- We are excited to bring the latest addition to the ATOTO line-up, the S8. We want to thank ATOTO for sending us this head unit to review. As you know, we have had a great experience with their A6 Pro in Pete's 2004 Silverado and we are excited to see how this head unit performs.
We will have a detailed review coming soon! Unfortunately we forgot to film carplay working but it works very well with the same wireless dongle we have been using for the A6 Pro.

wow...I just bought an A6, but I think I'm going to give that to my sister and get an S8. WOW that feedback and speed of that head unit is what I was expecting with the A6.

@@SimbaTheGreat I got the S8 gen 2 standard on my basic ass Civic LX and now it's a blast to drive on road trips. I got access to all kinds of stuff. It's fast.
@@chickendinner5572 yea I threw the A6 in my project car which is a 1992 Honda Accord Coupe. It’s nice but I definitely NEED the S8 for the gesture controls and speed. The A6 proves a little difficult to use and slow to respond, or really not as fast as I’d like but gets the job done for now. I also hardly drive the accord so no need for an immediate upgrade just yet.

All my android auto users go download the latest firmware as you can connect wirelessly now on the s8!

Lol it's been a good unit overall. 3 times over a couple years is pretty good. Cliff's factory head unit has freezed more in his 14 silverado haha. We'll have the review up soon!
Installed my gen 2 SO about a week ago, so far, so good. Highly recommend! The Metra conversion harness I purchased didn't have the analog SWC pin for my car so I'll likely buy another harness just to pull a pin out to make a clean connection.

@@TheSundaeDrive it's an 05 CR-V. The trim kit doesn't fit but it looks okay. I'll sort that out someday!

which gen2 did you get? I'd like to know if the gen2 standard has built in CarPlay/Android Auto?
@@bobturla It's gen 2 premium. All four of them support AA and CP, wired. The higher pro and ultra also support wireless. If you plan to heavily use AA or CP, you should check out the F7 series which is less expensive.

Yeah! It is really nice. We've been pleasantly surprised by the quality of atoto products. We won't support anything that isn't good and their head units have worked really well.
@@TheSundaeDrive Yeah and seems quite affordable as well, looked them up after watching the video as might come in handy for one of our vehicles.

I cant find a uppdate on whether you like the audio quality or not. Is it good? How many bars does the equalizer have? Great video btw!
Haven't done the update yet. Wanted to use it for a little while first but it will be coming soon!
Thinking if ordering one of these. I'm currently using the pumpkin android double din unit. My issue is the pumpkin radio is a larger size than a standard double din radio. So with this one, will I have to cut my double din dash kit to make it fit like the pumpkin android unit?? The dash kit is for standard double din radios like you'd find in stores.

Have u install this unit for 2017 Toyota Prius prime plus version with the smaller screen? This car has many steering buttons wondering if they will work.
We have not but with the right adapters it should. You'll just have to figure out the ones you need.
I am having a hard time finding a android head unit, and or a bracket etc for the Wrangler JL's I got a new 2021 JLU and want to replace the stupid 5" one. The ONLY one that actually fits the space is siecane but would cost almost $500 (They charge $64 to ship) and you can't return it if you dont like it.

Do you know how to use the fwd\backup cams as dash cams? Automatically record upon startup to sd card and auto record over every day or when the card fills up ?
I have a question. I wired up my S8 and everything works great. Only small issue I have is that at the lowest volume, it is still a little too loud. With the stock unit, I could set it to a volume level it to have it playing in the background and still be able to talk and hear the other person speaking, but right now it is just a little too loud. Is there something that I didn't wire correctly or is there a setting somewhere that I can configure to address this issue? Thank you!

