I'm still a strong believer that Spyderco should have a custom build area that customers can access to buy their blade of choice and then go through the website and create their own custom scales and clips .
Absolutely not. That's the type of stuff you see fashion brands do. It's a horrible idea. It makes the brand feel cheap. I don't like that Benchmade does it and I definitely don't want Spyderco to do it.
@ So I’ve got one of the original black on black PM 2’s new in the box. I wonder if that is of interest to any collectors. I don’t even remember what steel was used. I think it’s S 30 V.
It wasn't a difficult swap for me, what you need from a donor knife or as parts is liners a pb washer and the pivot barrel (the LW version is squared at one end) easier of youre just swapping the blade onto an existing g10 para 3 instead of building one a la carte but it can definitely be done🍻
I just ordered the G-10 version this morning; this will be my first Para. MidwayUSA has them for $215 and then there was some other sitewide promotion/discount on top of that. I got it for $205 total (that includes taxes + free shipping)
After not ever warming up to the PM2, I went ahead and risked a para3 and love it. This video made me realize that I need another. I haven’t heard big brown bear mentioned in a while. 👍🏻
I have one of BBBs customs in 15v. My knife is in the thread between Shawn and Sal talking about heat treats. It's LASER thin and holds an edge forever.
My wife bought me the para3 in 15v lw for Christmas, I then got some Awt aluminum scales it makes it that much better, and it's still pretty light. I don't even know it's in my pocket
I like the LW para3 better than the G10 version. This sprint is really great. I like the brown but would not mind another color. Yea I liked this type of video. You have some moves at 10x speed!😊😊
I've got the same scales on my Para 2 but green. I love Rockwell Design stuff. I also got the backspacer with a built-in laynard tube. I did the RGT machined clip. I also got the lightweight 15v that im about to mod. Lol You got great tastes. Lol
I worked many years farming with my father, and I never used anything my Camulus Boy Scout knife, Swiss Army knife, or my simple Buck 110. I love watching these videos, but could never justify purchasing a knife that is over $50 or $60. I have a $15 half serrated half straight blade. All I need. Great video though
@@cintageinteresting...I never said that it was, I quoted spyderco directly that with Shawn Houstons special heat treat protocols that it was the highest wear resistance cold work steel (wear resistance and edge retention are not the same thing)
You did good. I quit taking apart spyderco and benchmade though because there's no guarantee everything on those goes back together right. A screw could strip or the threads may not allign with new scales, etc. My easiest mod ever was og titanium scales on my ad20, I can't say whether due to the precision work of which. I will say that all of the new pins fit snug and the blade centered itself in the new scales. I told og that if that was them they need to make it more of a selling point.
I've seen a lot of bad reviews of the lightweight with regards to how that has one washer in the centering has issues in the action feels different. Do you notice that with yours as it came with the frn? Does it get any better or worse swapping scales? Ty
I showed blade centering on the LW in the video was good..and also after I did the blade swap it was still good..blade centering is a common issue on the LW but not one that's a default on all of them..also the primary point of getting it was to put the 15v blade on my custom para 3 scales and it worked without issue
Timimg of this video is wild. I also got the lw para 3 in 15v as my first spydie and couldnt have been more dissapointed. Feels cheap and not enjoyable to use hold etc. Love the blade. Kpet thinking why cant i use any para 3 replacement scales. Aware ill need parts but blades seemed the same dimensions. Just want this to feel good in the hands. To me this does not
My recommendation is that unless there is a set of aftermarket scales that were meant for the regular para 3 that you wanted check out after market scale options meant for the Para 3 LW..less modification via donor parts needed.. Applied Weapons Tech has some great options for direct fit para 3 LW scales that will do you just fine...otherwise to make para 3 scales work you will need a para 3 pivot, liners, and an extra phosphor bronze washer from a donor knife or as parts
Do not buy the Titech scales for this knife from Heinnie Haynes. Poor tolerances - pivot did not fit. Maybe you will get lucky but why take the chance.
Nice swap out. Now for that 15V, factory edge is crap. 13 degree angle, fixed angle, bonded diamond stones, work to a 1 micron stone finally and then strop on smooth leather with 1 micron diamond paste of your choice. A Manix done that way I gave to my son, a fireman and now in retirement a boat repair guy, has lasted with just the first sharpening for almost 2 years. He beats a knife like I do. Once you think that the 15V is the end all be all, pop for a Sage in Rex 121. I just got mine and the factory edge was horrible like always. I put the 13 degree edge on it as above and it is just as sharp as the 15V but will out wear it by 25% more.
Spyderco has stated that LW blades are not interchangeable with the regular versions(some are some arent)..so this is not "clickbait" but if you didn't like the content the answer is easy, just don't watch😉🍻
My question is, were there any lock-up issues (blade play, lock rock) after the swap? I've got a magnacut para3 lw that has bad lock stick. I would love to swap it into a regular para 3 frame if I can.
That's a great question..the best way for me to answer it is that there weren't any issues that I couldn't fix myself by tuning the hardware correctly, with spyderco knives specifically because the pivot barrel and screws are free floating and because both sides have body screws that have to be tightened and adjusted there is a world of ways you could have issues like blade centering and blade play(lock rock is not something I've experienced after modding any of my spydercos including this one though)...I only truly see it as an "issue" if it's not something that can be fixed by finding the balance in tuning (the loosening/tightening of hardware sometimes to very small degrees or in a specific order)
I'm still a strong believer that Spyderco should have a custom build area that customers can access to buy their blade of choice and then go through the website and create their own custom scales and clips .
Oh just like benchmade does😊 love all the bm hate!! Leaves em all for me
@@mrmouse-ol9pw You can have all the BMs 💩💩💩you like! After they run through you, ya won’t have any 💰💰💰left. 😂
I would order one.

