- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 20 ต.ค. 2024
- Last week we got the news... our #Landrover #defender will have to stay for a week at a garage in Jackson Hole, WY as we are expecting for spare parts to fix it. Serendipity has put Tom and his #landroverdefender Jerry on our route. In our trouble he offered to continue the journey with us while we need to wait. This episode is the story of this adventure. We leave Albatross behind and travel with Tom and Jerry through #Wyoming, #southdakota and #Colorado. Beautiful landscapes, amazing wildlife, competitive card game, delicious dinner, this is an expedition in the expedition, this is Expedition Jerry! Hopefully by the end of it... our car will be fixed!
To be sure you do not miss next episode expedition and the rest of the world tour, subscribe to the channel!
See you next week, until then, take care!

Tom and Jerry seem to be the most generous punch ever - hope you remain friends and meet a lot!
The best pair for sure we miss them
It’s always good to have friends like Tom & Jerry. 😉
Always have a tom next to you!
Wasn't that a cartoon???
@@DENVEROUTDOORMAN Still is. But Jerry’s ride is called Tom, so… 🤩
@@NextMeridianExpedition for sure!
Tom has a golden heart. Friends this good are hard to come by.
A rare gem, we will preciously keep it 😍
Amazing adventure with Tom & Jerry 👏👏👏
The best duo !
The Bad Lands. Love the name.
Us too! We met someone on the road and found ourselves asking “are badlands good?” Before cracking up laughing
Tom is a awesome guy!! What a great friend 😃😃
the best !!!
Three lovely friends traveling.
yes !!! the best team
Your content is so much fun and entertaining to watch! Even when adversity hits, you make the best of it. A lesson for us all! You couldn’t have found a nicer person than Tom to help (and share) in part of your journey. Thanks for another awesome half-hour break in my day. Can’t wait for the next!
Thank you very much for this super nice feedback it brings us smiles ! All the best!
Enjoyable moment with Jerry. Even if your not with your home sweet car. Sardines sleep style hahah😂😂😂
Ouiii! It was fun for a while
Instead of removing the sun visors should just add Velcro or a hook to keep them up when not in use. Good to see Tom again. Wonderful journey, loved all the scenery and the animals. Funny how you all squeezed into the car for sleep.
Oooh interesting! We ll share that idea with Tom! Thanks a lot
thank-you from YUKON, you all rock... Tom saved the day..
Thank you too! Yes Tom is the best
This was the most funnest video 🤠🤠🥳🥳. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. If we still had our farm here in Colorado, I would have invited you guys to stay. Stay safe, and keep laughing 💖💗.
Happy you found it entertaining! It was a fun time too! All the best Lupita!
Thanks
Congratulations on another adventure and a big win, guys!
Yes!!! It was a superb week a bit camping mode but totally worth it!
Frozen lake bocce ball! Brilliant!
Soooo much fun! Highly recommended winter activity.
Yahooooooooo! Problems sorted! You three are such good travelers and well grounded people! You have: patience, flexibility, determination, spirit of fun, creativity, openness, ability to connect with others, and a mighty big sense of adventure! ❤️ You made very mighty tasty lemonade from those lemons you found in Jackson! Well done!!! Best of luck moving forward! Utah is spectacular!
Hahahah we love the lemonade metaphor! Thank you so much for those kind and motivating words! All the best!
thank you albatros expedition for sharing your adventures ! it is interesting and inspiring!
Thank you Miriam! We are glad you liked it
You have good times. A rare find to have Tom & Jerry as friends.
Indeed, precious friendship!
Hysterical!!! Nutella on Peanut Butter bread. LOL
Hahahahahaha still overwhelmed by this choice of snack
Glad you guys are back on the road .And looking forward to new adventures.
Thank you Dave!
Some times its cool to take some time insted od waiting. 😉
Cheers to all of you. 🍷&🍺
Yes ! Indeed !
Love you, Matilde, Nick, and Tom! Your music on this one really rocks! I have found people from all around the world through their adventures and stories on You Tube. Your adventures have become one of my favourites. Glad you were able to get Albatross repaired without too much trouble. Thanks to a golden friend like Tom (and his faithful sidekick, Jerry). The best to you all on each of your future adventures.
