I love how he goes into the hanger and instantly starts building these great looking designs, I go into the hanger and 30mins later I have a subpar looking plane that half the time won't even fly, let alone make it to space.
It's all about the center of gravity balance. It's actually a lot harder without nuclear engine, since you basically have to accelerates inside the upper atmosphere and everything begins to overheat, then shoots up to space.
Planes aren't that tough - couple things to remember about basic aerodymanics and IRL flight... you'll find building a KSP airplane is pretty easy. First time I ever played KSP on my buddies computer - I set out to build a plane. My buddy got all snooty "dude... you'll" never make it fly, planes are hard in this game" Threw some parts togeather, zip zap zoop, noticed icon that had CG symbol on it... perfect, lift, need lift... other button ah... got it. Adjusted wings and empanage until those were where I wanted them. Had to ask about how to rotate, and precisely set/move parts... I created a plane that had a vague resemblance to the F86 sabre. It "launch" chuckled a little at the antics of the little green goober "piloting" my machine. Throttled her up, and started a takeoff roll, waited for the shock on the nose gear to get light - applyed a little backstick, and it rotated and flew just fine, takeoff was achieved at 80 m/s. Buddy was like "uhhh... how?! Y u no have SAS on?! " "SAS? Wuzzat?" Says I Yeah, SAS stability control... how are you flying without it?" Says I "Well, by applying a small amount of dihedral angle to this planes wings - and balancing the distance between the tailplane and wings, then setting that in relation to the CG of the aircraft - I've created a plane that is a tiny bit heavy in the nose in relation to its center of lift - meaning it's inherently stable, and will stall predictably and in a nose down attitude, and when flown hands off, it tries to return to level flight. Don't you know how things fly? You took physics in highschool like I did... right?" Blank stare... drools a bit.
He was basing his design on a previously made one, that he knew already flew. Assuming that most of the parts were the same, they would likely handle similarly.
I wish I could build a good looking ssto like that BUT NO I CAN ONLY BULD A SSTO THAT CAN GET TO ORBIT AND BACK... THE ONLY TIME I GOT A SPACE PLANE TO THE MUN I STRAPED IT TO A ROCKET TO GET IT INTO ORBIT... AND THEN I FLEW IT TO THE MUN LANDED ON THE MUN AND THEN WENT HOME...

KRAKEN SOLUTION HERE!! Matt, there is a simple solution to the Kraken death shake problem. There is no need for strut spamming, or turning off auto-strut or SAS, warping, etc Notice, the problem only happens with complex ships or when ships are combined/docked. Two docked ships effectively create one complex ship. What they all have in common are multiple possible control points. The problem appears to be the result of confusion/competition between those control parts (probe cores, docking ports, etc.) as to whom is in control of the ship. SOLUTION: Simply right click on any part with the option "Control from here", and assign control to that part. It doesn't matter which one you choose, and the Kraken goes away. It's just that simple. I've always done the same, if I have to clip parts I eyeball how much space I've overlapped up as a rough % and then just take away that much fuel. Feels like a good compromise.

My entire set-up can transfer crew from LKO to Eve Orbit and back with permanent refuelable rockets, and gets from Kerbin to LKO and back with a small SSTO. At the moment, the only way I can get crew back from Eve surface is by sending single-use multi-stage rockets. What I'm after is a refuelable Eve SSTO.
I use mods - fuel tank switch, KIS, KAS, and a few others - so I can't use a lot of downloadable craft files. But I wouldn't mind some inspiration and just to know if it's possible.
Funnily enough this is my exact "style" too. Good looking plane, Matt.
That's a beautiful spacecraft if I've ever seen one.
I cannot get over "hello everyone to this video” it’s so jarring
This is what the shuttle wanted to be. I commend you!
MATT!
I don't care that this is a KSP video rather than planet coaster, but yesterday (15th May) was the first anniversary for the start of velocity lake.
Just thought you should know. Anyway time to watch the video
Great to have the visual mods back!
That ssto stunningly beautiful
"The Rapiers start to choke on their aspirations"
There I fixed it for you
I'm not even 3 minutes in & this SSTO is Swag AF, my dude.
19:26 holy shit I'm so used to my planes running off the end of the runway that was insane that it didn't flip or anything lmao
This week on Lowne Landers: Risky Whiskey: COPPA the mornin' to ya.
Amazing stuff as always. Keep up the good work. Don't catch that thing!
Fun Fact: The Space Shuttle doesn't in fact have a rudder. It's a speed brake that deploys to slow a shuttle down. It is though, portrayed in the game as a rudder.
1- I quite KSP years ago and started again a few weeks ago. I’m gonna need a new computer. Recommendations keeping in mind KSP2.
2 - Bourbons: Bookers, Makers 46, and Baisil Hayden’s are my top 3.
Corey Rose How much money do you have to put into your computer ? That's the missing thing, with the type of monitor you are using :)
But the sweet 1080@144 or 1440p60Hz at the moment is :
-R5 3600
-B450 motherboard
-2*8Gb of ddr4 3000MhzC15
-Rx 5600xt
- 550W bronze psu
-a case you like
- At least 480Gb of storage, including an ssd
Will maybe depend a bit on your local market price tho
Amazing plane ya got there....
Matt your a god
I do love the way it looks (it's alot better than any ssto I could make 😂😂)
Matt: this ssto is so good looking.
Me: hold my sprite. swept wing
Don't feel bad about clipping mk2 fusalages, they hold the same amount of fuel as the mk1 parts do, and the mk1 to mk2 adapters hold even less.
