There's something about this theme that just feels dangerous. Add in the roars from Groudon that happen every so often, and you really get the feeling that you're heading into immense danger.
Forgot about this song when I last replayed this game. All of the dungeon songs, up to this point, have been pretty lighthearted, or at most have an adventurous feel to them. Then this one hits you out of nowhere? Oh, man. For the first time in the game, I felt that I was in real danger. Something really, really bad awaits at the end of this cave, and I'm heading straight for it. It also helps that this dungeon gets hyped up by conversations between characters other than the ones we play as, so our exploration team has no idea what they're getting into. A good example of how dramatic irony can be used to create suspense, I suppose.
And yet, some of the instruments still manage to create an air of mystery. Perhaps that's representing what the rescue team is experiencing, and the oppressive part of the song is meant for us, the player. Brilliant.
The whole conversation between chatot and the guild members really drove it home. The moment he said "it would be like throwing your life away" while cutting to you facing groudon really made me think, im so screwed........but i cant give up!
This dungeon I keep a sacred memory of it I said to myself this is the moment when I will suffer because of *Groudon.* In any case the musics in Pokemon Mystery Dongeon they are just amazing.
Perfect theme for that moment of the game. When you enter Steam Cave, you can feel that something isn't right. A danger is approaching... And they absolutely nailed it with this track.
One time when I was younger, I actually fell asleep while I was doing this dungeon during a car ride with my headphones on, and I slept amazing. Easily one of the best songs in this game
I love this soundtrack. There was a little bit of magic that I felt as a kid when playing through intensely atmospheric dungeons like this one. I’ve been gripping onto that bit of magic ever since my childhood. Now it’s my goal to bring it into the mainstream spotlight.
Oh you have no idea how much I wish for these tracks to get some more recognition. Guess I gotta wait a few years when the remakes drop out. Everyone in this community is gonna lose their absolute shit.
Skull23 are you hopeful for a remake? I know they recently made one, but they’ve never made a big effort to market pmd and other spinoff games, so I’m worried that it’s not a trend they’ll follow up on. And I’m doubly worried that the remake won’t do it justice
@@DanielRodriguez-se8hf Exactly. Once a Switch remake drops and people experience this they will be BLOWN AWAY, I assume if they can perfectly remake PMD1 (other then the DX Gummy controversy) that they'll blow this game out of the water. I honestly think they might be readying up this remade sometime soon
I just love the Groundon cutscene I played and replayed Red Rescue team a lot, Groudon's dungeon and fight was really marked on my memory, so many rescue teams failed to take him on, to rescue Alakazan, then you somehow pull it off. I only played Explorers a few years later, then outta nowhere Groundon is mentioned as this unbeatable threat, not only remembering that fight, but bringing it back here, the protagonists will face Groundon as their first real challenge without even knowing the danger they're in. This game man, is incredible
As a music theory nerd, there's so much I can say about this song(And really, the entire soundtrack as a whole), but it's 2 AM and my brain is too tired (and in all honesty, I don't know if anyone would read a long ass analysis anyway) Edit: 2 months later and I've been seeing replies every now and again. I'm flattered! Maybe I'll actually write up a little something-who knows? I didn't intend anyone to reply to this.
I would love to hear your thoughts as well. I was a music student and now a musician and teacher, and I love listening to these soundtracks because they are fond memories for me. Let us know how we can hear your analysis!
“…uh huh. Uh, what area?” “Uh, downstate Grass Continent?” “Really? Well I’m from Capim Town, and I’ve never heard anyone use the phrase ‘Steam Cave.’” “Oh, not in Capim Town, no, it’s a Shaymin Village expression.” “I see.”
Considering how much of a threat Groudon was in the first game, even taking down fucking Team ACT, y'know, the strongest rescue team in that game aside from you and your partner...it's definitely unsettling to think what lurks at the end of this cave is the very same beast...with the only, most glaring difference being...that you're far less experienced at this point of the game. This theme really conveys danger, and it's the first time you're in real danger too...
After a massive trek, this is it. The final challenge before reaching Fogbound Lake at last. The expedition is finally coming to a close, and at last, you and your partner are going to be the first to truly find the secret of the lake… Steam Cave is one of my favourite dungeons simply because of where it is in the story, how big of a hurdle it is, and how long I spent stuck in it because of THAT BLOODY GROUDON. Still my favourite legendary through.
This was the dungeon that made me decide Rollout is a HORRIBLE move in PMD. It was all fun and games during all the expedition dungeons (I'm a Phanpy), then got here. Rollout missed more times than I thought. So, I'll change it into Rock Slide.
*I love this track 'cause it's all eerie and atmospheric, as some of you've already mentioned and also the bassline is basically the same as the song "Relax" by Frankie Goes To Hollywood but slowed down. Anyone else think of that? ☺*
Eevee as allie for fun.. then she down to 50%hp.. Still to see her one shot with a tackle will always be funny *One punch Eevee* I can remember she does 300damage (with the seed boost too) to Dialga at the end.

The story telling and soundtrack for this game was elite. I’m on my knees begging Nintendo for explorers DX

I love the little choir that goes subtle, not taking over the composition. This is too epic.
There's no choir though. The choir instrument in this game is also used in chrono trigger so you can compare the two. Unless I'm mistaken.
This level is literally a sauna inside of a mountain that's beneath a lake with a Time Gear inside of it. Perfection.