Yes! That makes us super happy! Thank a lot for those motivating words. Yes the Albatross is back on the road and it feels great!
I always follow ur adventure, yeheey, finaly albatross back on wheels again. Enjoy😂❤🙏
Thank you! Yes we feel so happy back with our car
WOW I am glad they know exactly what was happening to your truck! What a capable mechanic! And glad your truck is fixed! Thanks for the video! Once again Tom is a legend!
Tom always a legend! Yea we were lucky to get to find someone over there who could help
The middle of nowhere, Wyoming, is literally my favourite place on Earth. I've always heard the saying as "sailor's delight!"
They have a lot of sheep in New Zealand maybe that s why they say shepherd ? Hahaha
Finally, your Landy parts arrive back to hit the road. And Jerry is so nice man.
Good for you all.
Yes! Back on the road side by side with Tom and Jerry!
Awesome! There's a lot of cool Parks in UT. Zions, Dead Horse, Bryce, Canyon Land, Arches, Horseshoe, and Monument Valley. Luvs from Salt Lake City, UT. ♥️ Safe travels! 😊
We are on it!
@@NextMeridianExpedition Can't wait to check out the next episode. Woo-hoo! 😁

THANKYOU FOR SHARING YOUR TIME WITH JERRY. WHAT A COOL GUY. 👍
Agreed! The coolest!
Yay!!! I love seeing you guys and also with Tom.
Always so much fun with Tom !
Awesome week, thanks for sharing it w us. My favorite vid so far!
Congrats on gettin Alba back wholesome.
Tom is a champ!
Happy trails to you all🤙🏾
Oooh! We love that it is your favorite one! Thanks a lot!
Congratulations about being back on the road. Y'alls Land Rover defender albatross is so awesome. Good luck on your journey.
Thank you Christopher! Back in our wheels we feel so much more complete !
Tom, the Disco 2 sun visors have a spring action that snaps them upwards so they never sag. If the holes for the fittings are the same it’s an easy fix. They’re not necessary for you it seems because you are tall. Lol. Thanks for the fun trip vid guys and gal. 👍🏻🙏🦘
Thank you Grahame! Shared with Tom! Haha
You are all doing it right. Seeing all the special places. The badlands, Colorado rockies ect. Very good! Fun video!
well ive said it before and il say it again old defender very good most reliable new defender ok does a job reliability umm not so and tom your a gent and the additional adventure in the trusty noisy jerry was just brilliant
Fun video. How generous of Tom to take you along. It must have been really nice for him too to have someone else driving for a bit, especially so he could cover some ground on his bike. And I really like your music choices for this video!
We love that you love the music! We have pretty nice tunes for the rest of the USA trip! Hope you ll like them too. Yes Tom was the best but somehow as you say he also enjoyed the side adventure.
Who knew being broke down could be so much fun!!! A pleasure, as always, watching your adventure. You'll luv Utah, and hopefully you stop in Flagstaff on your way south. Safe journeys!
Exactly! Always spin things to the positive! Always!
Great fun following your adventures, Would be great to hear and see how Tom has Jerry set up.
Hey! In one of our video we showed his set up a bit more. I think it was the one with them thumbnail “Alaska Ready?”
Great adventure with Tom and Jerry ... glad to see you guys back with Albatross ... !
Had to do a little work on my own Hummer this last week my 4x4 transfer case went offline and I was afraid I would need to replace the transfer case ... plus I need the Hummer to get over the Sierra Nevada's for Thanksgiving .... luckily it turned out to simply be the encoder motor on the transfer case burned out ... so a new encoder motor was all that was needed ... much much cheaper than a whole new transfer case ... 😁
Indeed! Glad it worked out!
Epic times. Tom is pretty awesome.
He is the best!
Awesome! great to see Albatross running again. Tom is a super nice guy! Safe Journey!
Thank you so much! Yes Tom is a gem of a friend
Great job
This episode was so heartwarming, absolutely loved it! Wishing you guys & Tom all the best of luck for the rest of your travels!

See you next vidéo Flora! Thanks for the kind words!
Great video.
Thank you Nancy!
Awesome episode with amazing adventures and sound is great! Thank you!
Thank you! It was a lot of fun indeed !
