    Glad to see that your boat didn't sustain any major damage, would have been a big relief to see her the next morning

    Seeing the wrecked boats on the beach really makes you think that a marina berth during a cyclone is a really good investment , especially one that is so well organised and helpful. Glad your yacht came through with flying colours. Thanks for the video. .

      Thank you Stephen!
      The staff here have been absolutely amazing, they even put on a BBQ lunch this week free for all tenants to have a debrief and discuss the cyclone ans what people found helpful/not helpful, so everyone and them can learn from each other. Really amazing staff here.
      We are very grateful to have e come out without major damage and it breaks our hearts to see boats on the beach and up on the rocks.

    Glad to see you came through okay. Good place to dock with all of their Cyclone prep and the watches during it. You were fortunate.

      Thank you!
      Very. And very lucky to have a great marina with staff and tenants all caring for each other. Unfortunately she did leave a path of destruction and power outage in suburbs for days and magnetic Island was out for about 3 days without power

      Thank you! So good to come out the other side. Was awesome to see everyone helping everyone take down sails and tie lines etc. Wednesday night everyone sorry sat on the jetty outside their boats with beers and it was like a beautiful social hour 🥰

    Loved your crab stowaway, he knew a cyclone was coming and wanted to go with you guys!

      @sailingwiththejamess  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Thanks! He was acute crab but definitely would not have appreciated the aircon or hotel 😆 We released him on the dock next to the boat so he was able to go back to his home🦀

    When you said spring lines
    I was expecting to see the actual springs or elastomer equivalents that fit over the lines and allow the boat to move up and down without transmitting the shock to the cleats on pontoon or your deck/ gunnel rail.
    Glad you came through it with minimal problems .. 🧙‍♂️
    Alarmingly the international Met. guys are discussing whether to introduce a category 6 Cyclone/hurricane 🌀 catorgary given the climatic driven increases in storms. Its also been a record year for lightening in both hemispheres and at sea...

      Thank you! We are really happy with how well she did through the cyclone!

    We were evacuated from Cairns Marina during cyclone Yasi (cat5), we went and tied up in the mangroves, came back the next day and was all G, it came ashore at port Hincinbrook, 100ks south, Cairns was VERY lucky, Port Hincinbrook not so much. They got walloped, HARD.

      We heard about Cardwell and the marina during Yasi 😱

      Thank you, I was still stressing a little, I think everyone was in the marina to an extent, and there was a wave of relief the next morning seeing Emma's bows floating and the marina in tact. We did really well at getting her prepped and Sam's knowledge and experience calms me 🥰

    Some gripping drama, _that_ was! But you prepared so well. Uplifting to hear about good folks running around all night protecting boats. Charlie, at least, wasn't bothered too much by the whole affair. :-)

      Charlie was super excited to watch the shrek marathon - we had snacks and were trying to make it a fun exciting hotel getaway for her 🤗 We don't have a bathtub onboard and she had a few baths in the hotel tub with bubbles 💙⛵️

    Did the boat have a bit of a bingle in a past life?
    Just noticed the welds amidships.

    • @sailingwiththejamess
      @sailingwiththejamess  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great Question!
      The big U shaped welds midships are where the hull is strengthened for the rigging for the mast, chain plates

    Did not know one went down in the Duck Pond, dragged the mooring?

    • @sailingwiththejamess
      @sailingwiththejamess  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      4 that we know of, went down in the duckpond pond, and then one on the rocks on horseshoe bay on Maggie by the boat ramp (dragged anchor and mooring block). And two on the stand along with a pontoon and one that we heard of up on Bushland beach
      😔

    • @SVPearler
      @SVPearler 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @sailingwiththejamess oh jeez. Thought it was only the two on the beach!
      They all monos that went down in Duck pond?
      There were some not so flash boats in there.

    • @sailingwiththejamess
      @sailingwiththejamess  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I believe they were all monos, two were smashed to pieces, two sank and one ended up high on the rocks laying on its side
      When we went over to Magnetic Island someone had mentioned that there were two sailboats and one ended up on the rocks next to the boat ramp and the other one Iis MIA (sank?)

    9:07 i was actually wondering about that, all my experience with boats has been powerboat, and I’m low enough not to be in cyclone area, would a snatch-strap (aka a 4x4 recovery vehicle stretchable cord) work in this situation? Idk? Has anyone tried?

    • @sailingwiththejamess
      @sailingwiththejamess  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      We used the Ratchet straps for the main sail and for the inflatable tender on the bow, because we are sharing a pen we could suspend the boat in the middle which would be ideal ans put the extra straps across to secure the now in. Are you over in WA?

    just like to say, always been a struggle to understand kiwi's ( something to do with chips and chups) and certain american dialects, however you both don't fit that category lol starting my binging, hope you make it to the mid north coast in the future ( Port Macquarie to Gosford) Frank

      Thank you! We've both been in Aus for years now 💙🇦🇺 We are headed north up the coast but in the future we would love to circumnavigate Australia 🇦🇺 ❤️ 😀

    10:40 wouldn’t it be wise to leave bilge pumps power on? Forgive me if you did..

    • @sailingwiththejamess
      @sailingwiththejamess  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great question! We have 8 automatic Bilge pumps and we left all of them on, we turned off fresh water pump in case we burst a pipe, and all non-essentials like the watermaker and we isolated the toilet
      It's a really good question!
