    I enjoyed you demonstrating the various machines.
    I recommend you bag the machines even when just practicing, as breaking equipment down, reducing cross contamination, is a skill that requires practice, so might as well practice it as well.
    Additionally, your depth was inconsistent in general, which translated to weaker lines when they would have been more powerful at proper depth, although, I still extracted a LOT of great information from your demonstration.
    From the demo, the Hawink MX1 seemed to offer the most consistent resonance, which translates into needle chatter.
    I would recommend practicing stretching the skin, even if it is fake skin. The primary reason people have difficulty tattooing is from a lack of stretching,... even those with a lot of skill and experience, fatigue and get lazy with their stretching techniques. A good stretch is created from left thumb and palm, left index and middle finger, and third point from tattoo hand outside palm. This creates a triangle of points that prevent the skin from bouncing. A 2 point stretch will actually make the skin taunt, preventing the punctures from vacuuming the ink into the skin when the needle leaves.
    Voltage generally translates to higher rpm speeds only. Higher speeds actually can work against you by increasing needle variations causing jagged lines even when hand motions are smooth. If you notice the needles spitting ink, its due to too high of a machine speed and your needles are jumping around.
    You can also get smoother lines from moving your arm, not your hand. so lock the wrist and make the move come from elbow and shoulder.
    Just a few pointers for ya, take em or leave em.
    Though I made some critiques, I think the demo was very effective and did offer the machine info I was searching for, so thank you.

      @@FloatyTattoo I don't have a channel, i post some stuff on instagram: @naterogersart
      But its been a while. Im just getting back into tattooing, and learning as much as i can about various pen style machines. the industry changes so quickly!
      I see you do have a lot of control in your hand control, so I expect learning to tattoo wont be a problem. You'll pick it up with some practice. Took me about 2 years to really feel what was going on with various skin types and machines.
      Your off to a great start!
      Once machines are learned and you can get ink in, then its all about the art, producing amazing artwork.
      Even if the tattoo isn't all that perfect, if the artwork is incredible, the tattoo can always be cleaned up a bit to result in an incredible tattoo.
      If the artwork isn't that great, then even if the tattoo is executed flawlessly, the tattoo will only look OK, because the visual impact is limited by the artistic interpretation.

      @@FloatyTattoo also just some constructive criticism. At some point you will need to get into a shop with professionals. it will help you grow and you will learn things that wouldn't be possible by teaching yourself.
      That fake skin is nothing like real skin. Maybe try some pig skin, there is more to tattooing than the machine and how you pull a line. Your other hand is also doing things.
      But keep up the practice you can get to your goals. but at some point you will have to learn from some professionals.
      And practice, practice, practice.

    How long does the MAST battery life last on one charge?? I’ve Skaggs been faithful to the OG guns and now I’m looking at the MUMMY R1 … is rotary really better than the OG in most cases or are there better og style guns out there?

    • @FloatyTattoo
      @FloatyTattoo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Mast battery life is great, 8-10 hours no problem on a full charge. Rotary is better in many cases, biggest advantages that I see are in ergonomics and convenience, much less vibration (less risk for carpal tunnel and tendinitis) and better weight distribution. The convenience of using cartridges instead of Needle on Bar is great. Lining is where it gets a little tricky to be able to line as fast as you can with a coil because of time the needle spends in the skin on each stroke, or needle dwell time. Check out my video on the Neuma 4 to learn more if you want to see a rotary machine that let's you line as fast as with coil machines while also giving better healing times from my observations.

    What kind of power supply would you recommend and also cartridges?

    • @FloatyTattoo
      @FloatyTattoo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My top recommendation right now for getting started is the InkClaw C-charged battery (inkclaw.com use code FloatyLady for 15% off), which you can also find rebranded on Amazon as the Dragonhawk B1, although it is not the updated version. For a wired power supply the BRONC on amazon is decent to get started with. For cartridges I like Rhein for budget friendly or Black Claw for top of the line.

      Hi Angel, welcome! So I have a few suggestions for newer machines than the ones which are in this video, if you are looking to buy the best machine for the least money I've tried, it is the Mast Saber, which is very similar to the Archer from this video but I like the grip and buttons on it better, it feels nicer in my hand. If you are willing to spend a bit more and invest in a machine which will last you a bit longer I would get the CNC-X-WE (or WE-Plus when they comeback in stock) if you are into Black and Grey Realism work, or if you do more traditional work with bold lines and color I recommend the Rhein 'Red Diamond' or 'Lipstick' Tattoo Pen, it has a very hard hitting motor that can drive larger needle groupings no problem. I will be doing a comparison video on these machines sometime soon. I have reveiws on all of these machines which you can find in my Reviews playlist.