Just think of it this way: if your Albo had not broken down, you wouldn't have had this amazing adventure together as a team! Things always happen for a reason ☺
Exactly! We would not have wanted it any other way!
Yeah...the hot springs again! I love this adventure with Tom and Jerry...Tom is such an easy going guy and an all around good friend you both have made for life. I would love for you to interview Tom and do a compare and contrast with him about his trip to Tuktoyaktuk. That is if you all are still traveling together. I really want to go that way rather than to Prudhoe but would love to hear what you all have to say. So glad you got Albie back...I wish you many miles. Stay strong and true Albatross! Enjoyed your trip to South Dakota...it was on my plans this summer but it just got too hot. Keep on defending🤪
Ooooh that would have been interesting but it won’t be the easiest. Don’t hesitate to contact him on Instagram I m sure he would gladly respond. @touring_tom.
Such a great video!
Have fun!
Thank you Mark! We will!
Your attitudes are amazing. So uplifting. I spent many years in Colorado and loved every one of them. It's a beautiful state. Cheers
Yes we learn a lot ok the road. First thing was to never let things like that get to us! Thank you for your message 🙏🏻
Nice to see Tom aguín 😊How Fun the three of you will have!! 👋😍
Yes it s nice to have Tom on the videos the past 3 episodes 😍
I thought it was a good decision that you shared heat inside Jerry instead of suffering needlessly in the cold tent. You three make a good team.
Yes brrrr … so cold!
It was a wonderful detour, great music and great views.
Thank you Glenn!
If you want to get really warm. Head to Florida and the Keys, Key west. Very warm and tropical, great beaches with turquoise waters, white sands and palm trees. The Everglades is special. Florida is a fun state, crystal clear springs, beautiful wildlife, a lot to see and do. 🌞🌴🌞🌴🌞🌴🌞🌴
We wish… but it is such a long way out for us. One day we will go it is definitely on our travel list
Nope to hot and humid...too many hurricanes and gators

Great video - so much fun to watch!
Good idea to team up with Tom, he's got a great Defender. Love the way he has Jerry configured - very practical.
I'm sure it was a bit cold and uncomfortable weather wise but you know what they say: No such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes!
Which brings us to the beanies (by the way, beanies are called "toques" in Canada);
1. Worn to keep head warm
2. To hide "it's too cold to wash hair weather"
3. It's the law in Wyoming past September..? 😏
Glad you have Albo back and hope there is no further trouble engine wise!
Hahaha we always say that! But I think our tolerance to cold just diminished as days past and our heater stopped working.
Jerry is so well done! We love it too!
Hahahaha I love option 3 and think that should be somewhere in the law. Definitly option 2 in our case. It was embarrassing 🙈…
Thanks again for taking the time to comment!
So glad to see you back on the road with your Owen rig . But what a great time you all had traveling with Tom during your down time .made for a great set of videos with friends . Cheers from Steve Stott in Sutherlin Oregon U.S.A. :) :) . :) .🍻👍🏼
Yes it was just a good vibe all the way through. But we re happy back in albo!
Rocky Mt national park is awesome! The drive up there is so beautiful
Yes!!! So special, we were really in awe!
Too bad Trail Ridge Road was closed
Nice trip together
Yes really fun!
I think I heard a little reggae in the background. Now i'm really liking your channel. Enjoy you expedition.
Hahaha yaaaaas! We have a raeggae playlist ready for chill evenings!
So glad you got Albatross repaired. Jackson is a really nice town so I am sorry you had a bad experience there. Your music with the video is so good! Safe travels.
We found Jackson really cool it is true. I think at this point of the time we were just frozen to the bone and only feeling Hole part of Jackson hole hahahah. But the week before exploring grand Teton from there was a dream!
We love that you love the music! It s our favorit thing to pick it!
The fun continues even without albo, that was a wonderful week spent with Tom @ Jerry, hope this time albo is in perfect condition for the long journey ahead👌🙌🙌🙌🙌🇵🇭
We are back on the road for real! We re doing good so far so we should be all fixed! Thank you!
Beanies for dirty hair, and Landy noise...🤔🤔🤔
This was an incredible nice video, your best this far..so full of fun...
What a bonus to meet someone like Tom on the road (must be that ZA sticker on his Landy that's rubbing off on you guys
🇿🇦 😂 🇿🇦 )
One thing that bothered me...