This is America, you can do anything you want. Well if you have the knowledge, the skill, the parts and the tools. You are an inspiration Roll.
Thanks TopDog! You know my specialty..getting lost down the rabbit hole 🍻😂
You know darn well you will end up replacing the scales on the S45 knife too...... it's just what we do. Great video and beautiful knife
Yep , they’re all the same pretty much , even the steels . If it’s a good steel it’s good 👍
After not ever warming up to the PM2, I went ahead and risked a para3 and love it. This video made me realize that I need another
@TucoDog-ho6fw I'm the same way, the PM2 was uncomfortable to me but strangely the Para3 isnt.
@ So I’ve got one of the original black on black PM 2’s new in the box. I wonder if that is of interest to any collectors. I don’t even remember what steel was used. I think it’s S 30 V.
Yup. I've got some liners and hardware coming for my 15v lw to do a transplant with. We'll see...

Awt also sells Spyderco lightweight scales in aluminum and it comes with a washer. If you want a 15v and s45vn with better scales on both
Yes 100%
Your doing good work Roll.keep it up

You built a beauty , love the violet scales & 15v !
I didn’t wait, because I knew that I would change my original scales to custom ones.
I’ve been waiting for quite a while and I will have to wait some more. It seems that Spyderco sends out to international vendors whenever they want.

You can do this with the manix 2 also you can swap the lightweight blade with the g10 and vice versa
I did that with my Stormtrooper Rex-45 Manix-2, put it in some titanium pants...works great 👍
I swapped my BBB blade straight into a regular frame with AWT skinny scales. Just works better and more confidence inspiring while cutting.
Just bought G10 Version on Wednesday! Supposed to be in tomorrow!! I just had to have those full liners

Thanks for video, didnt know you could do swap 🤔👍
15v is pretty crazy
Yeah I'm stoked to see just how long that factory edge will last😂
Big brown bear, knows his stuff. Would love that steel.. 🎉🎉😅 might have to het one. Cgeers didnt realise they were that price.
I just bought the g10 version! Can’t wait!
I learned something today!
About time someone says para 3. Not paramilitary 3.
If you think 15V is the pinnacle of edge retention, try Rex-121.

Well done!! Envious..
Spyderco has the cheapest boxes of all time. For $210 this is totally unacceptable.
My light weight 15v para has 2 washers
Interesting..mine didnt
Mine also.
Brilliant economic swap.
At 150$...wonder why they are not selling out.

Bro, I know it feels cheap. But we buy it for the steel and then change the scale! ✌️😅
I have both the PM 2 and PM3 in S45VN G10 I really don't care for plastic scales this is why I also don't purchase Benchmade

My rex 121 came very dull.
But my 15v LW para 3 was extreme. Just to fingers on it and it cuts thru paper towels with no force.
Spyderco doesn't say you can't do this, you can do anything with your knife you want.
Clickbaiting is a sure way to get people away from your channel.

Guys in the Spyderco groups have been doing this forever
