The VIN E, XR4i and XR4Ti, were the four post federalized version of the Sierras. Yes they had additional strengthening from ford on the chassis’s. These are much harder to find.

Appreciate it whilst we still can is the only way forward, unless it’s classic car status prity soon a lot of older car are going to be parked up until they get that status.
Yb is only worth the money if its going into an original yb car and its old enough or rare enough it would damage its value not to have one, in this case, good car built how the guy wanted so what's the problem? 550 bhp easier and cheaper than a yb, no doubt safer too.
@ yeah maybe your right pal, easy unpredictable skids with non matching tyres across your drive axle so one side unpredictably lets go before the other and tries to out you into a wall every time you drive it
I believe the uk xr4is did have the shell modifications. I seem to remember something about these shells not being allowed for the short oval lightning rod formula because of it. Someone may be able to confirm that tho
American fan here, when got license in 95 a looked at few these. For me then still too expensive but i really liked them and knew what they were. Never see them here anymore
You are just getting smarter & smarter as the channel streams by. Light back end. BTCC wet race 4th sideways on straights. I still prefer Mk 3 Cortinas.
So many ridiculous comments in here from guys that think they know their Fords, but don’t. Put any motor in it you want. Purists can stay in the cossie lane. The XR4Ti indeed has 909 plates welded to it. You can argue all you want but if you look at the 909 plates, they are welded to ALL Merkurs. I have pics of chassis plates to prove it. There is a Merkur sitting beside me about 20 feet away in my garage. I’ve had it since 1992 and I have heard every damn myth about these things. 175hp. Open diff. Soft yanked springs. Stiffened chassis. Abandoned by dealers and we have had to bodge Brit parts on to them for decades. Fun cars.
American car nut here. Big fan. The stupid ugly bumpers that ruined so many beautiful cars back in the day were called 5 mph bumpers and were for crash regulations. What's funny is we always change any car with them to euro spec because the cleaner fit and look. Love your content
Owned a Merkur XR4Ti here in Northern Ireland back in 2014. Actually bought it off Mr RS500 Paul Linfoot. I had a Sapphire Cosworth 2wd at the same time, and a friend had a Sierra XR4i. Big differences between them all. The Merkur was was ridiculously slow compared to the Sapphire Cosworth too. And i had the 170bhp manual version. (the automatics where 140bhp) They also came to with a 2.3L Lima Turbo from the Fox Body Mustang. NOT A Pinto engine.

I love it when the "cossie" lot have a meltdown. The YB is old hat, they need long studding and liners to make any real power. K swaps are even finding themselves into MK1 & MK2 Escorts because they are simply better than the YB. If you have a cossie, keep it YB powered, for everything else the world is your oyster!

Hé should’ve used a 5.0 mustang V8 , like the ones in Africa . I would still love to do that . Love the sierra shape and a V8 would be amazing in it . Or a Pinto with a huge turbo 😉😅
Nice car i kind of agree with avoiding the classic engine tax of a yb and i dont mind the k series its been done to death though i would want a ford 5 pot lump and a decent interiour if it was my car
If you've ever pulled away in a high powered rear wheel drive, you'll immediately notice the difference between this auto box & a manual box. It that smooth transition to the next gear that doesn't make the back kick out. He even has the clutch pedal there if he wants to drive it like that. I agree the YB is so common and done to death, bit of Japanese engineering goes a long way :)
That Merkur with a K24 swap is badass, even the owner's fit is badass as well :D