Those feet in the socks at each others noses, oh goodness me...
The three musketeers brushing teeth, the card game, the food, cycling, so so nice... I was laughing out loud all alone in my shack watching you guys enjoying life...
It's going to be very quiet for Tom and Jerry from now on 😔😔
Thanks, you young ones, that was nice...
Thank you so much Alwyn! Such a nice comment to read makes us smile a lot!
Hahaha we had a rule: only clean socks for such set up!
All the best!
" YOU ARE GOING TO MISS TOM" when you eventually go your own ways. I think we are all going to miss TOM, he has become part of the family.😢
That is so true. It is going to be heartbreaking. But we know deep down we will see each other again
Tom rocks.
you guys are amazing ❤
Thank you! You too for taking the time to comment!
Awesome video! Your filming skills (and sound) are getting better! Parcontre trop de pub! Keep on driving!
Thank you! Oh no… sorry for the ads
Admiration to the three of you for seeming to get along as well as it appears you do. Interested to learn how well the diagnosis of Albatross addresses the fault. I dread ever being in a situation where I am waiting for my vehicle to be returned to fully operational.
It was great fun! We really gained a friend in this experience.
So nothing dramatic on the engine because we stopped in time. We heard other travelers lost entire engine because they did not notice a heavy leak. It is hard to say what went wrong. We replaced the injector seals and the rocker cover and now the Def works like a charm and we are back to no leak at all just like before this unfortunate event. The whole thing ended up being super easy to fix it was just identifying the issue and ordering the parts that took time and a bit of support.
Great video, good how you make the best of your situation. Love your Chanel.
Thank you Frances!!!
We really need a detailed tour on Jerry and the amazing transformation to full 3 person bed setup! :)
We have done a short tour of his car in our video preparation for Alaska! But the bed is definitely no done for three ! But honestly it worked really fine and comfy in the end
@@NextMeridianExpedition Oh yes, i missed that video. Am watching it now. I love how the sofa could sit 3 and able to transformed into bed for 2 or 3 in such a space.
You said Colorado is your favorite state. Wait till you see Utah and Arizona. Many great states!! ♥️♥️♥️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Nope Colorado the best
@@DENVEROUTDOORMAN False!
LOL, you guys took a road trip in the same path I took back in June, except I went in the opposite direction
Great trip !!!
Good news yeahhhhh! The repair was expensive?
Yaaaaas! It was not cheap but not crazy. Eventually the garage did not have anything complicated to do so it did not take much time once the parts were there.
Should come back to Colorado and catch what you missed
We wish … but we have a visa time challenge. There is so much more we wanted to visit.
Oh…. You need to show us the microphone!!!! If you get gear, show, show, SHOW!! Hahaha
Hahahaha but this time is just a simple gopro case with a mic integrated… i think it is the gopro case itself
Yeah you made it my home state Colorado! Glad you liked it! The mountains are amazing! You will love Utahs parks. They are beautiful!
Colorado = 🤩🤩🤩 Utah is pretty special too! Exploring Rn
@@NextMeridianExpedition There are collections of hoodoos a short drive south of Utah 12 near Escalante, and immediately off US 89 southeast of Kenab, and Bryce Canyon has wonderful formations as well. Enjoy wherever you travel!
The beanies keep the brains in
Exactly! Hahaha and dirty hair hidden
I went to the Badlands. There is away you can get in without a pass. I usually have annual national pass, $80
We have the pass too so that is how we entered. But I think we actually exited on a road where there was no check! So that might be that
Thank you for your beautiful images.
Tom is a real friend !
I suppose I'm not the only LR driver who would like to get some more technical information of the problem your engine had. What went wrong? Do you know the cause? As far as I remember, your car doesn't have too much mileage yet (much less than 200 000 km?).
Hello! Thank you for your comment.
We are not sure of the exact issue but we changed the injector seals and the rocker cover that had a missing valve and we ve had no leaking issue since then. So we assume the problem was coming from one of those two.
Saw in comments that someone was asking if it wasn't better to buy a vehicle here instead of shipping one from Europe. I think what would be great is to be able to connect with someone in Europe who has an overland vehicle and wants to overland in America and trade vehicles with them just for the trip. That way both parties could save shipping cost and when you were done with the trip just fly home and you would have your own vehicle back.
