. or learn how to solve the rubix cube so you can flex. you control your life. make people WANT to remember you!! now this wont apply to everyone; someone might be coming here because theyre dying of cancer, so if anyone wants to talk, talk with me

We had a aunt in Mexico die in the 80's and we couldn't go to the funeral because in Mexico they do funerals quick. So we missed it and had no knowledge of it. Few years later
My uncle was rushed to the hospital because of his appendix. Just before the operation his appendix exploded, and he died on the operation table.
He said he saw a white light of a women in a beautiful white wedding dress. As she got closer he saw it was his aunt that died! She looked like a bride. She reached out for his hand and before he could hold it, she backed out and said"oh... I just found out it isn't your time." And disappeared.
He then woke up in the hospital room healing.
He called his family in Mexico about the vision he had, and when my uncle described that she was wearing a wedding dress, there was silence. They said, "how did you know she was buried in her wedding dress when you weren't even here?"
No one ever told him.
My family including myself have had spiritual events happen to us. And yes I believe in God and always will. He is what fills me and gets rid of fear.
After what has happen to us with unexplainable events, how can we not believe?

My grandma is almost immortal she got hit by a bus and should've died but she lived, before that when she was a kid she pretty much died but she lived, then she got stabbed in the back by a cabinet and while she was half alive and half dead she saw the land in the middle of heaven and hell and she described it as a beach. In conclusion there is a chance of an afterlife
I don't know who you are, I dont know where you are now, but I'm 14 and you just cured everything. I have faith that I'll come back and reunite with my parents, friends, wife, and kids. I am a christian myself and this just motivated me to get my life together. I'm not the best person alive but this comment just changed me. Thank you.

Stelios vafeiadhs dude there is literally nothing to worry about. Many people get confused about not existing, thinking that only your body is gone . This isn't true when you die you have no emotions, fear suffering or awareness, and if you're religious just know that if you live a good life and have faith you will be rewarded.

I’ve had this problem since I was 5 years old
Same here I used to get so scared I would cry myself to sleep but recently I have been telling myself that I will be born again in another body and have all my memories form my current life erased and that this has happened to me countless times before aswell. And it will keep happening for eternity. I have tricked myself into believing something that I don't even know is true but to be honest with u I've been much better lately
Edit: I have been worried about death for the last 3 yrs and I'm 13. Most nights I go to sleep at 11 or 12 in the night because I'm watching utube on my phone. I do this because that way I don't think about death as much. So now I just fall asleep and only on rare occasions I think about death

I was scared I was going into depression but i don’t have suicidal thoughts I’m just scared of losing everything i love. If you experience eternal darkness, then that is an after life. I believe you will not experience anything at least not in the way we do while alive. Everything you know will be gone. You will be too.
I’m 15 and I often think about how I don’t remember my childhood that well and that I can never have it back. I have trouble sleeping, because when I’m all alone in my room I start thinking about really horrible stuff, I sometimes even cry. The meaning of life to me is to be able to free my parents from jobs, rent and basically make them enjoy life as much as possible.

Thanks brother, it was year ago this time when i first experienced the fear of death, I read your book (as a believer in Christ) with an intention to examine and i was happy to see that you pointed people to Christ, Now after a year i no longer fear death on the contrary i am even ready to die for my lord and savior Christ, God bless you. a christian need not to fear death.

im 14 and somewhat scared, im mostly scared of my family dying before me, i want to die with them yet not want to die because i want to see what happens in this world. i hope there is a way to be immortal yet not as it would cause problems...
Ok listen. Most of you in the comment still are kids. Im young too im 20 and I already see this from another perspective. Death isnt something dark. Death is what make life matter. It makes you strong thinking that you live once do what you want no regrets it up to you. If time wasnt a thing nothing would matter. Imagine being on summer vacation for 3 years...most the time would be sleep and straight up boredness. But now that its 3 months you go for trips you organize stuff with friends to have fun. If that makes you feel any better I can guarantee to you that you ll get over it in a few years. Its only natural dont worry. You think a lot about the after death stuff. Dont . First of all time doesnt exist. That forever forever you say doesnt exist. Its like you sleep for hours but you dont know it when you wake up. But if you dont wake up you never know. I might sound scary but if you think about it it isnt really. I hope you live long and well

