I'll always appreciate a knife that leans into more of the Japanese tanto aesthetic. I know technically this one is more of a hybrid, but the simple beauty of the Japanese tanto is exquisite (and I was recently watching clips from Shogun so.. yeah, never know when you'll need a tanto take care of business in such a way as to maintain your honor and the honor of your liege lord).
I got the fat carbon version and the fit and finish is very premium. It’s a gorgeous knife. My only complaint is I have to concentrate on the deployment or it will fail. I will take it apart, clean and lube which will hopefully help a little.
Watch the lockbar...its what causes the deployment fail (at least what I have observed) any pressure on that lockbar and the action becomes touchy, figured it out when I switched it to my left hand and the action immediately became a rocket ship 😂...makes me wonder if a carbon fiber overlay on the lockside would be an elite move for NMB on this one
By the way, you weren't the first to unveil this knife 9n TH-cam. Backwood's, I believe, was the first. She did a short on this very special knife that I watched a week ago. She showed the knife disassembled, which is all it took for me. Started thinking about which scales I preferred and whether or not they can do a Chrome/ Polished Damascus blade now that wood be amazing.
I have an inexpensive Smith & Wesson knife from the early 2000’s that has this same function essentially (Branded with the Extraction & Evasion Series.) It is a an aluminum scale(?) monstrosity. But it is a compound ground knife with a hollow ground blade and a flat ground serrated tip.Almost like a folding Tom Brown Tracker design. It is an assisted opening flipper with thumb studs and the flipper tab is not part of the blade stock. You can push the flipper flat upon deploying the blade. The flipper is automatically returned to the standard position when the blade is closed just like this. I have wondered about this since the Chavez knife that featured it first made waves within the Knifetuber EDC channels a couple years ago. I just never remember to ask about it. Since it sits in a utility drawer in the garage. But this video reminded me to ask. Did the designer invent this on the inexpensive S&W knife years ago? Or did they refine it and give it a name for use on the more premium knives of today? Thanks for any info anyone can provide.
Why do people mess up a good design by putting words on it. Ok knives probably knock it off soon. Their 229 rendition is a perfect copy for $70. Took a couple weeks. I bought it to compare with my real copy. If they knocking off a knife that's already made in China I'm not feeling too bad. I got their ad 20.5 in titanium next. Its perfect copy too. Just don't have the right steels. 99% people dont need much more than 8cr or 440
Definitely some great user knives out there even at 50 and under for those who buy knives only to use abuse and replace..I don't support clones or knockoffs though, even if it's not an American design theft is theft and integrity is what you do when no one is watching
@aldee666 On a small batch release it's not surprising to me there isn't a left handed version that also has the additional cost of having to license the kickstop from Lee williams, definitely a bummer for the lefties out there though
I love the Japanese styling and those grinds are sick. The price is amazing.
Used your discount code! Thanks man! This’ll be my first time trying out a kick stop

Love that show, I'm also a big fan of Japanese samurai history

Thanks for the video! I ordered the holey chop kickstop over the past weekend.
Never have I wished I had knife money more than now
They may do a second run, might be worth saving up for if you want one and can't get in on the initial run🍻
North Mountain Knives are blowing up!!!
Not a tanto fan generally but this is sweet and killer price. 👍

You're right! Melissa beat me to the punch with a short...I'll just have to settle with "first full length video" 😂🍻

Wish it came with at least a Drop point or wharnie Blade. Looks nice i like the scales the Best.
Yeah north mountain has a bit of a traditional Japanese design style, wouldn't mind a straightback or a wharncliffe either though
Wish the grid was on both scales
hell ya 200 all day my dude
Out of curiosity… can anyone tell me the patent number on the Lee Williams Kickstop? Cuz I can’t find one.
According to Google US20100218383A1
Bugga, they don’t ship internationally. I want one. 😢
Yes Sir
Too bad it only comes in a tanto.
I love a good compound ground tanto!
@Rollshambo yeah, me too, but you don't need a tanto to get it. 🤷🏽♂️
@Rollshambo I just bought the Tuya Wrath V2 with a compound grind, and it isn't a tanto.
@@jbjohnson8609good for you.

No lefty love for a boring knife design.👎