That would be cool, instead of home exchange / car exchange !
@@NextMeridianExpedition
You guys could create an app that everyone could use to do the car exchange and make some money 🤗
In Matador there was CNC Machine "HAAS" - Interesting.....
Knowing what you know now, and observing that Land Rovers are not particularly common in the western hemisphere, would you recommend to other Europeans that they ship one over to N America vs buying a vehicle here?
Interesting question. I imagine it depends of your build if you have already one or not and the investment it would be to get something similar in North America.
In our specific case, we were supposed to head straight from Europe to Central Asia but the war in Ukraine changed our plans. We will get there but later on. So the choice of car was made to have our home with us across all continents. It did not make sense to buy in North America.
Eventually the only challenge is to wait for parts but parts get to North America pretty easily. It would surely be easier to have another vehicle if the point is to only do North America and one does not have a véhicule already built… it would also depend for how long the trip is. Cause if you want a comfortable build across seasons for several months you might not find it for cheap on the market up here….
So many variables… hahaha we met mostly people who shipped their vehicles in North America so far.
Check out Jewel Cave National Monument, Mount Rushmore Cave, Wonder Caves, and Wind Cave National Park.
Wind cave was a dream! We did not see all the others but love the region around wind cave
Im guessing you wear your beanies because you cant wash your hair often. The funniest part of this video was the bit about the sun visors. Hilarious!
Yep … touché…
Hahaha we laughed so much that time!
Does Tom have a TH-cam channel where we can check out his Landy and adventures
We wish! No he spends too much time on his bicycle to have time editing videos 😉 you can find him on Instagram @touring_tom
Please let me know if you come to Florida, guys; I'm Happy to host or show you around; we are in Tampa Bay - the Safety Harbor area, but I know all the great spots of the state!
We would loooooove to. But that will be on another trip outside this world tour … it was a bit far from our main route and our visa ends. But thanks a million for this generous invitation!! 😍
Hey guys, since you are driving a LR Defender down South to Ushuaia, did you guys check on the availability of service network for it once you go down South of US ?
We are doing the PAH trip starting in Feb/March 2023 for 2+ years and one of the main reasons I avoided LR is , it is a “ problem child” with lot of reliability issues 😀 Didn’t feel like stopping by at the mechanics every few hundred miles lol LRs are notorious for breaking down and parts availability is not easy in certain parts of the world and you are stuck for weeks till the parts arrive.
We snagged a 2021 LC 200 Heritage Edition late last year ( last LC for the American market at least for a while unless you get the LX600 ) and did a overland build and my main reason is reliability. We won’t be living out of it so not much living setup except a rooftop tent installed for occasional camping.
Wondering if you guys checked on serviceablity of LR Defender especially in Central America. Big cities in South America might have service centers but not as ubiquitous as Toyota which has presence everywhere.
Hopefully your LR stays up and running because service might be rare in small towns in Central and South America and LRs are known for breaking down.
The informal slogan for Land Rover is “ Land Rover. Making mechanics out of owners since 1948” lol
Ya... I wouldn't do it in anything else but a Toyota.
@@dwh7651 Well, others like Nissan or Jeep can pull it through with an occasional problem and available parts all the way but the LR ranks dead last in reliability so wondered how suited it’s for a long overland trip. They have already broken down once or twice but it’s in the US so parts and service are accessible. What say Guatemala or Honduras or Bolivia or some place like that in a small town?
I wondered if N&M had it planned out for those exigencies since we’ll be starting out for this trip in 4 months.
Hey Sam! Sorry for the delayed answer. We did consider other car brands. Nick grew up in Africa and I worked a lot there where we always had Toyotas for work. We knew the limited availability of parts etc etc… in one of our video we actually discuss the car choice. This decision was motivated by two main elements : set up opportunities (especially the installation of a pop up roof) and financial (the Toyota model we were interested in is extremely expensive in Europe ( needs to be imported and adapted to match pollution regulations). Eventually we have travelled for two years with our defender with really no problem. Since the world tour it is the first time we are really stopped and we have driven 60k km with it. The parts not being as easily available is an issue but is not too dramatic. Companies ship internationally and that is part of the trip we are flexible. As for when we will be in central and South America: might arrive slower but life is also cheaper so things balance out. It is going to vary from region to region there is no doubt of that.