I hope everything is fine with you now...I have the exact fear and I have thenataphobia...But let me tell you...dying wont hurt that much as the fear of dying would hurt you. Acceptance is the key. Convince yourself that there is nothing bad in being impermanent. By panicking or being in denial we are just wasting our beautiful time with our precious ones. If you think about death all the time it is consuming you even before you die. Spend time with your loved ones, click pictures, and record their voices. You have lots of time now. And believe me, as we grow up we learn to let go and the fear of death goes away. Thats why old people are not much scared of death. Best wishes for you
I always think of this when my mind is rushing at like 12am in bed. Like what if there is no after life and it's just eternal darkness that goes on forever ever ... or i'm reborn again in a different body endlessly until the sun explodes? then what . Or maybe you've died like 100 times before but just had the memory erased and your life keeps on replaying over and over again. It's hard to think the sun will explode one day and there will be no earth. But umm theres always the possibility of being born in a different planet as a different species ya know ? Okay i'm done goodnight lol

Hey y’all. I searched this here on TH-cam and I’m actually happy that I’m not the only one thinking about death. Especially recently with the world going crazy and all this COVID-19 going around. Kind of paranoid about it. It’s been so bad for me I drove myself to recent anxiety attacks now taking Ativan the minute it gets dark. Smh. Hopefully one day the fear will go away. But I always say to myself, “if Jesus went through all of that pain and died, then who am I to not want to go through pain and die?” My fear is that I don’t be right with God and that I’ll burn in Hell forever. So everyday I try to do good and the minute I make a mistake I ask for forgiveness. I’m so paranoid about life and death recently. I hope that myself and everyone on this thread gets over this horrible fear. ❤️

When a person dies (this is all according to Bible) they will be judged on what they've done by God. You have two options- try and face the judge yourself, or let Jesus take all the blame for you. If you trust Jesus to save you (he will) then you will allowed into Heaven because he already took your punishment. If not, then you have to serve the punishment yourself forever in that terrible place. It's easy to be saved, your choice now

all the sudden i started thinking about what happens after dying. i heard it was heaven, where there’s no pain or agony.. but i don’t believe that. you probably go through the same thing over and over. that’s the voice in my head telling me to be scared of dying. i get heated and get nausea when i really think about it.

This actually really helped! I’ve had lack of sleep and have been having breakdowns all over the place because of death, but I’ve been binge watching a lot of these videos and I’ve been feeling better, remember if you are going through the experience of ‘what is death’ remember we are all going through it believe me it gets better :)

I’m afraid to die, yeah I’m only 15 I’ve got my whole life ahead of me but it doesn’t matter what I do, I’ll be like everyone else and get buried in some hole and covered in dirt, I sound greedy but I want to live forever because I want to be alive when humans colonize other plants and travel the cosmos, out of our solar system. It sucks ive been born in a time period like this.
But then when I think about it, I am grateful, I have a chance to prove myself and possibly help future generations achieve the goal I wholeheartedly want to witness and that I can say is good enough.

Ok, it's truth time. You shouldn't fear death any more than you fear sleep, because death is probably sleep. You will go back to where you were before you were born, was that bad? Ok, so you don't know what it was like before you were born, neither do I. Before you were born you knew nothing, and after you die you will go back to knowing nothing. Don't fear sleep, because sleep is not bad. No hunger, no fear, no crying etc. And don't forget, we ALL go back to sleep, so when I get the news that I'm dying, I instantly know that everyone is dying, I'm just dying a little sooner than some people, and a little later than others. Plus, what are you going to miss that you've not already seen?

I've been very ill and doctors don't know what's wrong with me. Ive been rapidly losing weight no matter how much I eat, I have complications with my digestive system and immune system, and even though I have not been told it's fatal, it still could be since they haven't yet identified what's wrong. I used to be suicidal and not scared of death...but now, as a woman about to be married and who has finally found happiness and purpose in life, I'm terrified of dying. I have panic attacks about it. Just a sore throats or headache makes me wig out and want to go to the ER. This illness thingy I've got has made me a complete hypochondriac. No matter how much I try to take my mind off it, there's still a great fear of death. I believe that once you die, that's it. Lights out, like an eternal dreamless sleep. I don't see a scientific explanation to how anything else could be proven possible: I so wish an afterlife existed, I don't think I am anywhere near ready to die.