Was really hoping for a comparison video. I bought an A6 Pro and am a little underwhelmed at the moment mostly because the Bluetooth playback doesn’t seem very well integrated and that screen is recessed in like it’s a frickin crt.
I got the standard on my '15 Civic and it looks great. I didn't want anything big or flashy, but needed one that performed well, I wish it was an 8 inch... So far it has been fantastic! If you're familiar with Android, this thing will do anything. It's really snappy. Road trips have been great.
Hello to you. Looking for a unit for my 4 year old to watch disney+ on our long highway rides. This looks like a good option. Can my son watch streaming video while the truck is moving? Is there some sort of hack that needs to be done like in the past with DVD head units? Thanks
As long as you don't wire up the speed sensor video in motion should work.
Do you have any problems controlling the sub volume?
I bought that radio but I was looking that for the jeep you installed it PAC C2R-CHY4 Radio Replacement Interface. With that unit is it still necessary?
Depends on the equipment your jeep has but most likely. Crutchfield is a good resource but the radio won't change it.
You bought this radio as soon as Gen 2 of this radio came out.

I would reach out to Phil gamboa - he does a lot of 14 silverado retrofits like that. Im sure it can be done.

Great video, really appreciate the realism of your reviews. I'm curious, another online review of the S8 said the screen is actually TOO bright at night, even at lowest settings it's still distracting. Any thoughts on that?
You can install a dimmer app from the play store. That was my fix

@The Sundae Drive: Hi, is 2gb ram enough to run these S8 android head unit's flawlessly without any slowdown at all? I heard 2gb is minimum and one should aim to get 4gb ram.
More ram is always better. Depends how much you leave open
Atoto A6 pro had terrible microphone performance.... Biggest issue was everyone had a tough time hearing me. Has this improved with this iteration?
I find this to be a major issue with all aftermarket headunits. Most of the replacement microphones don't look great either. I'm curious what everyone is using for a mic.
Does it turn on automatically every time you turn on the car? I prefer when I do it manually.
Yes I don't think there is any head unit that doesn't do that! It's ran on your accessorie power. So when you turn your car on It automatically turns on and when you turn off the car it turns off automatically. Have you seen a head unit not do that before?? If soo Im really curious!

We still have it installed in Pete's truck. Doing the long-term update soon.

Is the installation on these the same as the A6 pro?
Should be very similar if not identical. It was plug and play with my a6 wiring.

Anyone know what the voltage is on the RCA jacks for the subwoofer output?
I saw someone online say that the RCA output is .4 volts which sounds low. I assumed it would be 2 volts at the least. Unless the person online mean 4v and not 0.4v

It's definitely not worse but Pete is running his stock speakers so not a good test of the audio quality.

Hey would you happen to know why I can not hear my phone notifications when I have it hooked up to bluetooth? And do you feel just tethering it to my phone would allow the head unit to run faster compared to hooking it up to bluetooth 2.

You lost me when you chose not to pronounce the ts in button. When and why did that become a thing?
This infuriates me too, being British I assumed that this was a US thing, is it a relatively new phenomena?
I think it must be a local accent that I never noticed lol. In southern New Jersey we are known for pronouncing water as "wooder" but that's the only one I noticed before lol
I notice it more amongst the lazy millennial crowd, but many 30+ TH-camrs have adopted this terrible habit as well.
To me it's one of the worst examples of the dumbing down of America.
I just bought the Atoto S8 but I am having problems with the volume, which even in Volume 1 is exaggeratedly high that it is even impossible to talk.
I have a Hyundai Santa Fe which comes with a factory amplifier. Could my problem be here? Any suggestions that you can give to the technician who installed the multimedia center for me?
I could definitely see a factory amplifier messing things up. I remember when I had my 2002 Maxima, things got more complicated if you had the upgraded sound system with the Bose amplifier. People would delete them I believe.

This was my first android head unit I. Liked it alot. There was a couple things that I didn't like about it. Like trying to type while driving to search something up on youtube or Netflix and the brightness. It works well other than that! I ended up rooting it and doing alot to it. I wanted extra features for my needs and ended up making my own windows10/android head uniit using raspberry pi 4. Running dual screens lol. I might give my atoto s8 away to a family member or friend 🤙
