I have stolen the basic design of your 54 and Naval yachts in Turkey are building it with a late 2024 delivery. I extended the waterline to 23.9 meters 78'5" 85' over all with aluminum built to ABS class. I love your boats layout but need more aft deck to haul toys for my 8 grandkids.
Thank you for taking the time to show us the amazing and the truly not so amazing times.
WOW. please send me pictures and video when you receive it. amazing. thanks for watching.
Merry Christmas and a very Happy and safe New Year.
I just love that boat
Just wanted to say I am headed to bvi Friday and the moorings upgraded my wife and I to a leopard 50 4 cabin for free. So excited. Just wish you were gonna be there with us.
Thank you so much. very kind words....even in Portuguese!! Obrigado por assistir!
@@thewanderinghillbilly sou do Brasil e seus vídeos chegaram aqui...rsrsrs
Love that you're enjoying your oasis! And things are going pretty well. 🔑
Yes! Thank you!
G’day mate, we had the same problem with the caulking and platform hydraulics - all replaced in Thailand under warranty. Great video as usual. Be interested in the Volvo results.
Thanks buddy. I’ll let you know!
Now that you own your own boat can you explore the USVI? If so I would enjoy that content also. Keep up the great work!
Eventually! yes. thanks for watching.
Love the Chuck Berry reference with the Ding.
thank you for getting the reference. anyone under 55 is clueless. thanks for watching.
Gosh quite minor issues considering the usage of the boat. Impressed at how well Marine Max and Aquila have stepped up and repaired stuff under warranty. I wonder if they would have been as responsive if you did not have a significant presence on TH-cam?
Thats a very good question. Other Aquila owners would tell you they get the same service...however, they react to me MUCH quicker cause of this dumb channel. And why not? I'm opening up my life to everyone and pushing their product on a DAILY basis...so it makes sense. thanks so much for watching.
Any updates on the wondering Hillbilly situation now in June? Hoping and praying for its recovery from Angola
Hope all is good, brother!!!! Looks absolutely amazing!! I'm excited to hear about everything when you get back to Omaha!!
Thanks for watching!!
Great video cheered up another cold (42F) day in the UK. Have a great holiday.
thanks for watching way out there!!!! have a great holiday.
Alan, thanks tor sharing the adventures. We have certainly used your and other 54 owners experiences to add certain changes and upgrades to our final build. We use the same yacht management people in BVI as you and our current plan is to have the boat in BVI April, May, and June. Nanny Cay is also my base as well. Is it your current plan to be around during that time frame?
Great to hear! I'll be there in April and June! see you there!
Love your channel Alan! Recently discovered and I’m hooked! You are so positive and uplifting! What software are you using for navigation? Is there an iPad version? Thanks for the shows! Now back to my binge watching! 😂😂
Hopefully your swim grid hydraulics are being replaced with stainless? You're correct, shouldn't rust that quickly.. we ran the gen for 24/9 on our charter, (Leopard), no issues, wonder if they do something different with theirs?
Stainless will replace them. thanks for watching.
I’m taking my family out of the cold weather in Canada and heading down to the BVI’s on our first charter February 24 to March 10 . Are you going to be around those dates ? Would love to run into the hillbilly!
Love watching the fun you are having Alan! Hope to run into you some day in the BVI! Love your Ray-Bans. Are they standard Wayfarer's or the newer Wayfarer's? If it's even possible, they make you look like you are having more fun!
I have no clue! Just love wearing them! Thanks for watching
Could you tell us what kind of captain certifications you have? Since this is not a sailboat I’m interested what license you need to operate. Love your videos. Keep them coming
I have no license. I took 3 courses from US Boating. BASIC POWERBOATING, INSHORE CRUISING and NIGHTTIME NAVIGATION. That, along with several years of chartering experience...and that was all I needed. thanks for watching!
We're the original hydraulic fittings stainless steel?
Hopefully the replacements will be.
good question. I'll let you know when they are replaced. thanks for watching.
Is the Hillbilly going to be cruising the BVI’s end of February beginning of March (2024) ??