      Too much ink in the cartridge, you can help to avoid this by tapping the tip out lightly over a paper towel before bringing it to the skin. Just dip the tip of the needle, don't go too deep in the ink cap. Over time you will get a better feel for how much ink to take in when dipping.

      Using Vaseline on the skin before every line will help, also being mindful of how much ink is in the cartridge. Rinse your needle often. If you’re using a traditional setup, making sure the needle bar rides the back of the tip and having the correct grommet and band tension will prevent this as well. Also shitty watery ink will fall out of the tip before you hit the skin, always use quality trusted products.

    the virbration on almost any pen is a fraction of any coil, and more for noise. So for the Q2, both are null points. IMO. And you should not be running your machine on fake skin on a strait table. it's incredibly hard on the machines as most of those are direct drive, and worse for the maxxon. You should at the least have a towel down under it or better yet, mimic actually tattooing and put in on your leg. You're teaching bad habits all around in not wrapping as well.

    • @FloatyTattoo
      @FloatyTattoo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Why do you think it's incredibly hard on the machines to run them on a straight table, what is the difference? What is the reasoning there? Not sure why it would be worse for the maxxon, it's just a motor brand. I don't usually tattoo people who are sitting on my leg so not sure how that is supposed to help. This is a product demonstration and comparison video where the machines are not being used on a person so wrapping isn't really an issue. Seems like you are grasping pretty hard here to make criticisms. What are your real motivations?

      Back in the late 80's I tried to get someone to teach me and I got laughed at. I was told to go to prison. LOL I finally got a lady with 20 years experience to hire me because of my art skills and drawings. I picked up everything I needed to tattoo in a week and boogied. It isn't rocket science. Most of the people today offering apprenticeships are just exploiting people and no better tattooists than many who are self taught.

    As you further your career just come back to this video and your gonna see what you’ve done wrong and laugh rookie mistakes all that it is I sure do laugh at old pictures and videos of my early days of tattooing no1 is ever good or do the right steps in the beginning
    Btw the only thing that truly did bother me about the video was those hideous ginormous gloves girl cmon now lol seriously though I’ll give u one tip wearing smaller gloves gives your hand more fatigue during the session less stress in your hand Since the glove is smaller it compress your hand into a ball more making it easier to grip the machine using less force to keep it balled up like that with the machine in hand

      I appreciate your honesty and constructive criticism. The gloves are because of supply chain issues, I ordered small nitrile gloves and was sent these generic vinyl gloves. There is a story of Ansel Adams meeting Ernest Hemingway that goes something like this
      Ernest Hemingway: "You take the most amazing photographs I've ever seen! What sort of camera do you use?"
      Ansel Adams: "You write the most amazing stories. What sort of typewriter do you use?"
      It's not the machine that makes the Artist. Take a look at what Lil B does with a machine he made from scrapyard parts. th-cam.com/video/nWCQt0LI6mc/w-d-xo.html
      Some people learn best from an apprenticeship, some are better at teaching themselves, and many do best with a bit of both. It's all about what learning style fits you best.
      You may have missed the part of the video where I say that I am just practicing on fake skin with these machines. th-cam.com/video/X5lNK6HQ-Xk/w-d-xo.html

      I think you need to chill a little bit...
      Most of the tattoo artists start practicing at home and then with friends.
      You don't pay for apprenticeship, you get a position in a studio if you have a solid portfolio. If you're lucky and persistent.
      This video is obviously just a small guide for beginners and someone who would like to start in the tattoo's world.
      Yes, she is still has a lot to learn herself, but she just posted a review about the pens, this is not a tatt masterclass.
      A couple of those pens are actually not that bad (cnc q2 and Archer),they're definitely not a £500 Cheyenne pen, but they do a decent job without messing up your skin as other Amazon's crap.
      So this is helpful for people who has no clue and they were thinking to buy the cheapest pen on eBay.
      This is what TH-cam was created for, to help people out and share your knowledge/opinion.
      A lot of tattoo artists are too arrogant to share their experience to help others, but they're the first ones to come after people like her that are trying to help out...
