Yo Tom, so I tried to ask already and dont want to miss the chance, I ordered 1 top yesterday, any chance I can order a second top signed to add to order please
@@TomCardy sorry to add confusion my order is under Peter Smith. Peter Moore was my birth name 😁. What a great bike garage you have, my bike room is a Amazon version haha.
Hey Tom Cardy! 17 years of carpentry makes me well drool over your screw drawer! Hang bikes on the side wall left of garage door alternating front wheel up rear wheel up to save space! Wheel rack up high on opposite wall with two parallel bars below the wheels holding them! Those rails can also hold bins or boxes! A few main bikes can occupy the floor below! Ride ride ride!
Yo! Awesome ideas dude! The screw draw is one of my favourite bits the the whole project haha! I forgot to reply to your comment on my previous video but your one of the guys who comments the most and for the longest so thanks for the support over the years! 🤟🤟
@@TomCardy bought some "cheap" 12V led strips (NB is they're cuttable) and a pack of connectors. Work a charm and come with 3M adhesive backing. e.g. ran a strip down a 10mm alu angle about 2m long so that I have a long adjustable "light" over my work surface.
Get a roller door then you can store the bikes upright either side of the garage with a walkway down the middle. Also roller doors offer added security to the garage. Best investment I made fitting one on my garage. All the best on your road to recovery!
Use an old large wheel, fabricate a box for it to connect to and screw the box onto the ceiling. Get a load of butchers hooks and have a rotating bike rack. (Think upside down spinning clothes line). That way you spin the bikes round to the one you want to use today.
Change the door Tom, go for a roller garage door. It will keep the garage warmer and dryer, be more secure and also gives you a lot more room to work with. Given the bikes you have to store this would be helpful. Recently been working on my garage and changing the door combined with Borgen Bike Wall pedal Mounts has made such a difference. I shopped around and they’re not as expensive as you think if you do your homework. Happy to recommend if you like. Also LED work lighting under the cupboard above the work station makes a big difference. I got mine from IKEA.
To maximise your bike storage you would ideally need to change your garage door from an up and over to a roller or the more old fashioned hinged double door arrangement that would allow even more usable space on the walls to wall mount your bikes. I am planing to replace my up and over doors with the more traditional double doors as I often hit my head on the bloody thing and and the extra room would mean that I can bring storage forward to the doors. They are possibly less secure that a roller door.
Didn't see a truing stand in there - no workshop is complete without a TS2.2! Plus the adaptors for thru axles, some spoke wrenches & a dishing guage. Wall mounted repair stand would also be nice. Rubber mats for the floor. As you mentioned, foam cut-outs for the tool drawers but I heard its extremely time consuming making them (mine just have a thin layer of 'grippy' foam at the bottom to help stop things from sliding about). I'd consider painting the walls white to reflect the light or you may need to add some portable lamps for detail work, which will take up valuable space & may cause shadows in the workspace . Also very important - some craft beers in the fridge!
Coming along nicely there buddy. It’s nice to have a tidy workshop. I’ve spent the last 7 years trying to manage a single car garage with a car in it and a functioning workshop space. It’s tough. I like the look of the grey on the walls, but I prefer white as it brightens the space up a lot. I used washed down Leyland trade emulsion for that. Obviously if you can insulate the walls it’s ideal, but it’s hassle and money. Might be worth looking into a drywall electrical back box to house your bench mounted electrical socket and using a conventional socket. Another thing which I think you could benefit from is some under cabinet led strip lights. You can buy them on a roll with a self adhesive backer and a 12v transformer. Handy when you’re working at the bench. Maybe a small home made bench next to the fancy tool box setup to fit a vice, as I don’t see one and no workshop is complete without one. I made a sturdy bench using 100x50 timber from TP and 12mm MDF for the top and shelf. Fix to the wall with angle brackets. I’ve finally got around to ordering a 1.5mm aluminium skin for it so I can tack bits together on it with my tig welder if needed. A small pillar drill on it too would be dreams. Garage floor paint. I’ve just redone mine using Leyland frigate grey from screw fix. Two coats has come up well. I went with a light grey as it’s easier to find things if the floor is a light colour, should you drop a nut or bolt etc. A rubber Matt by the bench is good to save your feet the pain of concrete also. Otherwise it’s just about maximising your floor space and hanging up everything possible. Hang your bikes by the front or back wheel, hang your spare wheels up on hooks and fit shelves wherever possible. Another cheap way to insulate your garage door is using laminate floor underlay. I had a load of aluminium backed stuff spare after doing our lounge which I used to do my garage door. It’s not suddenly perfect, but it helps keep the cold down during winter.
I think we all love a good screw box…….I just ordered the orange shirt. Come to the states and organize my stuff…lol glad you are moving around much better you don’t look in pain anymore.