We find the eternal comments on the lack of reliability of the defender funny. We don’t feel that we suffer from that choice of vehicle (as mentioned we know it is simpler maybe with a toyota in some situations). The car has actually held pretty well for 60k.
And as you say we love learning mechanics. We had very few mechanical skills and we re learning so much. We like that it is so hands on.
Voila! A bit of a long essay but people get a bit judgy over just a choice of car brand. The bottom line for us is that we made the choice based on very practical considerations related to our budget and needs for this world tour knowing the challenges and so far we do not regret it. And if we have a problem in a remote place that has never seen a defender before… that will make for a great story!
@@NextMeridianExpedition Haven’t watched your car choices video.
The popular vehicle in Africa is the 70 series Landcruiser and especially the 79 Troopy. But like you said, for the longest time it wasn’t legal for sale both in Europe and North America because of emissions but the 2022 70 series is compliant and it’s been made to be Euro-4 compliant .
But the options in the US other than the 70 series are the 80 and 100 series, both were sold in North American and I myself had a 100 series in the Lexus version which I regret trading in. So, 70 series is not the only option.
Well, it’s good that you made your choice on your personal needs and went with the LR. Not my choice of vehicle personally and I can’t work on cars but if you are hands-on mechanics, that is one step better than me lol I just went with the easy option of spending more money on a reliable vehicle 😀
I was curious if you had weighed the pros and cons but I suppose you have. I asked the question since you had broken down a couple of times already. But hopefully it will stay up.
I have friends who have LRs and they have a love hate relationship with their Land Rovers and they love driving it when it runs but not so much when they break down and lands them an expensive garage bill lol
It is actually “Red sky at night sailors delight red sky in the morning sailors take warning”
I guess shepherd was for the place far from the ocean ;)
Were those bits of ice Obut Dog?
Are the beanies to cover dirty hair? Haha!!
…. Yeessss … that was almost embarrassing
It’s because you have all not showered! That’s why you are all wearing your beanies!
Yeeeessss so embarrassed hahahaa
What is Tom's channel?
We wish he had one! But he spends too much time on his bicycle to have time editing videos 😉 you can find him on Instagram @touring_tom
Glad Albatross is back for the journey, just wondering where did you meet Tom? An Angel to the rescue but he definitely benefited from your time, company and friendship aswell🚌🚴♂️💖
We met him randomly on Facebook. We were going to Alaska and shared our route on Facebook. He said he was doing the same route up until Yukon and we decided to team up!
Just sitting watching the videos, working out what year Jerry is, I'm thinking 95 or 96? You can't beat a 300tdi for overlanding, they can handle just about anything the world can throw at them! Have you said what is wrong with Albatros? As seems like you've got oil where oil shouldn't be.
Red sky at night, Shepard's delight, Red ske in the morning, Shepard's warning! It basically translates to red skes mean good weather for the next day if in evening, but poor weather is comming if in the morning. Best weather forcast is, in reality, looking out the window. 🙂
Not far! 98! A beast ☺️
We are not entirely sure of the final diagnostic but we replaced the injector seals and the rocker cover which had a little valve missing. And now no more leak at all. So we imagine that was indeed the issue …
@@NextMeridianExpedition I can't see injector seals causing the issue, they will however cause poor running, so likely the missing valve, but good that it is fixed. My little baby is a '97, in the midst of a total rebuild as the chassis was never cleaned by it's first owners (20 years).
Does Tom and Jerry have their own TH-cam channel ?
We wish! But no he spends too much time on his bicycle to have time editing videos 😉 you can find him on Instagram @touring_tom
Nutella, Peanut butter and banana is incredible!! Just saying!!
Also. I've learned never play cards with Women! They always win!! My Grandma and Mom always killed me at card games.... 😆
Hahahahaha tom has an ally!
I ve tried giving them chances to catch up but … well…
I wear a hat as its easier than controlling my hair - maybe you do too :)
Hahaha we do that also sometimes - life in the road …
But this time our hair was so dirty it would have been an embarrassment removing the hat Ahahah
Just in time fix weather change is coming would not want to camp in Wyoming winter
Yep… so beautiful but sooooo cold in the car