Sorry about your lost key. I have done similar items that I regret afterwads. "Live and learn" You should start selling Wandering Hillbilly Dinghy floaty key chains. Then you will never forget to put a floaty on your keys again.
GREAT IDEA!!!! thanks! and thanks for watching!
You know Alan, that really is a good idea. Probably wouldn't cost much. I don't know it the design is patented??@@thewanderinghillbilly
Hillbilly! Big fan! Have you had any shark encounters you can share?
Only in the Bahamas. They are everywhere in the Bahamas. None in the BVI. thanks for watching.
The small dumb things most boaters do, keys without floats, drain plugs in dinghies etc. etc, I know I did. Lessons learned, till I eventually forget and need to re-learn that lesson. I know this video is months behind, so likely have already dealt with it. But if not, for the cords we used 3M command hooks. Assorted shapes and sizes. For horizontal use, we used zip ties to semi permanently keeping the cord on the hook, though they probably would have stayed without it.
thanks for the tips! and thanks for watching.
so good content Alen, could i know you have interested in testing our powerwin BT100 12.8v 100ah lifepo4 battery
Thank you Sir, love all your vids! I cannot wait to be back in the Vi's. All I do here in the states is dream about going back there, so thanks for the short tour.
You'll get back soon!!!! thanks for watching.
As usual, watching and drooling....also (the blue hulled Buddy Davis in the background) I met him and took videos of him coming in to port a couple of days. Such a nice guy! Was surprised to find out he spends some of his time in Canada of all places. I'm curious what grade stainless fittings they use for your hydraulics. Our loading arms on our marine loading docks has hydraulics for all of the cylinders. We use Swagelok fittings and they have been in the element for many years here in the PNW and still look like new, just an idea for you there. Another great video Alan, cheers!🍻
thnaks so much for watching!
I have lived vicariously with your adventures since your purchase of the Aquila 54. Thank you for the fun I get from watching your videos. A new Aquila has been on my radar for a few years. If you don't mind me asking, did you use a yacht broker with you purchase from Marine Max, or did you work directly with Marine Max? Can you share your experiences? Maybe a topic for a future video for you?
We have 4 keys - 1 kept on big boat 1 kept in the bag we always carry around (handheld radio money etc) and one zip tied in a hiding place under the console on the dink as well as the normal one we keep that has a float on it. I had nightmares of losing the key. As far as the power cable - i replaced a couple 110 outlets in the boat with those that have USB’s in them- its worked great- not sure what kinda power your outlets are (us/euro) but I sure amazon would have something like I used -
I have USB'S on all power outlets. it's so wonderful! I will have a dozen keys on board now! lol. thanks for watching.
I see that you rarely have the ac on. Is it a cost savings or wear and tear on the generator you’re trying to avoid?
dude, I have the ac on 24/7. even when I open all the doors and windows...it's still pumping...cause i LOVE AIR CONDITIONING. hah. thanks for watching.
when i visit the boat shows … there is nearly always one or two vendors (insurance companies the usual suspects) with promo giveaways … key floats being popular… i always grab a couple ! .. you can never have enough key floats! … yeah yaeah… easy to be wise after the event!
right? dumb. thanks for watching!
Oh, the joys of boat ownership.... Chewing gum and baling twine are your friends.
thanks for watching.
Alan, I've heard you mention your guest. Are these actual guest or do you charter your yacht?
these are friends and family only. I don't charter....yet. thanks for watching.
Alan I noticed the humps in the cushions tn your cockpit, there are 3 bulges above the support posts is that normal🤔
Yeah. That’s cause I stepped on it and it collapsed. I have to order a new one. Nuts. Thanks for watching
Those damn 👠@@thewanderinghillbilly 🤣
Hi Alan, quick question, do you pay for an annual berth at Nanny Cay or do you just pay as and when you use it? If you ever get the time it would be get to do a video of the costs of keeping your boat in the BVI i.e. insurance, servicing and maintenanceberthing costs, boat manager cost and price of fuel locally. Anyway, really enjoying the vids that you put out, thanks.
about to do that very video....you'll see it soon! you pay as you go with Nanny Cay. Can't pay for your own annual slip. doesn't work that way in the BVI. thanks for watching.