One solution I have been using for bike storage is the feedback sports VELO HINGE. They actually swing in and out so your bikes aren’t sticking off the wall 30+” as well, which with a narrow pathway is helpful. Furthermore, I use the feedback sports VELO POST to hang rims, or any other bits and bobs. They are super multifunctional, sturdy, and work great! Anyway, as a fellow perfectionist, I look forward to see what you come up with in the future and best of luck in your recovery! Cheers
It looks sick but also quite claustrophobic. You need some natural daylight in there. Sunpipes on the roof will deliver plenty of natural light and make the space feel more open
"If I was given six hours to chop down a tree, I'd spend the first four sharpening the axe." Abraham Lincoln I think a good overall plan of what goes where, on paper. Definitely lay everything out where you want it before thinking about making those high density foam cut outs to keep your tools in place. Spanners stencilled and hung up on the wall are a MUST for any dream garage, even if only for the aesthetic. A whiteboard somewhere for ideas, some cool framed pictures on the walls, extra security, a sound system. So many possibilities.
I like those screw in wheel hooks. Hang the bike vertically off one hook on the wall. If your ceiling is high enough, you can hang alternate bikes high and low so the handlebars bypass and you can squeeze more bikes into a section of wall. Looks like a brick wall so maybe 2x4 cleats one for the high hooks and one fir the low hooks.
Tom - for me, wall mounted racks for the bikes at the one end, but also I would have to make it much lighter in there, especially if there is no natural light!
Great to see that you’re doing good. A vice on the workbench is a must have. I’d mov the air hose roll up to the side of the workbench in front of the shelf, reaching through the shelf, if you have more stuff in, does not work so well. What about rails on the ceiling to hang and move the bikes might be good. Then you still have room to walk around.
Looking sweet. Definitely need some more lighting. I highly recommend Steady Racks for the bikes. Wall mounted and can be swung out of the way for more space.
Hi Tom, good to see you making the most out of your time off the bike. Having had two ACLs repaired and a broken back in my time I know how frustrating it can be. Be patient, heal well and you'll be riding again soon. Also, pool table... Edit: I overestimated the available space, dart board ;-)
Hey Tom. You could use one of your many spare wheels to make a hanging rotating shoe rack. Cheeky little wall mount for it would keep floor more open, easier to clean and just awesome. Great set up dude, stay cool and healing vibes man. 🤘🏻Scott.
Vertically mounted bikes on the big wall and then the two bikes you ride the most on the other wall. That way your go to bike is always easy to get to and the others like the dh rig might be able to sit aside out of the way
you should use a fork mounted bike rack for cars but attach it to your wall instead, would save quite a lot of space too because of removing the front wheel, you should get a sofa too to chill on lmao
I would use swinging hangers for the bikes along the wall opposite the work bench. hang the bikes from the back wheel or front wheel and alternate so the bars don't interfere. If they swing, you can put the hooks closer together and move the other bikes out of the way easily without taking more than one down at a time.
dope setup mate done a really top job there. i'm looking to build a man kitchen 😆only thing missing is RGB lighting but that's just my thing, i like things to glow
to maximize space you could put the bikes with wheels on the ceiling with opposit facing handlebars and some pulleys to lift bikes up and down. or on both sides of the garage with vertical mounts
I tucked my ears into my cap earlier and my wife thought I was a total goon but you just pull it off so well! Haha love your vids and the garage looks great!
I'd move your tyre shelves down the other end near your helmet rack and use the space to vertically hang all the bikes. Top and tail them to get best use of space
Looking so smart. I think your garage door might bang into your bikes if you hang them up the end by the doors. Probably going to have to change them for normal opening doors or roller shutter. Then you can hang the bikes on the wall, looks like it would be tight even though.
Got the same tail tidy shelf not long ago, holds most of my clothing, both helmets and it makes everything look so nice and organized. I would probably have all the bikes hung up on some front wheel hooks then they would probably be easier to access.
If I were you I would store the bikes in a shelf type of thing with sliders to hold each bike. When you need to use one all you do is slide a bike out of it's position and take it down.
Fix that socket by the fuse board back to the wall please The socket buy your bench use a plaster board back box and fit a usb socket to use can charge your phone while working/ watching at the same time If you can’t fix the plaster board box because of timber in the way cut the lugs off and glue it in place with something like CT1 I would of used larger down lights you can get ones that are over 6 inches and the light out put is really good for working in and if you want real mental ones Gap Lighting do ones that do everything any colour/white/dim/flash/all controls from the phone as well
Hey Tom, garage is looking good! For the sockets why can't you fit standard dry lining back boxes in the holes? For bike storage I copied Blake and fitted the swing away bike carriers, brilliant things. All the best on the recovery.
Not trying to be disrespectful at all but it really stands out when Sam throws up hang loose. Too much baggage with those horns no matter what you believe God bless you all
