    Two things that are happening are reminders of working to get a haul in after the customer rebuilt it.
    #1 Hard to turn over; Did he put new rings on old pistons? If so one can bet he did not clean the ring land bottoms. Carbon behind the new and therefore thicker rings will cause a lot of friction. Also, some rings were probably broken when forced over carbon in the bottom of the ring lands.
    #2 Was the camshaft installed incorrectly? Put the engine pointer on TDC, check using a piece of wire to make sure the #1 piston is at the top, and see where the valves are at. I believe the service manual gives a value for the degrees in relation to TDC that the valve actions are supposed to start. A Walmart plastic circular protractor stuck to the front pully with 0 degrees coinciding with the flywheel pointer and a TDC mark for the protractor to register to. Turn the engine, and make a mark on the protractor where each valve starts to move. Pull the protractor off and your marks will give you proof of cam timing.
    Too many Barly Pops will cause many mistakes when building engines. I had a degree wheel I used back in our racing days to verify things happen when they are supposed to happen. It is amazing how timing marks that are on the vibration dampener can migrate a few degrees from TDC.
    My recommendation is to take that sucker apart and put it back together the way the Oliver God of Engines wanted it to be. Chasing some unknown mistake usually can take longer than starting with a clean slate when you put it together correctly.

    I had a very tough time getting my 1550 started and running after a rebuild. Traced the problem to the holley distributer, much like you mentioned the plates where wore out and it could not be kept stable enough to provide reliable ignition. My solution (because im not spending $450 on a new distributer) was installing a pentronix electronic ignition system......Works excellent and was very easy to install!

    I was working on a piece of equipment once and was many many hours into getting it started. It had not even kind of cooperated at all. Just crank and crank and I was hot sweaty and let’s just say we were completely out of farm animals to use the sounds. So I pull the cap off to realize I had forgotten to put the rotor back in. Yeah once I put it in it started right up. Yep there were many more animals

    Saw 'That Oliver guy' using one of those handy-dandy valve adjustment tools in a couple of his videos. Had to have one! Found on the E-Bay. So far have only used it on one tractor and only moved one adjustment, maybe .002". I did just drag home another pumpkin that would make a great "Will it Run"!! It will get used on that at some point. Maybe I need a gp-pro and a channel?

    I like the valve adjustment tool. Very nifty and I'm going to see how many different sizes are available. I'm not sure why it didn't fire. It had all of the necessary requirements, it should have ran. I'm not sure if it is the battery or the starter, but it sure doesn't seem to spin over very well.

    I think you need a new distributor assembly, it seems really out of time according to the wires number one should be on the other side of the distributor, the distributor caused a nightmare on the 2-70 we had on our farm, till we finally got a new one. The slow cranking could be numerous things, my guess is wrong size bearings or improper clearance of them, as you said it should turn over easier than that. Great video

  • @ThatOliverGuyChris
    @ThatOliverGuyChris 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Those ran a 6 volt ignition and I saw a 12 volt coil. There should be 2 wires going to the coil, a resistance wire coming from the key giving 6 volts and a wire coming from the starter giving 12 volts only while cranking. I saw only 1 wire at the coil, so if that is the factory key wire you're only getting 6 volts at best to a 12 coil. That spark is going to be so weak it isn't going to start anything. Of course that's assuming factory wiring. I saw enough stuff going on that anything is possible. Including my pet peeve of 1/2 inch bolts in all 4 corners of the engine mounts.

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yup. On that video at his house I ripped him about those bolts. He lost a lot of stuff over the last 20 years. Wiring is all jacked up. The second wire was hooked to the solenoid which didn’t do much good. In part 2 I discuss that. It runs pretty good but it was a struggle.

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@rosstheoliverman on mine someone had fried the diode wire going to the alternator. It wouldn't shut off because of juice back feeding from the alternator. I ran a new wire and put an indicator light in it to act as my diode. With everything going on with that one, I could see the same thing happening to you.

    I guess your cousin let you the one who knows how to get his tractor running again work on it.
    He didn't look like put the sensor wire right on the thermostat he put it on the generator 😂😂. He didn't study on it to good did he Ross.I ant saying I am perfect neither😂😂 but I would try to study up on it or ask someone the starter didn't seem to good on it to are like you said it was hard to even try to move the engine by hand my to 20 is like that to I had to use a wrench on mine.I was wanting to say I ant herd of 50w beer 😂😂 I need of 10w40 😂😂 maybe the 50w would work on lubricating things 😂😂 I know it would make anyone look sideways at something😂😂 .And the show on this one was a cliffhanger it's like Dallas or a soap arpra it left you hanging on will it run 😂😂😂