I don't know you and can't fix your digestive problems. That's something you have to work out and figure out yourself especially now that you are a grown woman. And I sincerely hope that you are able to get to the bottom of it and resolve the issue.

If you are below 20 then you have an immense timespan to go. Nothing to worry about. Once you pass the 60 / 70 mark the reality will get near.
this helps a lot i'm 11 and i'm terrified of dying and growing up and the future because my mom and my loved ones are going to die too which is scary i cry myslef to sleep at night after i realised what actually happens in life but now i'm not that scared thank you

I believe in god. I’m catholic. But I’m the back of my mind I always think to myself. If their is nothing and it’s just pitch black and I can’t feel anything. It terrifies me. And another thing that scares me is when you die you don’t have a physical form. Meaning that when the soul leaves the body it’s just kinetic energy. So when you go into heaven how are you suppose to see the people you love or even speak to them. I’m almost 15 now but I have a girlfriend that I have been together for a very long time now and I do want to spend the rest of my life with her. That’s how committed I am. But if we both have no physical form that means I won’t be able to hear, see, touch, or feel her ever again. And that makes me so sad and terrified. If heaven means that I’m alone and I can’t see any of the people I love the most that is like a hell to me. And I love my girlfriend so much. She is the only thing that makes me happy anymore. Losing her and being alone in heaven will be misery. Also when you vow “till death do us part” that mean that when you die. You and the person you have been married to will separate for eternity. Which also terrifies me. I wouldn’t be able to see her every again. Or hear her voice. That keeps me up at night. I’m scared

Doc, im a young kid. ive never had to worry about money issues or anything truly because i grew up in a really rich family, i was always care free and the nicest person you could choose out of my entire 7th grade class to hang out with and make you laugh.
A Week or two ago my family rented an rv for vacation and a long story short, we had to return due to my dads lung conditions.
i have older parents than most my friends and never though was worried about them since they seemed ok. but the night in the rv my dad said he was having trouble breathing it was hard for me to think straight and there was only a specific set of words that i couldnt stop hearing that night. ``this is the day your dad leaves you.`` he made it out fine but i didnt sleep for 3 days until i forced myself to take a couple more sleeping pills than intended.
since then i could only worry about the 3, losing my parents, losing my friends, and them losing me.
every day felt like a week and every week felt like a year and so on.
this book helped me alot and i know when i grow old and move out to find a job and such i wont fear much because your book helped me.

Something happens after we die...what ?Who knows..But i do believe
SOMETHING happens and it will not be just lights out.I try not to think
about it .The universe and the earth and all the planets,the stars,the
animals,humans and everything that exist has to have a creater and what
i believe is we all return to that creater.But who am i to know? Just
live life and smile back at death:)

Almost every night I stop and think about death and how it can be so terrible. I'm scared because I think that when I die I'm basically asleep forever which just makes me feel awful inside. But I also think about how it happens so often and only a few seem to care or take a moment to think about it. One more thing that gets me is how I will die, if love to be with my family and die peacefully. It's sad to think that as we get older life gets harder.

There is no such thing as "asleep forever."
Most are concerned about death like you but don't know what to do about it and just move on to the next day until it's too late to do anything about it.
Many just live their whole lives in fear.
But not you. You're doing something about it.
Time goes by, we get older and we can't turn back the clock.

They will only effect you for the time you are alive, so by all means, believe what ever you think is best. All that matters is that you enjoy your life :)
To those people who are afraid of death don't be. I know it sounds stupid me just saying just forget about it but come on, we all gotta die. You can't stop it, it's gonna happen and there's really nothing to do about it. I remember asking a old man how he was and he looked up at me and said, " Just waiting to die, like everyone else."

Heres my list i believe in God he is the ressurection and the life you can find this at John 11:25-26 Jesus said i am the ressurection and the life whoever that belives in me will live even though he dies and whoever that lives by believing in me will never die and actually this is true my great grandmother has been blessed by God one day she is gonna die we holded hands and prayed and then she said slowly Amen. At the moment your a spirit living a physical experience
When you die you will leave your physical body and will have a new experience in another realm with no memorys of past life potentially 😊
If you see everything as just an experience and a chapter then you will feel more relaxed about it all O know is you will be at peace either way
